  1. Can't wait until the full complete mod is out. One thing, whoever is doing your graphic designs (the DFDR logo, etc.) is excellent! They really capture the feel of desert warfare with the brown map in the background, pictures of Rommel and Monty, and so on. That's real professional work. I know that the actual mod is what you all have been working on, but I, like a lot of consumers, pay attention to packaging. And I just wanted to compliment you on your site graphics as well.
  2. Battle Cry ROCKS!!!! Too bad my 2 year old daughter isn't old enough yet I'll just have to work harder at turning her into a Gamer Girl......

  4. I don't have the movie version, but here is the original - I think its better than the film one, even if it is loaded with more obscenities. http://www.1918.com/phil/patton.shtml Actually, what I find most interesting about this speech is his comments about teamwork, and how everyone is valuable, from the frontline soldier to the truck drivers. Thought it fascinating in light of the Army's recent black beret controversy and their (in my eyes, stupid) "Army of One" advertising campaign.
  5. Always like reading 'bout the news (and I also see that the snow has melted , but here's a quibble - the link to Old Dog's site is missing the . after the www in www.olddogscmcentral.homestead.com/index.html, so the link doesn't work. Just a heads up.
  6. I just got back from seeing it also today, and it was excellent. I can see where all the people who've read "War of the Rats" or who are Stalingrad fanatics might nitpick, but as a whole it was really good. The love story wasn't overly schmaltzy, it fit well. I did feel that Ralph Fines and Ed Harris were underused as actors, and the nitpickers can have a field day with some of the historical aspects, but I think the greatest thing to keep in mind that its just a war story, not a historical documentary. And I for one am very excited about the recent trend of WWII movies. How long did we suffer through a drought of really good war movies? I hope the WWII trend of films keeps going, with more and more on the way, I'm hoping. Overall, its an excellent film if you don't go into it looking for a documentary. It is a good story. I just hope that its successful enought to convince Hollywood and other studios to make more. [This message has been edited by Grunt2001 (edited 03-18-2001).]
  7. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I had just got my copy of CM in the mail when it seemed all of the CM sites on the web went down. I was especially lost for scenarios. Great site, and I hope things go smoothly for you!
  8. 32. In the prime of life, so I'm told. Only wish I was a kid again so I could get some SLEEP!!!
  9. Hey, thanks for the reply. I wasn't being impatient, I was in mourning Here I'd gotten the greatest game in the world, and all the cool sites went kablooey in under a week. Glad to hear you're coming back online. Keep up the good work!
  10. I just got CM a few weeks ago, and during the time I was waiting, I spent my online time surfing thru many a CM site. Just as my game arrived in the mail, and I was able to experience the full game, three of the sites I was regularly visiting went down. Now Combat Mission HQ and Combat Missions seem to be coming back, but does anyone have any news as to Wild Bill's site? I was looking forward to downloading some good scenarios, but there doesn's seem to be a site with a whole lot anymore. Just asking...
  11. CM is a little too "grognard" for my wife, but she regularly kicks my butt in Risk and Settlers of Catan. I'm lucky to have married a gamer chick!
  12. (cross posted to another thread, but relevant) I actually saw an overwhelmingly positive review in KenzerCo's half-comic, half-game magazine "Knights of the Dinner Table". Being published by a bunch of real gamers (and not corporate flacks) who's opinion I trust, I downloaded the demo and ordered it immediately. So yes, there are probably a pile of us newbies here. Don't think of us as newbies, just think of us as...cannon fodder My only disappointment is that some of those great websites that I was surfing while anxiously wating for the game to arrive in the mail are now shut down (Wild Bill's, Combat Missions, etc.) I was looking forward to checking out a bunch of scenarios and mods.

  14. Newbie here, just bought CM and am loving it. I was wondering, is there any way to save a map from a scenario generated by Quick Battle and then saved during setup? I just got done playing a great randomized map battle, and I like the map so much that I'd like to save it and experiment. Can you somehow get the map out of the scenario?
  15. Congrats!!! I've already got a daughter, and another daughter due here in a few weeks, but by God they're going to learn how to wargame!
