  1. Is 85% armor quality to panther and 95% to sherman realistic? Should there be variation in numbers. I guess not all Panthers were made of lowest quality armor.

  3. In other thread by rexford it was said that 88L56 retains energy clearly better than 76L54. CM just seems to model the opposite. So is there any realism behind this?

  7. Nice replies BTS! Deploying AT-guns to low visibity areas, like in many places of NW europe needs different tactics than one would use at large open areas at eastern europe. So my question is: Will CM2 model long range engagements better than CM1? Where optics quality and other such things play much larger role. Basicly can we expect to see realistic east front engagements?
  8. Yes, i would like to have Panther G by Tiger too, but lets just be patient until he finds place for his great mod on the net. Black/Gray Stug, Jpz-IV ,Zimmerit Tiger and battered Panther A are all my favorite Those make other mods to look like toys.   9. No my crews werent under fire. I had stugIII which refused to fire too....2 turns after ordering area fire it hadnt shot a round. It was little bad because i only wanted all enemy infantry to come and defend the church ..they did but i couldnt blast it away
  10. I had hotseat game with my friend and he ran his remaining infantry to church. I had some nashorns outside but they refused to fire at church. They had plenty of HE ammo, but they just stared at infantry in the church. AREA fire or target to infantry...they aim but never fire. Church would have needed maybe 1x88mm round to crumble to dust. It had been badly damaged in my artillery shelling. This opens many gamey tactics Version is 1.1b24

  13. Ive heard that longest distance (direct fire)AFV kill in WW2 was by german 8,8cm Flak in N.Africa. Flaks were shooting british armored column at open desert from 12km range. I guess that must be more than 5000yards?
  14. I think this subject is more about mortars pin point accuracy. (no one can count tanks exact position in seconds and start hitting it right away+ great dispersion would make perfect aim impossible.) Now we see mortars hitting AVFs roof 3 times in row from 800m...quite accurate from guy not allways even seeing the target.
  15. Huh... my mortars are effective as hell. Also way too accurate. they hit tanks top easily from 400m distance. Unrealistic IMHO..dispersion should be much wider. If i have 2 mortanrs in Battle i usullay can destroy 2tanks, 4 halftracks or 4TDs with it. I had TCP IP game where ALL my armor was knocked out by on-map mortars. After enemy armor was eliminated. heh..mortars not effective? Mortars must be most effective weapon in game...they can easily kill 2 tanks without risking themselves. Even panther cant do that!

  18. Im mostly sure even tungsten has no change penetrating 80mm at 70 degree angle. Basicly rounds tip never hits to turret so it rinochets...no matter if its tungsten of not. [This message has been edited by illo (edited 12-22-2000).]
  19. I just read that Finnish AT crews with 75mm Pak40 averaged 2 shots to 1 hit from ranges of 1000-1200 in combat against non moving tanks. That was allso recommended range to open fire against russian tanks. If tank was moving recommended range was 700m when lead predictor sight could be used with accuracy. In Combat Mission i had firefight between 2 veteran PzKpfw IVh and 2 regular Sherman IIs. Range was 1200m-1100m Pz IVs were positioned in scattered trees and hiding. They opened fire at 1200m. Both PzIVs fired about 15 shots without hitting anything. Shermans fired maybe 15 times or more hitting other PzIV and knoking it out. Then second later knocking other out too. PzIV were in ambush position they could use 3 minutes for aiming to be more sure of hit. They could count Shermans range from their Zeiss sights.But no... accuracy was around 13% to hit...poor gunners or what? Even ground was totally flat grassfield. I understand if those Shermans had problem aiming with their inferior sights and low velocity cannon. But what was wrong with PzIV? Has easy easy 8 or Firefly so bad change to hit too? Or is PzKpfw-IVh 75mm gun very different than 75mm Pak40? I thought it was even better.
  20. For example if you look at Königs Tiger front turret youll see that effective hit area is REALLY small. Maybe 10% of its frontal profile.(sides are very steep angle from front wievpoint.) Is this counted as huge profit in hulldown as it should be??? Or is KT hulldown counted as 50% of vehicle size? And only front turret (10%) can be hit.
