1. I haven't been able to download the ToW movie files from any of the linked sites. The files come back as not found. Any way for Battlefront to host them directly?
2. Been playing some Call of Duty using an M1 Garand. Eight shots and the clip pings out. Time to reload. I had a jr high teacher who fought in Europe who I think talked about the enemy waiting to hear the ping of the clip popping out before charging an American position. How did an infantryman with an M1 manage this? Did he try to coordinate reloading with squadmates or did he hope that most of the guys around him didn't have to reload at the same time?
3. I was just going to refer to this book myself. This discussion raises the question "What is History?"
4. Hi Folks, I'm rejoining the world of Combat Mission after having cast off the world of computer gaming (not console gaming though) for a while. I'm impressed (aka amazed that I still had the password to sign in  . I upgraded to a new P4 and the first new software I ordered was the bundle pak! I'm not sure whether to play CMBB or CMAK first. I suspect if I try to immerse myself in both at the same time it will be a mediocre experience. I haven't played either. Any recommendations? 5. Has anyone else found that moving infantry becomes tedious? I try to find good cover for each unit. Does anyone just set them going in a general direction and hope for the best? [ 12-23-2001: Message edited by: Stealth ]

6. I just got Saving Private Ryan on DVD and it seems like a different movie compared to the video tape. The colors and sounds are amazing and the wide screen formate adds another dimension. If you have the opportunity to see it on DVD check it out.
7. If I were to create a Sherman website based on my CMBO experiences, it would just be a single jpg from the game of one of my Shermans in flames. I'm learning though....
8.
quote:
Originally posted by Samhain: A related question that interests me, at least on an abstract or philosophical level, is how people feel about the moral implications of finding entertainment in games that simulate, to greater or lesser degrees, historical mass killing and destruction. I don't mean video game violence in general, but specifically wargames that seek to recreate for fun the actions in which thousands upon thousands of men were killed, maimed, blinded, burnt alive, and so on. (Disclaimer: CM is one of my all-time favorite games. I still find the question interesting, though.)

I actually find myself contemplating this question personally. The reason is basically what you already stated. CMBO is a lot of fun for me, but it is also so realistic and makes me take a step back and say, "Whoa. People actually endured this." I suppose a game like CMBO is good for those of us who haven't been there. It helps lend more reality to a war that is almost always seen in old black and white photos. I suspect there are probably a couple of WWII combat vets out there playing CMBO. I would be interested to hear their thoughts on this. Also, forgot to add that when I see some of the tank photos posted here I'm blown away on two counts. 1. I would never want to face one on foot period. 2. How closely the CM graphics and mods match the photos. [This message has been edited by Stealth (edited 12-24-2000).]
9. If I only buy two reference books on WWII weapons and tactics - which should they be? I guess I'm kind of looking for a WWII Weapons for Dummies book that says this is the weapon, this is what it did, and this is how it was used. TIA

When asked by Signal what he intended to do next Zimmler Responded: “Ich gehe zu Disneyland”.

LOL! I play Allies and last night I had a game where 2 of my Shermans targeted a Panzer IV at medium range and proceeded to bounce shells off the upper hull for about 5 or 6 rounds until the Panzer IV crew began to wonder what all the noise was about and promptly blew the c*** out of them. 11. Could lend itself to a "Midnight Clear" scenario (if that was the name of that movie).
12.
quote:
Originally posted by Spii: Tiger where is your priest and allied gun mod located now ? interested thanks spii@mail.com

There's a day old thread called M7 Priest Mods? out there in which Tiger graciously provided a link so the mod could move from the lost to found department.

14. Same question as JediJobou. Can I PBEM games created in 1.1b22 in 1.1b23? TIA
15. After becoming addicted to hi-res mods, I'm noticing a wee bit of slowdown when I have many units on the field . Not terrible, but not as smooth as it was. I was wondering what mods people have come across that are lo-res mods, but have no real difference from the high-res mods. I know this is very subjective, but suggestions are appreciated. 16. Thanks Olle and Tiger. It's always nice to be able to get a "lost" mod!
17. Are there any M7 Priest mods out there? I haven't been able to find any so far. TIA
18. In all my hours playing CM, I've only had one crash to desktop (so far) on Win98 SE and that was with the 1.1b22 patch.
19. I've been noticing in the beta that units aren't taking the same actions to save their own lives that they used to. For example, I told a bazooka to target a STUG and then moved the unit to a point where I thought it could engage. During the turn, the Stug came to me within 30m of my unit with a perfect LOS both ways. My unit didn't drop and shoot or run for cover. It just kept plodding along to the movement point. I have also noticed this with armor where the armor will ignore a perfect target of opportunity in order to fulfill its movement order. The hunter becomes the hunted and my unit gets nailed. The units were Regulars. I really didn't notice this before. Can anyone confirm what I think I'm seeing? In most instances, the unit should have reacted somehow to save its own hide. 20. I had almost the exact situation yesterday. I was fast moving a bazooka into a heavy building. He was adjacent to the building and started to take fire. Instead of continuing on into the building to take cover, he ran back across open ground towards his own lines. He was promptly cut down in transit by the armor he was supposed to attack.
21. aka_tom_w : That's a good tip. I'm going to try it out.
22. I have just been doing some armor QB's (American v. German) and thos @#$@! German Halftracks have been wreaking havoc on me. In fact, I played one Game where my guys id'd the halftrack as a halftrack, but it took out so much of my armor (read "almost all of it") that I thought it had to be a tank. Well, I had one US halftrack left and this German haltrack with a 75mm gun mounted on it (didn't know they existed) came up to finish me off. I thought I was done for until the MG on my half track (to my pleasant surprise) took out the German track. I thought this was odd until I read that it's actually historically accurate .
23. Could someone please clarify for the patching impaired (me) the benefit of having multiple host IP addresses listed? Is this like seeing everyone out there who is waiting for an opponent?
