  1. I do not know if anyone else has put this up but another review that may amuse combat mission 2
  2. Of course there is our fat lady friend who sings for us all from time-to-time
  3. Oh and I forgot to say... welcome on board and no question is a silly question, we are all still learning. If we were not the game would lose its appeal fairly rapidly. And one thing CM has is longevity.
  4. I am a sub-grog I suppose. I have played table-top since a kid (some 30 years) and have a fair knowledge of the equipment. However, I have found the following of use... starting up the scenario editor, picking kit you are unsure of, then browsing the terrain, clicking on the item and hitting the return key to get its details. You can look at both sides kit this way and compare. For points games this can be a real use, you also get to look at the things after all esthetics ARE everything... Hope this makes sense and helps
  5. More seriously does anyone know how much forum membership has jumped?
  6. Can anyone tell me how to get the damage bars to appear above units please I assume there is a shotcut key somewhere. My computer slows down when my pixels get tired.
  7. Sorry for the last post... I must admit loose and lose is one of the few that grates on me. But (if Shakespear can do it so can I) the point I was making is that English is a complex unstructured language. It is often far too easy to find errors in posts. So what? I am more interested in the meaning than the syntax.
  8. Been playing with this this afternoon for a while. What i have found is quite interesting and i thought i would share. If you are in a QB and save (alt s) the file is placed in the saved game directory. You can then copy this (via explorer) into the Quick Battle maps directory. Now you can restart CMBB and use a previous map for a new QB. One of the critisims of random maps was there were good maps and bad maps. Bad maps (one-sided) often result in restarts, good maps are lost forever. There have been random maps i would have loved to replay. Now it is possible. Perhaps, in the future, there will be a repository of 'great maps' on a web-site. There is also the opportunity to review before buying troops in a QB. (undocumented feature?) Hope this is of use Cris
  9. I have seen several posts on different graphics levels, with and withot anti aliasing. I can see how to pick and test different settings... Am I being stupid somewhere?
  10. I agree with Vanir's points. I prefer bigger battles. I was weened onto them and have not looked back. I like the way they tend to break down into smaller focused battles around the terrain and the resouce management side, needing to shift forces between areas of engagement. I love the QB maps that have clumps of objective flags with large spaces of less stategic value. I also love the "can I take the middle before the left flank folds" scenarios you get. Smaller battles can easily be one or lost on the loss of a single vehicle, larger battles are less fickle in that way. BTW good thread peeps.
  11. Try different layer modes other than normal. Overlay can work well so can colour dodge. Making a detail layer to put on top and trying blending modes can also bring the detail back out.
  12. See PBEM Blues thread It follows the same problem with some advice.
  13. Lou, I will try again with my American oppo starting, I owe it to him. If that does not work I will give you a call. I am playing too many PBEMs at present to take on more than 1 game.
  14. From Matt... "We have not positively identified an issue between the CDV version and the US version but it would appear that there is something there. Our thinking is that since the CDV version is slightly different than the US version that could be the cause for the incompatibility. In a couple of weeks we plan on releasing the v1.01 patch for all versions which could alleviate this issue." I will try the suggestion of setting the game up in the American version and let you know.
  15. I tried playing a PBEM game with a US player using the British CDV version. And it corrupted the data transfer files. The US version could not read them. My oppo contacted BTS and they were aware and it would be fixed in the first patch. I did not, however, get the full story on the problem... Does anyone know about this? Has anyone else had the same problem? Is it limited to certain setups? Does it make the big pond a real barrier for now? Frustrated of the UK    [ October 23, 2002, 04:51 AM: Message edited by: cris ]
  16. Please send me a copy if possible. ironchicken@blueyonder.co.uk regards Iron C
  17. I ran a test firing scenario and a ST had a direct hit on an IS2 (no crater). And the crew got out intact! Not all that realalistic but I have got to say LOL and ROTFLMAO 45 city fight ME, overcast, no rarity me gerry anyone? LOL
  18. One Nudge... page 3 in less than 24
  19. A list of the Bitmaps that make up the PSW222. I wanted to have a go at modding and I like the little car, always have.
  20. I feel priviledged that the games I mostly like to play have sensible players i want to talk to. You only need to spend 5 minutes looking at a Counterstrike forum to understand what i mean. Even the flame threads tend to be witty (not going to mention... ) Anyway, as a question, how many copies of CMBB are likely to be sold? how many copies of CMBO are out there? I have no feel. Do reviews matter? I have sold copies to friends by demonstrating the game or word-of-mouth.
  21. I like the CMBB features lots but the russian front is my favorite theatre. I prefer the western front. I would like to see CMBO updated as suggested by others or the furtile crescent (southern Europe and Noth Africa) or perhaps even both combined. Matilda 2s Matilda 2s Matilda 2s
  22. I caused a Sherman crew to bail out with a quad 20 on the front once. it is quite ammusing watching all ricochets.
  23. I have noticed that in the terrain pane, at the bottom of the screen when troops are selected, the heavy or light building is sometimes followed by * or **. I think it is the level of damage the building has taken but i am not sure. Could not find anything about it in the book. Clues??
