2. Hello, I installed the Beta and it's still reading 1.1b16. What did I do wrong?
3. Kali and Gamespy support depends on Kali and Gamespy modifying THEIR progs, not changes to CMBO. The major benefit to us users is that we could then see an internet-wide lobby of who wants to play in one fell swoop.
4. Does anyone know if Kali or Gamespy supports CM?
5. Lindan, Sorry if you took it that way. Any flame fest that might result would have nothing to do with your question but with the strong opinions of those answering the question. I think your question was legit and it makes sense to ask what people who like CM think about it. I believe some of the same strong advocates (myself included) on the Shrapnel site are also posting here. My thought is to keep the flame fest over on Shrapnel. 6. Hey Madmatt or KwazyDog, Just a thought that you might want to lock down this thread. The good/bad AI partisans are never going to agree and this is going to get ugly. IMHO, this can be discussed on the Shrapnel games website forum where a lively debate is already ensuing on this topic. I personally would just as soon leave it on the Shrapnel site. TIA
7. I had a blast with this scenario! There were especially tense moments when I was moving to engage the Germans, I had my infantry out in front and put a couple Shermans on some high ground with a good LOS. Lo and behold the Tiger slowly came around a curve in the road about 150m from the hill my Shermans were on. I was holding my breath to see who would get off the first round as the turrets of the the Shermans and the Tiger started rotating towards each other. I actually did a few screen captures, but I can't post them here because they could be considered spoilers. I have to say there werea couple NASTY surprises . The screen captures document the aftermath of them.
8. Check with the (US) Naval War College museum. They have an exhibit going on right now about the posters of WWII. [This message has been edited by Stealth (edited 12-14-2000).]
9. Thanks everyone for the help. For some reason this was a difficult concept for my small brain to grasp . I basically went in and looked for the jaggies and they were much more pronounced at 640*480 than at 1024 * 760. From this, and the fact that I can see the hi-res King Tiger just fine from the MMMP, I conclude that yes, my system is showing me increased resolutions and can handle the hi-res. Thanks again. (And thanks Doug for clarifying what exactly the hi-res graphics are and do! I've read three different explanations online, but I think I get it now .)
10. Bought the game and found the AI lacking to the extent that I can't recommend it. One reason I even considered buying it was because of how incredible CM is and I thought I would try and support another indy developer. My impression is that they haven't realized that what might be OK for a $20 shareware game they used to make isn't OK for a $40 game they now sell. The excuse for the AI is that it's a work in progress. My response: please do most of the work BEFORE the game is released. [This message has been edited by Stealth (edited 12-14-2000).]
11.
quote:
Originally posted by Maximus: OK, the scaling hotkey (Shift-C) works with distance. The further away from a unit you are the larger the unit will APPEAR. When you get close to those "enlarged" units, they don't look all that big. I play at +1 enlargement, because I find "Realistic" is really just too small. I also play at 1024x768 on a 17" monitor. It looks fine. Stealth, I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, but I can guarantee you that there is a huge difference in playing CM at 640x480 up to 1024x768 or higher as I can imagine. IIRC, I tried bumping the res down to 800x600 for a performance increase and even though it did, I couldn't stand playing at that res.

Maybe I don't know what to look for when I change the resolution? What should it look like? Maybe what I'm seeing is CM's slightly dated graphics and they actually are changing? I thought the graphics would look bigger in 640*480 and get smaller and smoother as the res increased. I would think my system could handle the higher resolutions. I added many high res mods and I'm not getting any system hit (except a very slight one when there is smoke on the screen).
12.
quote:
Originally posted by Doug Beman: How big is your monitor? Are you sure your system is capable of whatever resolution you're asking of it? Are you getting the correct "select graphics adapter/resolution" prompt when you go through the process of changing res? DjB

I have a 17" monitor, but I'm not positive my system can handle the higher res even though it accepts it in CM. On the face of it I think my system can handle it (P3 450, 128M, 3D Prophet II MX 32M card). In CMBO, once I delete the pref file, I'm only prompted to Accept/Skip the res. Is there another prompt for adapter or are you referring to Windows?
13. I've been playing around with winter camo mods for men and vehichles and I have to say the camo works. Maybe too well! I can easily see missing a chance to stomp on an enemy because *I* can't see them even though my units technically can and they can see me. Although the units will defend themselves, it's not the same as a coordinate effort to take an enemy out. I was wondering what the thought is out there on winter camo. If I'm playing someone in snow who doesn't have winter camo on MY units, my units will be highly visible against the white background. If on the other hand, I have winter camo on their units, I'll miss opportunities to nail them. While this makes the camo more realistic, IMHO it's also gamey because it gives me more of a fog of war than an opponent.
14. Hey Jonathan, I think I'm having a hard time asking the question . The reason I think the men are small is that they still look pretty small in view level 3 even when I enlarge them to +4. View level 2 is a little too close in for a good overview. Maybe it's something I need to get used to with the new video card?
15. OK. Maybe I'm losing it (read lost it). I updated the drivers for the card I actually have and now the vehicles look OK, but the men seem pretty small. I tried changing back from 1020 to 800, but they still seem kind of small. Maybe it's a mod or my eyes or both?
16. Actually, I am able to change the resolution settings by deleting the prefs folder (thanks for taking the time to answer one of the most FAQ ). The problem is that I don't notice a change in my graphic setting. They look the same when CM is set to 640*480, 800*600, 1024*768, and 1600*1200. The only thing I notice changing is the writing on the screen like "scenario loading" and things like that. Any ideas?
17. Hello, I've been playing around with the resolution settings in the CMBO prefs and the in game graphics all pretty much look the same to me. I set it for 1600 * 1200 and I didn't notice a big difference except for the size of the on screen words. I just got a 3D Prophet II MX (32MB) and I'm testing it out. Is the resolution actually changing for CM? I'm running on a P3 450 w/128M. How would I know if CM was ignoring my settings and defaulting to lo res?
18. Thanks Tris and Wolf^ for the pointers. I'll start slowly and think about a new video card. Hmmmm. Maybe I'll have to wait a while (a long while) and buy a new P4 with that card .
19. Another mod question: What will the mods do to system performance? I have a p3 450 w/16MB Voodoo card. Should I go for hi-res or lo-res mods? TIA
20. Anyone knwo if a KH scenario been released yet?
21. I just started to play this one last night v. AI. I really meant to be asleep by 1am, but I couldn't make myself save the game until 2am and then I had to turn my PC off real fast before I changed my mind. I like the terrain and atmosphere is pretty cool. I got lucky when a Tiger came blundering along in the woods and my Sherman got a perfect shot at its rear and took it out. During one turn, the Sherman that nailed that target blew up in front of me and I could not figure out what happened. After much looking around, 1/4 way across the map was a King Tiger peeking out of the woods! I should say, the muzzle of the King Tiger. I'm going to wrap it up tonight. Lots of burning armor all over the map.... Unfortunately, some of its mine.
22. I've had CMBO for a while, but I really haven't played too much. In addition, I really don't know the capabilities/functions of many of the vehicles. I basically play small meeting engagements v. the ai. My question: How good should I be before I play online? Being a real beginner, I don't want to waste anyone's time.
