  1. Yep, I had this exact same problem also...running a P3 800; 128MB RAM; VooDoo 5500. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I finally fixed it. Not 100% sure what did it but here is what i did: Installed DX8, Loaded about 12 Win98 updates (from MS's Win98 update page), reset my virtual memory (deleted win386.swp and rebooted), and last but not least, deleted the CM prefs file. After doing this, the stuttering only lasts for about about 1 min and then vanishes. BTW, my problem was due to the ambient sounds in CM.
  2. Ive noticed a slight oddity in v 1.1 beta. I noticed this problem as I love playing those 700-1000pt quick battle meeting engagements using combined arms...letting the AI pick both sides. Anyway, the problem is that the AI seems to be adverse to buying tanks/armor in these setups...unlike ver 1.5. There was never a problem in ver 1.5 with the computer not tossing me one or 2 tanks/tank hunters in these small battles. However, there were rare times when I was issued no armor support...unlike in ver 1.1 beta where no armor is the norm in a combined arms meeting engagement. I was issued one Hummel out of around 25 battles...the rest of the force and games being all infantry/halftracks. I set this up several times in 1.5 as a comparison and was issued some type of armor in all but 1 battle. Odd to say the least. Anyway the other changes are great, but i liked the random set ups better in v 1.5. BTW, this also applies to the AI's forces as I selected the armor force for my setup and gave him the combined arms...here I noticed that he was issued all infantry w/ one halftrack.
  3. Well, I thought I was a reasonably fair CM player for a newbie until I attempted a city battle.(BTW just received the game 2 weeks ago and I must point out that saying it is great is an understatement). Anyway, I started off jumping from house to house with my engineer squads, flamethrowers, and machineguns (50 cal). Soon into the battle, I spotted a Wespe moving towards my line of advance from the other side of town. I immediately called one of my 3 Shermans over and it was taken out in short order, but not before it did horrendous damage to one of my platoons and panicked them. I ordered the other 2 Shermans and Hellcat to cover seperate lanes into the town to provide cover fire for advancing infantry (plus I was nervous about other German armor assets lurking about). Soon afterwards, my men made it to the center of town and the victory objectives...then all hell broke loose. First of all the Germans pounded me with seemingly unending 81mm and 105mm arty fire. On top of this i was unable to advance due to the murderous crossfire and German infantry/machine guns hiding in the houses I needed for cover. Then, to my horror I heard that cringe inducing tank "knockout" sound several times...2 Shermans and the Hellcat were in flames. Meanwhile, a Panther, Stug III (shelled my troops nicely), Whirbelwind, and a 37mm Flak came into view. Needless to say the battle was over at this point. So my question to the board is the following: Could anyone give me a few sound, generic city-fighting tactics along with the effective use of tanks in this situation? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
