  1. I've just loaded a quick battle and the Churchill AVRE had no HE ammunition just 25 hollow charge's ©. I reloaded another QB with 10 AVRE's and they all had 25 hollow charges and no HE. Is this normal? What does AVRE mean? I'm running v1.05 by the way. I did a search on the web and I had no idea that it was an external loaded mortar. The co-driver had a sliding hatch in which to pop up/out and reload. Great Photo's: http://freespace.virgin.net/chris.shillito/a22new/avre/avre.htm
  2. Gaffertape, Why would you choose the Firefly over the Challenger. The Challenger seems to be better armored, faster and has lower ground pressure. I see now that the Firefly has a .50 cal on the turret and what seems to be a smaller silhouette (100 to 115)(That's odd though because if you place them side by side the Firefly looks a lot bigger), the Firefly also has a Gyrostabilizer. And do you get the IIC or the VC? Thanks again for these prompt responses.
  3. I've never set up as the U.K and have a couple of questions. Which do you prefer the British 76mm (17pdr?) in a Sherman or Challenger. If a Sherman which one do you feel is the most cost effective the IIA, IIC or VC I noticed one of the features of the Wolverine is a "Shot Trap". What is that exactly? Is the British 75mm gun on the Churchill any different against infantry than the Sherman's 75mm. (which is very effective) or does it use the same shell/gun. I'm sure this has been talked about before(and before and before and before…..) but fresh voices and opinions couldn't hurt.
  4. I played a PBEM quick battle where I was the Germans and my opponent took the Polish. We were both had regular troops and they hung in practically to the last man. I withstood assualt after assualt dishing out some high losses but they kept coming back and finally I was forced off the victory location in the final two turns. I compliment the Commander and his troops for a well fought battle. So perhaps it is more the leadership than the nationality.
  5. Jadayne, I started with TacticsII also back in oh about 1966 or so. It certainly started me on a long road of wargaming. My brothers and I played D-Day so many times, we had it down so pat the only way you could win was to land in the Bay of Biscay and then you couldn’t loose. Another game we started out with was Blitzkrieg with Great Blue vs. Big Red. To get an idea of how old that is it a terrain feature called the Great Sandy Koufax Desert. Then there were a host of others…1914, Jutland, Midway, Bismark, Guadalcanal, Tobruk, Anzio and then the new genre of games PanzerBlitz and the holy of holy’s, Squad Leader. Have I missed any? Anyway, thanks for reminding me of the good ‘ol days. Good Luck with your search.
  6. The museum in Mattituck moved to Virginia awhile back. It was excellent. Everyday they would start an AFV up and rumble about the field. Inside a large hanger was all sorts of different ordinance a lot of it hands on. Some very cool diorama’s too. But one day people moved in next door to the museum and started to complain to the town about the MkIV and the rest of the tanks making to much noise. So instead of fighting city hall they packed up and moved to a place that was happy to have them. Much to my disgust. (It was a typical scene of somebody moving in next to an airport then complaining about the planes making to much noise) There was a thread somewhere talking about Tank Museums in the US if you’d like to try a search.
  7. You’ll find the Victory locations (Flags) close to the front line in a probe, further back in an attack and further still in an assault. The ratio of troops will be greater for the attacker also for each type of battle.
  8. That must be an old survey. I voted on something like this a long time ago and it won’t let me vote again.
  9. Infantry should always support tanks, any kind of tanks, by protecting them from Infantry AT weapons, close assaults, ambushes etc. An Infantry Support Tank was designed for just that purpose, not for tank killing. You’ll find most infantry support tanks have large caliber guns with little or no armor piercing shells. It should follow an infantry assault taking out any stubborn resistance the infantry finds. And believe me they can do this with deadly efficiency. Protect them with tank destroyers and it becomes an awesome combination that is tough to stop.
  10. S & C told Me they’re tired of all combat. CM2 will be devoted to farming with real time vegetable growing. Although the sowing of root vegetables will be IGOUGO.
