  1. Or maybe Microsoft put in an admin setting called "Allow Combat Mission multiplayer?" Maybe you've been halted by the Network police. BeWary P.S. I'm just kidding of course, but hey, anything's possible! ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 2. Thanks Schrull. I'll have him try your suggestions. If he gets it working, I'll post here. BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" Make it "Victory or Pretty Damned Badly Wounded", and I'm yours. - a prospective recruit during the American Revolution.
  3. There was a thread a few weeks ago about how tanks won't use Tungsten until they drop below 35 rounds of AP. Don't ask me why. I think it's a bug. If it's a design decision, then I'd be interested to hear the logic behind it. BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 4. A friend of mine is trying to get the demo working on his Sony VAIO PCG-F580 laptop with a NeoMagic MagicMediaT 256XL+ with 6.0 MB SGRAM, AGP, 3D, etc. I've given him a bunch of suggestions already to no avail. I've searched the forums and seen that a lot of others also had problems with NeoMagic cards. Does anyone know how to get rid of the graphic problems with these cards? This is how he describes the problem: "The problem occurs once the scenario starts. The flickering is around the terrain "quadrants" and is more pronounced from the closer camera angles. From high up it just looks like some flickering pixels. Also, and this might just be me, it seems like the flickering gets a little less noticeable after a little while." Thanks! 5. Ok, I just found a program I wrote that immediately responds to keyboard input. Here's a sample of the code: #include <conio.h> char ch; ch=getch(); while(ch!='q') { cout <<ch; ... or whatever you want to do . . . ch=getch(); } Don't know if that'll work in XWindows or Linux, but it works in DOS/Win. 6. Don't know about the patch thing, but I would think you'd both need the same version. Even if it works with 2 different versions, you might experience strange things. No, you don't need the same mods installed. The mods simply modify the pictures and sounds CM uses when run on your local machine. BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 7. I suggest you start out simple and then start calling other methods. For example, are you sure you need to call sync_with_stdio()? Why are you using EOF in your while loop? I've not seen that associated with keyboard input. With the disabling buffering methods, what is the error you're getting when compiling? Perhaps you haven't #included the right files? I've had that happen to me sometimes too. I think some methods are only made to be run on certain platforms. I'll look tonight at my old programs and see how I got it to work. I didn't have a chance last night. BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 8. Ok, I just found the function I think you need to use. It's called getch() or getchar(). It will return the first key in the input stream, so if you put it in a loop, you should be able to achieve your goal of not requiring an <enter> key press. However, I don't know if non-buffered is the correct word to use. I think the buffer is used regardless, as it is a part of the BIOS sub-system. Getch() simply returns a character from that buffer. My copy of Borland is warning not to use this function in Win32 GUI apps, but there's probably something similar available for Win32. Good luck, BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 9. I've done this before, but off-hand I don't remember if it required any special handling. It may require some Assembler commands. I'll check my old programs when I get home tonight and let you know. BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 10. Alright, fine then, I'll post the picture. Maybe that'll make someone say something. ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 11. I just finished the Villers-Bocage Operation, playing as the Allies using v1.12. After the 3rd battle, I got the AAR and map. The map shows that about 6 German vehicles were placed in a field surrounded on all sides by bocage. They had no way to get out, and so were useless during the entire turn, except when I approached the field from the other side of the bocage. It seems that this is probably a bug, as I don't see how the tanks could have gotten in there in the first place. I have a picture if someone would like it. 12. I have a Vortex 1 card, the Montego A3DXstream, and have not had this problem yet. I'll make a note in this thread if it happens to me too. BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 13. Here is a link to his International page. You can find the CD cover in the Mods section under "Goodies". http://home.germany.net/101-77027/CM/International.html You may need to update your browser if you can't see everything on his page. ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 14. Bump... for those of you who have yet to see this. Just keep in mind you'll need an empty jewel case first, though I didn't have too much trouble finding a worthless CD to throw out to make room for my CM CD. ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 15. Ok, so I'm using v1.12, and last night I plotted a Fast move for one of my Cromwell IV's. It had about 13 different waypoints to it, and they were all "fast". Well, the next order's phase after that turn, I see the AI had changed the last 9 or 10 moves into "reverse" moves. The funny thing is, it didn't move the waypoints even a little bit or add any new waypoints. It simply decided to make my tank go in reverse. Strange... Anyone else have this happen to them? Everything else seems to be fine, and even subsequent turns the AI didn't mess with that tanks movement orders. Just that one, bizarre occurrence. And yes, I'm SURE they were ALL "fast" moves when I plotted them. BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 16. Perhaps they were referring to issuing the targeting order at the beginning of the movement. Even if the unit can't see the target, it will usually keep the target for at least a few seconds when the turn starts, and then, according to the manual, it will be more likely to target that object again when that object comes into LOS. 17. My name: Brian Wharry Track coach used to call me: Be Wary Now my motto is: Be Wary of B. Wharry (though in junior high when I couldn't spell, I wrote: Be Weary of B. Wharry, which was probably appropriate considering my social status at the time. ) ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 18. I usually count sitting down, but I haven't noticed a difference if I'm doing other things at the same time, like standing. The results are usually the same. <NOTE - Tongue was firmly planted in cheek during this post> ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 19. Make sure you guys are using v1.12. BTS has supposedly tweaked the Tungsten and smoke usage since 1.0, so these issues should be fixed. BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 20. Ahhh, ok. And since there is no command structure for vehicles, I suppose they would be best used as bait. Sucks to be them, at least with me commanding. Thanks. ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" Make it "Victory or Pretty Damned Badly Wounded", and I'm yours. - a prospective recruit during the American Revolution.
  21. Quick question about the Allied setup of Battle 1. I was looking at what I start with, and I found a Sherman III and a Cromwell VII that showed their ammo supply as "empty". Is this correct? I can't imagine going into battle with no ammo. Are these guys supposed to get resupplied later, or are they just cannon fodder? Thanks, BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" Make it "Victory or Pretty Damned Badly Wounded", and I'm yours. - a prospective recruit during the American Revolution.
  22. Double post, sorry. [This message has been edited by BeWary (edited 02-06-2001).]
  23. Ahhhh, didn't think about that. Thanks Germanboy. Though I'm assuming you meant VT instead of MT? After all, I don't think the Maryland Theatre would have had anything to do with testing artillery rounds in WW2. ** acronym definition provided by www.acronymfinder.com ** ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" 24. Ok, another question about the TRP. How would the batteries know they have pre-calculated the spot correctly without firing a few rounds at it? And if they fired a few at it, wouldn't it alert the incoming enemy when they see big craters right where they plan on going? If I saw that, I might think about taking a different route. I'm just full of questions today. Or am I just plain full of it? ------------------ "Liberty or Death?" Make it "Victory or Pretty Damned Badly Wounded", and I'm yours. - a prospective recruit during the American Revolution.
  25. Thanks for your response Sgt. Fred. That answers my questions. Although, I don't see how adding a "Target Tight" command to CM would suddenly make it Artillery Mission. If it was used regularly, it should probably be modeled. I'm not asking for it in CM, but perhaps in CM2 if appropriate. Now I'm wondering why TRP fire would fall in a tighter circle than normal artillery fire with LOS? It seems from Sgt. Fred's response that they can get more accurate if they want to in a normal firing mission, and I thought the point of a TRP was simply to decrease the time-to-target. So why would a TRP also make for a tighter sheaf? <- my new buzz word for the day Or is a TRP the hidden "Target Tight" command? Just kidding... BeWary ------------------ "Liberty or Death?"
