  1. After reading that article I wonder.

Lets see if I shoot something with a 152mm gun at 500 meters and with 4 of them no less, and it causes cracking that armor must be crap.

Then when I shoot it with smaller munitions ( 122mm shell)after the onsluaght of a large shell and it causes more cracking and even holes I cant imagine why. Then get this, a american 76mm shell actually penetrates it after the 30 or first shells failed. What were the germans thinking? After all by that time they were vastly outnumbered. I guess they should have alloted for at least 60 direct hits from high caliber shells.

I mean jesus on one the pics I see a 63 next to a hole, I can only imagine that means the 63rd penetration. Maybe if they would have taken 63 Tiger IIs and shot each one once then lets see how the outcome is. Not 1 Tiger II and shoot it over 63 times and call it not King.

Maybe what they should have done is line a Tiger II and Sherman up at 400 meters with thier front armor facing each other and then fire 1 shot and see who wins. I doubt the Sherman will have a turret left.

I for one am glad the Germans never got the King Tiger rolling early in say 1943 cause it would have been very very ugly.

Anyways in CM I have yet to lose a King Tiger smile.gif Eventhough I do have a knack for getting my Tigers knocked out by wimpy Shermans frown.gif

  2. What I mean is this.

The language is showing its age. TO learn a Object oriented language there is no need in rushing out and getting the most complicated language out there. Exactly what are you planning on doing once you learn a language?

The real purpose of learning a Object Oriented language at first is to understand exactly how everything fits together. This is why I say go with Java 2. Not because I think it is better but because it is easier to learn and get the basics imbedded into your head.

Once you have the basics down then you can easily pick up C or C++. If you want to program for games I would say C or C++ is the better option. I would say this though.

With the newest compilers for Java the performance difference is quickly closing.

We have a version of Oracle 8i that was developed with Java.

The advantage of learning Java is it is cross platform. Well at least about 87% cross platform at last count smile.gif I personally dumped the true Object Oriented Languages for what I do.

I work on developing client side programs to manipulate Data bases. I find that VB 6 is the easiest and most flexible for the job. I can whip up a program in a matter of weeks that would probably take me months in Java.

Soon Ill be moving onto better things like ASP. Better pay, and more exciting smile.gif

  4. Tonight I got some classic screenshots.

I am playing a random scenario against the polish. And well after a Sherman V tore up a heavy machine gun crew it tried to come into town. Well on the 59th second it came perfectly into view of my Tiger smile.gif

On the second 2 of the next turn I see the recoil, feel the sound of the gun firing and then the glee as I hear that great explosion of a Sherman smile.gif I had a Squad of rifle men hunt down the crew and teach them a lesson on how to kill smile.gif

Everytime I play this game I get more into it. But somehow have to figure out why I can wipe all the shermans out but a single one will whack out like 4 tigers. Oh well hehehe

  5. To be honest I would have never heard of this game if my boss did not have a PC Gamer.

I saw the review and thought hey this looks cool. So I doanloaded the demo and played the game. Looked sweet. Bought it, got it on Monday. Learning the ropes the last two day. Liking the game more and more each day.

I really like the winter battles.

I am as the CM Borg would say "Assilimated"

  6. My favorite games that concern strategy and more realism than Starcraft can provide smile.gif

I still play the V for Victory series. I lost my Gold Juno Sword Disks frown.gif but still play the Utah beach, Operation Market Garden, and Velyki Luki scenarios. I have been playing that game since like 1993. I like those games because they were the first games that I saw supply lines affect a outcome. I used to use my stronger SS units and break through systematically cutting and destrying opposing armies. The Soviets were very easy to do this to smile.gif

Then I also like World at War series, operation Cursader. I wanted to get the Stalingrad edition but never got around to it.

I also play PBEM games run by a gm. Played germany last and made the game very interesting. They quit it before my 10,000 tanks came into operation smile.gif They were going to invade the soviet union. I know I know how dumb is that? Well I already beat the brits down and had the french in my pocket smile.gif

Just got thi game today and see this has some great possibilities. Not the divisional level command job I am used to but after looking at the scenario called "All or none"?

I cant imagine commanding multiple divisions and still enjoying the game smile.gif

  7. Well crap I was just playing Walk in Paris and gave myself a nice boost in manpower. Like 50% cause I just want to get a feel for the game. My panthers were doing the trick against the shermans making them drop like flies.

I would have probably won if the americans did not have a sherman from hell. The damn thing knocked out 4 Panthers. And the french had a M10 that took out 3 Panthers! I did kill the M10 on my last shot but we never killed that lone sherman!

  8. I ordered mine on Aug 17th.

You should have got a Email about some screw up at shipping and how all our copies were to be shipped about 1 week late.

P.S. The American artillery is much more potent in the real game vs the demo smile.gif Im getting smoked hehe They knock my tanks out faster than flies on shat

  9. I have to disagree with number one. The German army MAY have been really quite efficient in certain areas but it wasn't army wide. Everyone marvels at Germany's 'efficient' Panzer forces but they always forget that those mechanized forces were a small fraction of the German army. Overall the German army was plagued by its inefficiency. So much of it relied on horse power or feet to move it around. The German army as a whole was hampered by its overall lack of motorization and mechanization.

Ill give you that one, it was a combination of Hitlers shortsightness, always fighting, and a combined world effort. For the time they were on the offensive they really were quite efficient at breaking lines and eveloping the enemy. In the end they ran up against a larger army with more weapons smile.gif

And yes I learned after the V4V series of games that the germans almost never had Mech infantry.

As for number two, it may be true that the US didn't have the most menacing tank but they did have the tank that was one of the most widly produced and did win the war. The Germans were designing a new tank for just about everything that came along. The US settled on one basic design and was determined to mass-produce it. The Germans would have been better off, IMO, selecting fewer and less-complicated designs and building as many as they could instead of producing a few highly technical beasts.

This is the chinaSyndrome as I like to call it. I would hardly call the chinese army anything great. But they sure can throw some cannon fodder at you. smile.gif I think we could have produced a better tank than the sherman and I believe all the crews who watched in horror as thier shells bounced off Panther and Tiger tanks only to watch a 3 foot hole open up in thiers would agree.

  10. For me it is because of the following reasons.

    1. German army was really quite efficient, this is never explained in Western history books. When I learned about WWII in school it was mostly. Germany invaded Poland, the allies banded together, Japan attacked Hawaii, the US joined and we kicked some Axis ass!

In a way this is my way of point a big fat middle finger at the propoganda machine that continues to this very day. And a way to say hey it was not all rosy after Normandy for the Allies.

    2. Damn they have cool uniforms and even better looking weapons. Tanks look much more menacing and tough when compared to a Sherman, I dont think General Sherman would have been proud of that tinderbox on two tracks.

    3. Under dog factor. I mean common lets face it, once the U.S. got involved the Germans were just over powered with brute stength in terms of numbers.

    4. that dark side feeling. I mean come on they were after all the closest thing to satans army that we have seen in some time on this earth. The Army of Darkness is what some call them and that sounds quite interesting to command.
