Unfortunately, wargaming will always be a niche market, played by a small percentage of the general population. While we can certainly aspire to have every single person in that small percentage playing CMBO, it's too much to hope for sales approaching the more popular RTS or FPS games.

Panzerfausts (and gammon bombs, and demo charges, and rifle grenades) are all controlled by the Tac AI, and are pretty much out of the player's control. Generally, the squad with a panzerfaust available has to be at around half or less the range of the weapon (e.g., 50m for panzerfaust-100's), not suppressed, and they will fire. It seems that units with multiple panzerfausts are more trigger happy, and will sometimes even shoot one at enemy infantry.Originally posted by Muggles:As I sit here waiting for the full version to arrive in the mail I thought I might get some advice on taking out tanks w/infantry!
So far I've been fairly successful in taking out Sherman's with Panzershecks. I do this by grouping them together and when a sherman approaches moving them to the edge of a heavily wooded area, then engaging. Now this is fine and dandy but how do I use Panzerfausts? I know I have them but I don't think I've ever seen one fire... do I have to make them shoot them or do they do it on their own at close ranges?

heheheh. I've played both Mr. Boom and another variation involving a horde of 105mm Priests, a German battalion, and very little cover. I have to be honest though, when I saw all of the inf desparately trying to take cover in the single square of brush in the area, I felt so bad I had to surrender. No joke.Originally posted by Smiler:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by CMplayer:

But I think Mr. Boom is a great learning tool for those of us who originally thought that large caliber arty isn't worth the price due to the low ammo amounts. It changed my mind.</font>

It's a campaign game (CG) in that infamous "other game", Advanced Squad Leader (ASL). You know, maps, dice, counters, rules arguments, too many acronyms...Originally posted by Holien:Anyway not sure about the stuff mentioned "I'm playing the latest installment (Day II) of the full 8-game Pegasus Bridge CG."
What is that all about?
I'll make every effort to send a turn your way when I go home for lunch starting in about two hours. My atlas shows 8 hours difference between us, so the turn should get to you by about 10 p.m. your time (2 p.m. PST). If it doesn't arrive then, it means that I didn't have enough time during lunch, and it won't get to you until tomorrow morning.

Gents: Real Life intervened yesterday, so I wasn't able to do any turns yesterday evening. My turns will likely slow down to about one a day for the next week or so, and this Saturday is completely out - I'm playing the latest installment (Day II) of the full 8-game Pegasus Bridge CG.
I leave it to Holien to drop tantalizing clues about our game.
The game with Warren is tense, with an unpredictable ending at this point.
Regarding my game with Mr. Dickens, all I can say is: Section III, I feel your pain.

Wade, thanks for posting the pic.

There's no hurry to complete the games per se, but I suspect that the participants (including myself) are looking to fill our glasses with some fine wine as soon as possible.Originally posted by Treeburst155:There's no hurry on these games. The scenarios are large enough that giving orders takes some time. You'll be finished before CMBB comes out I'll bet. Just enjoy the fight. BTW, I will post the scores as each scenario is completed by all. Wild Bill's will be the first, I'm sure.
Fight On!!
Treeburst155 out.

Oooooo, that's hitting below the belt. Just for that I will show your pixelated soldiers no mercy!Originally posted by Holien:At least we have a regular source of electricity here.

Things are progressing on all three fronts. I could post paragraphs of "My X came under fire from somebody's Y in the Zth turn of scenario lambda, but I hope to counter with pi and e" - but what's the point?
On a different note, my games with The Capt and Wreck are progressing faster than my game with Holien solely due to the time zone factor. Hopefully we'll be able to do some TCP/IP to speed things up a bit on some upcoming weekends.

Since we're talking about Sounds in the Night...
I have a great screenshot showing the end-game carnage, but I don't have the know-how to post the file on the forum.
Could someone volunteer to host the pic?

I seem to recall an entry in George Forty's World War II Tanks, stating that it was a multi-turret design of the mid-30's, similar to the British Independent and the Russian T-28. IIRC, only a small number were built, and most of them saw only saw service in Norway in 1940.Originally posted by Panzer Leader:I can never remember how to spell it, but just what IS this German tank? When and where did it serve, etc.
[Trying to see if I could spell it closer to how it must be spelled.]

Good, I'm not going senile... yet.Originally posted by Holien:Redeker,
I have just done the turn. I am ever so sorry old chap but I did recieve it but it slipped my mind when playing Wreck the other night.
I have just done it and it is a 1.27 meg file....
I'm sure that the file size will go down once the vehicles start brewing up.

I may have some time on Saturday afternoon/evening and/or Sunday evening. I'll check with my better half and get back to you. The time difference may be a bit of an issue, since you're east coast and I'm west coast, and my usual CM time is after everyone else has gone to bed - although it worked great with that Kiwi JonS during the tourney.Originally posted by Wreck:To both the Capt and Redeker:
I have your turns and will return fire tonight.
If either of you want to lock horns in TCP to speed things up, I am game. This weekend in particular I think I should have time for it.
-
Holien, I'll go ahead and resend the turn when I get home this evening. I can see that the time differential will probably slow things down a bit on my end, as most of my CM time occurs after 9 p.m. I can also sometimes do a turn when I go home for lunch, but right now our scenario is so huge that I may not have the time to complete a full turn during the middle of the day. Weekends are so unpredictable that I can't commit to much - I might be out of town or busy with "honey-do's" the whole time, or I might do four turns in one day. It's a crapshoot.

Three of them are available at Scenario Depot. They all start with "RoW" so search under "R".Originally posted by Bimmer:Yet another question from someone who hasn't paid as much attention to this board as he should have: Have the RoW scenarios yet been made available for download anywhere, and if so, where? Thanks again.

Holien, I'm pretty sure I sent you my first turn's movement orders Sunday night(36 hours ago); I was waiting for the first turn movie to be sent my way for me to watch and then send it back to you. Let me know if I need to resend it, but I'm stuck at work for the next 9 hours and can't resend it until then.Originally posted by Holien:I await Redeker's 1st turn and for news on how they (Warren and Redeker) get on with WB's well crafted Rabbits Delight.
As far as Ranger Challenge goes, all I'll say is that battle has been joined. Did you and Wreck do TCP/IP to finish that one so quickly?
My Allied hill-climbing setup was sent to Wreck last night. Good thing the game doesn't model grenades rolling back downhill.

Capitalist Dog in China's handle is pretty self-descriptive.
WineCape (aka Mr. Tourney Sponsor) is in South Africa.
Argie is in Argentina.

Bertram,Originally posted by Bertram:As I asked elsewhere: the 'No time' and the Dompaire scenario's promised air support (maybe). I recieved it in neither game. It was not that bad in Dompaire (lost that one, but I could have done much better I think), but in No time it really hurt. In fact once the German armor arrived I could as wel pack it in, there was no way my green and regular Shermans could advance against the German armor (as far as I could see). Anyone else got no air and made any progress anyway?
Bertram
Are you talking about "We Can't Wait"? I received air support in that game, but it was a mixed bag. The initial bombing run was a case of friendly fire - the first bomb barely missed one of my tanks, and the second landed smack in the middle of my mounted support elements. I lost three trucks, two jeeps, one HT, two bazooka teams, one MMG team, and a mortar team; a Sherman was also immobilized by the blast. On subsequent strafing runs the airedales took out an Ostwind and the quad 20mm flak gun, and maybe a HT or two.
In Duel at Dompaire, I played the Germans, and lost (IIRC) four or five half-tracks to Pixelmaster's air power. The planes kept firing rockets at but missing my Panthers, but the strafing runs hurt my light armor.
Greg
P.S. Yes, we played Real Guts.

Setups have been sent/returned to Warren and Holien.
Gentlemen, start your engines...
Treeburst, thanks for posting all the Nabla scores. It was nice to de-mystify the formula (which I still don't quite understand  ) by seeing actual results.

FWIW, some of us do appreciate the product of the vintner's toil. If pressed, I can rustle up some Mondavi or Sattui from my "cellar" (wine rack at the bottom of the pantry). Some of the Mondavi was laid down ten years ago. :cool:Originally posted by WineCape:Treeburst,
