  1. Oh boy .... the myth lives on ... and besides. They beat up on minor powers. When push came to shove, they got their butt kicked"

They stomped France, and England most of the war. If the Soviets didnt have such a large population they probably would have stomped them also. And if the US didnt get involved I highly doubt England or the Soviets would have survived.

I fail to see how that is the myth.

My grandfather fought on the Western Front. He said they are about the toughest SOBs he has ever seen. He said nobody knows what war is like until they went up against the Germans. But of course would not go into details.

Anywho i nominate the US soldier. For some reason we always seem to find a way to win smile.gif

Always inflicting more casualties than the enemy.

  2. How about these few lines from me.

"WTF are you kidding me? A Daimler AC whacked my Panther?"

"You dumbass King Tiger, why are you firing at troops when a Sherman is deflecting rounds off your turret, no you moron dont turn 90 degrees to the sherman, ****ing idiot you just got knocked out!"

    Or this great one.

"I tell you to hunt straight forward and you decide to turn 90 degrees to the right for no apparent reason and get smoked by a sherman? You dumbass panther!"

  3. Hey dont feel bad. In the last two games I have played against the AI I lost a panther in each game to a friggin Daimler AC. This is a full frontal shot from about 300m.

    Sickening.

On a side note I had my Hetzer + 75 AT and an opponents Sherman Jumbo exchange shots at 1000m. We must have ricocheted about 20 shots in 2 turns off each other before I said screw it I am wasting my op rounds smile.gif

Poor AT gun was then decimated by the Jumbo. :(

  4. But then shouldnt it be knocked out?

For instance I had a 75 crew that was being shot at by rifle squad pretty good. They were routed and the gun abandoned.

2 turns later they are back to normal and the gun is not knocked out but just abandoned. They should be able to reclaim the gun. If the gun takes damage it should be knocked out.

  5. Gen, if your KT was buttoned he might have never noticed that a Sherman was busy spanking him."

    He was buttoned but

    1. He was just fighting with him 1 minute earlier

    2. The sherman deflected 3 shots off his turret.

Some of you bring up some good points. I would say that possibly this could have been alleviated if the whole tank did not turn to face the troops and only the turret?

Maybe when the whole tank turned it could not make a LOS on the sherman eventhough the Sherman could on the KT?

But does anybody have a concrete answer on the air support? I was astounished at the level of destruction it caused. I figured it may stick around for 5 mins but 17 mins? I had to go to class and quit on the 17th min. Who knows it could have gone on even longer.

  6. Ok my small rant goes like this. Yesterday playing the AI. I moved a King Tiger to the top of a hill. It did its work killing a Sherman and 3 Half Tracks. Then US Infantry rushed the hill since it was a capture point.

I had infantry supporting the tank killing the US infantry in the open. The tank started exchanging shots with a Sherman from about 500 meters. The Sherman dropped smoke and my King lost its LOS. Anywho when the smoked cleared my King turned to fight the infantry and open its side up completly. Not a big problem thinking that since the Sherman was targeting the King the King would eventually target back and turn to face the Sherman. It never happened. My King kept on fighting the Infantry and 55 seconds later and 3 shots that deflected off the turret the King was knocked out on the 4th.

Why would the King not think the Sherman was more of a threat than the infantry? Especially since I had a HMG 42 and 2 squads of SS rifle troops whacking the Americans out. I found that rather annoying.

My question is about Air support. The AI bought fighter\bomber support. Now how many turns does this last? I counted 17 mins of strafing and bombing. They killed 2 75s, a 150 inf gun, 1 puma, 2 haltracks, strafed the hell out of one company causing almost 2 full platoons to go into panic. Really whacked a different platoon on the other side of the map. Overall really disrupted my whole force.

  7. Just got worked again last night LOL!

Well it was a draw. I need to quit being so damn inpatient. I lose my armo because of that. Also I need to look at the tanks I buy. My mistakes are all small detail mistakes. I can move my infantry fine now with cover support from HMG 42 crews ect ect but I need to envision the battle field better. I placed a 75 AT gun on a hill that unfortunatley did not have the LOS to where the attack came from. My other 75 was knocked out by a Sherman when it was embarked on a tow truck. The shot was meant for my PZ IV but missed and whacked out the to truck and the gun! Ouch! They also dropped the biggest shells I have ever seen on my pooyly placed 75. These thing were friggin huge. They made explosions like I have never seen in this game. And left craters large enough to place 2 squads. Anyways that knocked the gun and a MG crew and a mortar track out with only 6 shots! It also infliced about 6 casualties on a platoon that was 50 meters away!

    Dang!

  8. Go find an old copy of the V4V or World at War series from Atomic. They are corps level where you are the general.

You usually have a few full divisions under you and it is really strategic! They take into account supply lines terrain ect ect.

I loved playing the Velikye Luki battle against the Soviets. Thier poor Infantry units would get cut off so easy and then without supplies I would pound them into submission. With my meager 4 divisions I think I took out around 8 or more Soviet divisions.

  9. However, I can assure you I will have no such luck in the PBEM battle we are having.

In fact, even though you are not aware of it yet, you have already experienced lots of luck in the just two moves or so we have had"

    Oh do tell friend smile.gif

As for what happened to the AC?

Actually it was cool. A Panther G, and two Stugs shot all at once. And the thing blew up into flames.

It was an interesting battle on this stretch of road that left about 23 Allied Armored vehicles shot to hell and 2 schreks, 3 Panthers, a Stug, and 2 Panzer IVs dead.

  10. To my utter horror and everything I know about armor in WWII I watched as a Daimler AC opened up and knocked my Panther G out.

If it was a side or rear shot I would buy it. But the damn thing shot right into the heart of the Panther!

"Assuming you were the British, don't it feel good? I was playing a PBEM the other day and my lone bazooka took out a Panther at 74 meters. Man, it was neat"

Well this battle that was occuring where my Panther was knocked out a Churchill Avre came into town and was knocked out by a side shot from my Schrek team smile.gif

  11. Well depends on where they want to take the game.

I like having large amounts of units also. But to tell you the truth if you had a regiment and a large # of tanks you would be spending lots of time just organizing the reinforements.

I just created a battle where both the Germans and Brits\Americans toped out at about 11,500 points a piece. I had a large amout of points come in for the Germans in 1 reinforment. It was a pain just organizing the units much less enjoying myself. What I would not mind seeing is some kind of online 4 player action for CM2 where lets say you have large maps with a good amount of forces and two players are on each side of the map coordinating attacks ect.....

But maybe that is getting too gamey for this wonderful sim.
