  1. I'll endeavour to do my best to be there as longs as: A) I get home on the trains tonight; My Chinese take-away dosn't give me the trots; C) I get to have a lay in; D) I get to Chelsea on the trains tomorrow. Be nice to see everyone and then perhaps we could go for a urm Chinese.
  2. Oh dear, remnants in last message, the shame of it all.
  3. Hoorah for Forest Hill! Hoorah for Scenario Designers! Hoorah for...errr....HOORAH! Nice to meet everybody last Tuesday, I've since utilised my work's ADSL line and CD-Rewriter technology to download Steel Panthers World at War (can I mention that here?) and Steel Beasts following my esteemed colleagues recomendations.. [i think] I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the CMBO UK contingent, perhaps we should all make name badges: Hi, my name is....and I'm an... Upsetting names but seem like decent games nonetheless.
  4. Any 1st Airborne officionados out there wanting to test a scenario based on the exploits of the remnants of 2 South Staffs, 1, 3 and 11 para as well as the boys of the Light Regiment on the SE extremity of the Oosterbeek perimeter? I'm at the map making stage, but the scenario will eventually revolve around the fighting on either Wednesday 20th or Thursday 21st. I'm getting a request in early so I can bounce the game out to you as so as its ready. Based on extensive field walking and research with original photos, I've tried to make it as accurate AND playable as possible (and all in the best possible taste, of course ). Look forward to hearing from you.
  5. I'm around next week, just noit Tuesday. Promise I won't get myself lost this time!
  6. I'm playing around with a few ideas for these types of scenarios at the moment. Currently, I'm struggling with just the opposite problem: How to formulate an interesting game revolving around a column moving up a road with an enemy trying to disrupt their advance. The way CM is wired at the moment exiting units just isn't rewarded with winning points scores. Similarly, the AI won't interdict the road without VLs, so it looks like I'm going to have to place low value flags along the route. This presents the problem of the column having to detach units to hold onto these flags against the AIs advances, which in this particular scenario, would be an unhistorical alternative My current solution is to provide follow up units sufficiently far behind the main column to be militarily unavailable but capable of securing the flags. I'm going to try a game based on a fighting withdrawal. This will provide less of a problem I feel, but is still an intersting challenge. We'll see.
  7. So there I was, by the sign 20.00 - 20.35. What happened?
  8. Hollien, I take it your in too (although don't promise your G/F this weekend), I don't know how the other chaps stand (although I think I walk funny). So thats me, Hollien and Soddball. Now, anyone else?
  9. Good cop, Bad cop. If we batter you both sides perhaps we'll get a deep fried turn out. SodballturfKent chap, you're in. Any other takers?
  10. HRH Brenda is going to be there? Really? AND I can expect a hand written, water marked invitation...say no more. It dosn't get much better than that. But I take your point, should we be more considerate next time? Possibly. First things first, can I have a roll call of all volunteers. Remember to include your preferred fancy dress costume and whether you like pass-the-parcel. I did mention it would be a fancy dress party didn't I? Me? I adore pass the parcel (as long as I win).
  11. See all you chaps this evening. Andreas - will ring you early evening to confirm (apologies - gone to work and left your number at home. Still 20.30 this evening?
  12. Beer from the States, now we're talking...see you chaps this evening. Perhaps we could lay on 'something for the weekend' nearer Xmas or the release of CMBB? (Am I wrong to equate the two?).
  13. But gentlemen, where is the George? Give me a street and I'll be there a little later, say 20.00
  14. Inspired by the Washington DC gentleman's night out, are there sufficient CMBO players around in London, UK, for a similar event to take place? I'm only mooting the idea since there do seem to a few of us chaps around, although I don't know where we all live. Me, I'm in London so I'll happily buy a round if we can scrape together enough blokes. Let me know - I'll be the chap in the Bobby's Battle Bowler!
  15. Thanks for that Peter (Sudbury Boy!). Those are the books I have already, except for Zwarts armour book (which I ordered the other week). Farley's book is excellent and I've waded through Krafft's copy (which also has some nice maps). We should hook up for a game, two local boys made good .
  16. I'm designing a series of interlinked Battles for CM based on the experiences of a British Airborne Company having been inspired by my positive experiences of the German and American equivalents (I've forgotten those talented authors - apologies - but the US one is entitled 'Any Port in a Storm'). I'm fitting together the first scenaio based upon the route-march into Arnhem along 'Tiger' route. Its a long thin board about a mile in length with a 100ms on either side. The British have to progress from one end to the other. The Germans have to disrupt or prevent this. In lieu of the last post, the research will be founded upon a search of the relevant literature, maps and documents at the Public Record Office, Kew, UK, as well as my own field walking of the area. The idea is for the Allied column to advance quickly but cohesively, utilising a vanguard and a rearguard to tackle the typical problems encountered en route, e.g. incessant sniping, mortar 'stonks' and pockets of organised resistance. The Germans should harass from the flanks and attempt to break up the column. The trick is, how can I best model this for the AI? Should I put VLs on the junctions along the road to encourage the AI to interdict the column or leave it alone, perhaps 'dumping' reinforcements North and South of the road? If VLs are in use I think I'd have to introduce follow up units (in addtion to the Company principally involved) to keep the flags 'live'. Similarly, has anyone had much experience of how many points are accumulated for troops exiting the board - this being a crucial aspect of this scenario - and how effective this really is? Most of this game's points should be won or lost here, not necessarily in the fighting which was not then the historical imperative. Any advice would be gratefully received .
  17. Anyone know how I can contact the guy behind the CM Scenario Depot?
  18. CAn any kind soul help me out? I've downloaded Magua's outstanding Normandy mod. but can't get BMP 1562 to 'work' (its one of the grass mods.). Anyone willing to send me their upgraded copy? Just send it across the mail I'd really appreciate it. Many thanks, Justin.
  19. Where can I get a copy of the v.1.12 upgrade for CM, any kind soul oblige me?
