  1. For small unit action If You Survive: by George Wilson a Lt in the 4th Inf Div is good.

For the view from a Private who became a Lt at he end of the War Roll Me Over: Raymond Gantter is great. His book was written from notes and letters that he had with him while in France and Germany '44-'45, so it has a freshness and intensity that other books written long after the war sometimes lack.

Both should be available from your public library.

  2. the 240mm M1 came into service in May '43, was used "extensively" in Italy and later in NW Europe. Took up to 8 hrs to set up and weighed over 30 tons, so was only used when front lines were fairly static.

Used by the US Brits it fired a 360lb shell. Went out of service in the late 50's though supposedly still in use in Taiwan. (source: Chris Bishop Encyclopedia of weapons of WWII.)

  3. I guessed as much but I wanted to be 100% sure ;)

Is this a joke? Are you just trying to get a laugh or do you really want to .....

Chinese are pretty prudish in many ways. If you want to make her burst out laughing with your crudity, you could say "ni yao da pao ma?" Lit. "Do you want to help me fire the big canon!" Being a military man you might like that one.

Slightly more refined would be, "ni yao zuo ai ma?" copied from the West, "do you want to make love."

More subtle would be to invite her to dinner at your place and then when it's getting late say "you don't NEED to go home, you know?" ... "jintian wanshang, ni keyi bu yong hui jia...."

Of course, without explaining the pronunciation and most importantly the tones, it would be extremely unlikely she'd even realize you were speaking Chinese.

  4. Dorosh,

I'm no sure if this is helpful but Terry Gander in his book on Allied WW2 Infantry Weapons says, " tripods convertible into AA mountings" were available in 1939 but "gradually disappeared" during the war, rarely being used, "apart from a few special applications." Some tripods were retained until the '70's.

He has a picture of twin Brens for AA use with twin 100 round drum magazines. No shots of any tripods though. AFAIK he is a well respected author on military weapons.

  5. Just finished a PBEM game. QB with 4 VL's. I was playing Brits and throughout the game I held, or thought I held, 2 of the flags and the other 2 were marked as neutral. The final map came as a surprise as it had 3 German held VL's and one neutral.

Here's the best part ... I was awarded a minor victory  Never new it was possible to win like that.

I've been playing CM and reading this forum for about a year yet I still learn new things all the time. Hope my opponent enjoys the ironic end to our game.
