  1. The thing that blows me away in regards to the Chaffee is the damn small size of it.

I have a 1/35th scale model of a Pz II F beside a M-24 Chaffee..and they are *nearly* the same size..but the chaffee is MORE tank :D

Got to hand it to the Yankee engineers and designers..they sure knew how ( eventually ) to design a very good light tank.

  2. Andreas...having looked at the b&w pix of the vehicles captured in Normandy 1944 i am inclined to believe that they appeared in a bi green tone.

The vehicles captured by the US Army belonged to 1.Kp.Pz-Aufklerung-Abt 9 of the 9th pz Division as this was the ONLY unit issued with it on the Western front. Service regulations and time of year would have meant a green over yellow scheme for the summer of 1944.

  3. Marcus..the camouflage book is worth it as it has colour chips of the paint used by the Werhmacht during the war. it also gives a indepth history of german camouflage painting.

The pix you speak of regarding the Luchs are one and the same as that appear in the cammo book...and some b&w pictures of the same vehicle appear in the MOS publication covering the Luchs...this time the setting is a workshop/storage shed in Aberdeen Proving Grounds. ( afaik )

You got some mail btw Marcus smile.gif

  4. Marcu..the book is titled...

"Wehrmacht -Heer - 1939-1945 Camouflage Colours" by Tomas Chory. ISBN is 80-902634-1-0.

It has those same pictures you were talking about ( except no Hummel/Hetzer..but a b&w Brumbär).

The Jagdpanther cammo scheme is for real...red primer with some dunkelgelb and small white stripes. Hiliary Doyle recounted a tale to me in my local model club about Walter Speilberger serving in a vehicle with that colour scheme at the end of the war.

Marcus..by any chance does the book you have give a serial number for the Lynx?

I am asking as i have the Museum Ordanace Special here covering the Luchs and it shows several pix of different Luchs captured by the US Army. A vehicle with the serial number

Fgst.Nr.200131 (APG) appears in a couple of pix and it looks like the same vehicle in the colour pix ( due tothe damage to the middle stowage box )

The Kingtiger cross hatch...you are thinking of a vehicle that served with the sPzAbt 501 on the Russian Front.

As for the different paint conditions..it could be due to the time the photographs were taken......some of them "may" have been cleaned up..while the others had not been sen to.

As to the "light grey" ......anything is possible i suppose Marcus as at that stage of the war things were a bit hectic on the supply side..and the crew may have used what ever was at hand to cammo the Pz IV.

Interesting pix al the same...and i hope it does not give you too much of a head ache figuring out. smile.gif

  5. History Buff..i have the same iBook except i have 640MB of RAM. I have not had any incidents of it "stalling" while playing or making Mods on it with photoshop.

I also have the OS at 9.2.2

it could be a case of just you needing some extra RAM. Below is the company i bought my extra 512MB RAM stick from if you are in the market smile.gif

    web page

never had any problems with this company...product arrives via FedEx.

  6. T4F ;) I have a book covering German Camouflage colours 1939-45 with that same pix in it..only it is facing the other direction smile.gif .

The author identifies the small spots as Dunkelgelb , the wide brown as Brun RAL 8017. He also asserts that the base colour is a "Pale Grey" , and the dark lines that break up the outline so effectively as "Black".

Another point from the author to look out for is the forward turret shield. Starting from its front edge and working back to the first set of latches/hinges the colours run in this order...

    brown/white stripe ?/black stripe/ brown / dunkelgelb spot / white stripe? / black stripe / light grey.

The dunkelgelb colours from that pix look like the "Dunkelgelb nach Muster" ..which was more like the colour you are using on the Pz IV vehicle mod.

As for being a "wartime" cammo scheme...i have a nagging doubt that its a post war repaint due to this.

To the left of the pix you can see the edge of another vehicle. This vehicle is the rear side of a Jagdpanzer IV F. It has a "dunkelgelb" base with very dark crosshatch lines....and spots that look very much like the "light grey" we see on the Pz IV.The same road and fence can be seen in both pix..and you say the pix ar from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds..so i am leaning towards a US repaint to spruce it up.

  7. Frunze....you *may* be confusing the scenario "Wittman , The Early Year's" by Jeff Weatherspoon in which Wittman was in command of some early Stug IIIs( F).

Phil..i powered up the scenario "Wittman in the East" and took a look at the Tiger I models in that scenario. The one's included are the "Mid" production version.....basically the early version ( dish wheels ) but the cupola is the low profile similar to the Panther A/G.

Looking at the unit info for the 13.Kompanie of the LAH ..it seems that they did not receive the Mid version until Feb1944 when they received 5 "low profile cupola" Tigers as replacements for lost kit.

If you are "applying" a new Mod that infact has been made using the "early" bmps ..it wont show up ingame in the Wittman in the East scenario as the bmp numbers corrospond to the Early version..but what you have is the "Mid version" in game.

What you need to do is change the numbers of the mod you want to appear to those that match and are registered for the Mid version of the Tiger.

Some other soul may be able to help ye with the needed bmp numbers.

  8. What was that old poster that used to be up on th walls of every factory / building and street corner..."Talk costs LIVES"...especially DANISH ONES !!!! ;) hehehe

To confirm what my "old" Dansk friend has said..yes..i have begun some work on a M24 Chaffee. It is my first attempt at a Allied mod ( it also happens to be my fav allied vehicle too ). So far....no problems..but there will be one or two that will require a bit of time to overcome.

    web page

So far....all i have done is some general layouts....gun mantle / gun ...lower chassie / forward hull..and some work on the rear deck.

Once again..these are only very early shots..and likely they will change oncei get into the flow of things.

Lately i have not had the energy or will to do any real modding as i have been trying to catch up with friends and family having spent crazy hours in front of my computer.

Theory is though..to try juggle mod work between my Pz II and the M24..switching between the two once i have come to a stop with one or the other.Thats the theory.

Fear not gentlemen.....you will have a new mod of a M24 sometime but only ( WHEN ITS FINISHED ;) ).

    best regards

  9. Zimorodok ...i will have a look later today in my JP mod files..and see if i can root out the basic dunkelgelb JP i used for my CMBO ones. It might be worth a try and a time saver....you may be able to use some of it ( superstructure and rear ) in combination with the CMBB Panther wheels...then do that steel trick and experiment with the colurs to try arrive at a mod that looks "blended".

Only an idea..and if it gets you your JP Mod..all the better smile.gif

  10. Hey Panzermartin .....no offence taken bud smile.gif

As is....there has been some movement "behind the scenes" with other modders , trying to work out a set of "standard" vehicle colours covering the countries that we see in action with the CM series. This is so as to allow various mod makers to at least start off from a common colour point..and hopefully end up with Mods that complement each other( colour cousins ) and not look too out of place.

Due to the various 'styles" we hope that at least the colours will help blend the mods....while still allowing the maker to express his "style".

The colours i tend to use could be said to be "straight out of the pot" so to speak..hence the strenght of them. With these new colour blobs we are trying to agree on..and finally having found out to actually use them i will be converting over to them once i have all my details made.

As is..i am comfortable right now with that "dark yellow" that i use...and i can lighten it.

My recent Luchs mod may get converted to the lighter colours at a later stage....but for now i will just concentrate on the Pz II using the dark yellow..and then converting to the lighter dunkel gelb / panzer grau. I might even do a dual release....one dunkelgelb set based on my dark yellow..so as it will complement the Luchs for mod users who like that look..and the others using the "new" colours.

As a "bit further down the mod footpath" ..... i hope to make a Marder II and Wespe using some of the Pz II chassie...and these wil definately be made using the "new colour blobs"

Glad you like the details..and i will continue to do my best when it comes to CM.

As a foot note.. i provided Kwazy with some very poor / dark photos of my Pz II F 1/35th scale Tamiya model..which he worked wonders on to make the ingame Pz II C/ F tanks. This is just my way of saying ..Sorry for providing crap model pix and giving you all that work smile.gif

    As always..still learning.

    regards

  12. Hi Green Hornet..you can find them here.

    web page

The 5MB pack contains 5 different cammo versions as well as a plain dunkelgelb ( dark yellow ) base variant.

There is also a winter Luchs.

If people are not taken with the way i have weathered them..i will upload the "clean" versions to CM Data base soon and let the MudLovers get on with it smile.gif

As for Vikings.......Remember ..i can get distracted and things could get RUNED even before lift off ;)

  13. Hi All smile.gif

regarding the new Luchs mods now residing at CMHQ..some people may not like them dirty..so i will see about breaking my Duck and have the "clean" versions hosted at the CM Mods Database site. These will NOT be CMMOS enabled when i send them as i am a stinkin Mac user tongue.gif who has not got a clue about that neferious app Gordon The Great created in lieu of world Domination ;)

    regards
