  1. I am glad to see the Party Soldiers play chess. In addition, the best chess software in the world "Fritz 6" using refueling. This was due to the many complaints, both to the makers of Fritz and Chessmaster. Regards, GB
  2. Currently, we have to place the CM CD diskette in the player each time we load and play a turn. Other programs use to do this as well until they gave in to complaints by customers. Many of these games began using techniques such as refueling every thirty ( 30 ) days. In other words, you would only have to put your CD in the player every thirty days and hit the refuel button. I think BTS should consider this option. Regards, GB
  3. Put your Death Ray gun away, the thread was doing fine until you threatened it. Regards, GB
  4. This may help: http://www.nvidia.com/Products/GeForce2MX.nsf/
  5. WOW...I had to look twice to determine if it was a real car or not !! Imagine having armour look that realistic ! What types of programming ( graphics ) have they used that is different from CM to make them look that real ?? Thx, GB
  6. Did somebody mention bumps ?? I am not sure how much programing is needed to add the ability for bumps. Let's pick best case scenario that it would not take much coding and that anybody can add them to mods in the .bmp files. This would be a nice feature. BTS could just allow mod makers to add the bump graphic design work themselves, to such items as walls, buildings, tanks etc.. This would stop the perfectly smooth/sheen items that do not look realistic. This would not bog down BTS graphics designers just let CM fans do the work. There are so many who enjoy doing mods. There may be some snags to my scenario, but perhaps without any potty-mouth we can work our way through it. If you are interested in seeing what these effects look like and how they could enhance the graphics of the game go here: http://www.nvidia.com/Powerof3D.nsf be sure to download the .exe file associated with each picture, prepare to have your mind blown. You shall see what high end graphics can really be like rather than mediocre. In regard to the comment(s) that customers do not have the hardware to drive T&L and other effects as I mentioned in my original post NIVIDIA video cards have a GPU that does the work for the effects of T&L and takes the strain off the cpu. Currently, Nividia has a 50% marketshare and it is growing. Eventually, CM will have T&L it is just a matter of time. My suggestion would be to start now as time and resources allow and complete it as soon as possible. ( soon is a relative term ) Best regards, Gunny Bunny
  7. Good points Jeff Heidman I hadn't considered tracers and other night effects. It would certainly increase immersion. Regards, Gunny Bunny
  8. Here is an interesting occurence in the AI I am experiencing: It is dark with 25 meters of visibility. My choice was made by the AI and it selected three mortar carriers. This is a low point game, so allot of armour points went into these. The problem is you need at least 100 meters minimum to fire them. So I am really in a jam. My opponent has all usable armour. My infantry are fighting like pigs, but it is hard. I think in future I am only going to play game in which I manually choose my forces, otherwise the game becomes a little strange if the AI is cruel - I find it rather interesting that people believe I think CM is a bad program... I have only offered constructive criticism. Regards, Gunny Bunny
  9. I think this is a well balanced response to the graphics question. Let's look at the truth now: 1) BTS graphics are average compared to software as a whole; 2) BTS graphics are great compared to just military software; 3) BTS is NOT responsive to requests from customers for improved graphics. Take Dymanic Lighting ( T&L ) for example. If it takes a rewrite then best to do it now, or it should only become more painful later; I find it rather laughable that the Party-Soldiers first come on this thread defending the graphics quality to the death and by the end of page two they are coming around to a more balanced point of view, BTS has their brainwashing technique down pat - Let's face it: There is plenty of room for graphics improvement in CM. Here are my two (2) suggestions; 1) Put dynamic lighting for the effects noted earlier ie: muzzle flashes, fire, smoke etc. 2) Make CM2 64 meg Vram. Stop focusing so much on people that have out of date computers. If they want to have out of date computers that is their business, but should the rest of us suffer because of it ?! I SAY NO !!! Regards, Gunny Bunny
  10. Quote from Article: "A first-person shooter player might think Combat Mission’s graphics somewhat dated, and in all honesty the graphics are quite a bit behind the bleeding edge." http://www.insidemacgames.com/reviews/view.php?ID=8 Seems like others share the same view as I do !! Gunny Bunny
  11. Don't worry about the BTS party soldiers posting on this thread they are all just Gunny Bunny wannabe's. There are leaders ( me ) and there are followers ( them ). They just follow me around and add nothing creative and significant to the discussions. Go to alt.games.combat-mission You won't find the truth at a webboard censored by the owners of the software. Regards, Gunny Bunny
  12. Go here there is no censorship at this newsgroup: http://www.geocities.com/combat_mission1/Charter.htm The CM webboard is heavily censored as soon as they read something they do not like they lock the thread. Regards, Gunny Bunny
  13. No,the reason I created alt.games.combat-mission is because BTS kept locking my threads even though there was no spam on the threads. Seemed fach to me ! No, I do not think BTS is responsive to their customers wants, some examples: 1) Why are they using a freeware crappy webboard ?? Does not seem responsive to customers wants and needs to me. In fact, the board is not remembering my handle and password so I have to keep entering it ! 2) BTS is quite sensitive about the topic of graphics. They realize their graphics quality is moderate compared to many non-wargame software. In fact, it would not surprise me if BTS comes on this thread spouts off and locks the thread before anyone has a chance to respond...happened the last time ! 3) Dyanmic lighting is not a large add on, it is a reasonable request from customers that have hardware that can utilize it. I have explained this in my original post. Smoke ? Muzzle flashes ? Impacts ? Is adding something like this a major graphics upgrade ?? I don't think so, I feel this is a reasonable request and several people on the thread support it. It seems the nay-sayers are just the people that do not want to upgrade their video cards. They want CM to stay at it's present level forever so they don't have to upgrade. Sorry to disappoint you, but the world does not revolve around your outdated 233MX and 16 meg video card. BTS has already missed the mark in CM2....32 megs is not the correct target it should have been 64 megs with backward compatibility to 32 megs !! Shame Shame Shame Remember, BTS blew it on CM1 with only 4 megs of ram then had to redo their crappy graphics to 16 megs....history is about to repeat itself. 17. We should first note the Nividia video cards now control over 50% of market share. Nividia now owns the company that made 3dfx and they have a Graphic Processing Unit ( GPU ). The GPU processes such things at Dynamic Lighting ( T&L ) so there is no drag on the CPU. I would suggest that CM2 takes advantage of T&L in a small way for the following effects: - flares - muzzle flashes, projectiles, impacts - fire - smoke Any other suggestions for T&L would be welcome. The hardware is available and being purchased by many of us. I would suggest that CM takes advantage of the opportunity to enhance their software. Regards, Gunny Bunny
  18. Hello, I think on PBEM games that person receiving the PBEM game on the setup turn should be able to see the conditions of the game. weather, turns, date and village etc. Would it be that difficult to patch that all in ?? Thx

  20. This person plays CM, they understand what is REALLY happening. You get the truth from playing CM not from running tests. Gunny Bunny <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Napoleon1944: One thing I have noticed is that the tac AI for tanks aquires the AT teams far too easily. Even when there are many inf targets closer, the AI picks off the AT teams. When it comes down to a player losing all his tanks and only left with some AT teams, forget it. The side with the last tank standing is usually the winner in my experiences. In fact, players surrender now when they have lost their last tank, which usually turns out to be a German player. Tanks feared infantry, especially in buildings, but when they can pick out which enemy is carrying a small PIAT amongst 20 other targets, it seems to me to be unrealistic. I have discussed this aspect with many ww2 non-CM gamers and they all agree. You might as well make a mod for a bright orange PIAT so it reflects CM reality. Too bad it is hard coded <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by 109 Gustav: Seems that every time BTS does something to make the game run better, like have Allied tanks use their tungsten rounds, the fans of German tanks howl. I don't believe I've ever heard anyone complain about the German tanks getting better. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I just want a more level playing field. I lost two Tigers and one Panzer while the allies only lost one Sherman which I had hit three times. The Allies had so much armour left the game became like "shooting ducks in a barrel" that's not fun to play or watch. Regards, GB
  22. I have noticed that the allied armour is becoming far to powerful. The German armour is getting massacered. Does anyone else find this ?? http://www.geocities.com/combat_mission1/Charter.htm

  24. Hello, This is to advice you of the recently created nttp newsgroup alt.games.combat-mission. If you are unable to subscribe to this group request your Internet Service Provider ( ISP ) to add it to their news-server. 25. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by MantaRay: What is with all of this Fionn bashing anyway? Is it that people are jealous of his knowledge of WWII? Or that he plays CM really well? Sad really, as Fionn has added quite a bit of historical knowledge (before the ban that is) and seems to be a good guy IMO. Too bad a few people (to remain nameless) baited him into going on the offensive (that may have led to his removal here). Ray<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hello, Are you stating Fionn is banned from the BTS webboard ?? If so, may I enquire as to why ?? Fionn claims to be some sort of beta tester working for BTS. Is this correct ??
