  1. From the plane freak viewpoint here... German Air Force screwed up well before the war started. They never designed or implemented a good heavy bomber. Their overconfidence in Me 110 bit them in the ass as well. The stupid insistance that EVERY bomber ( including level bomber ) should be capable of DIVE BOMBING basically destroyed every good heavy-long-range bomber program they migth have had. Case in point - Battle of Britain - lost because of lack of range of fighters/lack of heavy bombers and apparent lack of interest by Hitler. Had they taken UK, things would have been much different. Imagine if Luftwaffe was able to field sizable heavy bombardment group in late 1942.. Those Russian factories in Ural would not be so safe. Russian Airforce did not develop any high-altitude interceptors until late 1944... ( probably anticipating following confict with US ) In 1942 - Luftwaffe heavy bombers could have bombed Russia into olivion... but some idiot with divebomber obsesion ( imagine B17 divebombing ) destroyed any such possibility.
  2. Looks there: http://www.hitechcreations.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000686.html Post by Pyro of HitechCreations. Very long and very interesting. Especially conserning the manouverability of tanks.. i myself always though that Shermans were more manervurable then German tanks... i guess i was wrong.. Also, if any of you are interested in WWII air warfare - i suggest checking out the whole site http://www.hitechcreations.com/ It's a small diveloper, like BTS, and they also make an excellent product. ------------------
  3. I remember suggestions that 1.03 would incorporate a TCP/IP realtime play. I don't see that mentioned in the readme file .. can't try it out yet.. ( still at work ;( ) So what's the full story ?
  4. well.. do like i do... marry a profesional musician Classical musician that is She practices about 6 hours a day... that's after school ------------------
  5. Buzzer, the F6F in this game is way overmodeled ------------------

Anyone remembers a game called Conflict Vietnam ? used to love that thing... My 1541 drive had to run for about 30 minutes before it warmed up enough to read anything.. it was hilarious Tape players were faster then that thing..
  7. On the somewhat related problem I'm a Warbirds player as well ( WWII sim ), there is a good bunhc of other WB players here as well.... anyway.. My problem is the fact that when i walk, my right hand is in the proper position in relation to the body, while my left has a thumb pointing towards my leg... kinda like it would look like on the throtlle... ------------------
  8. Never played PBEM - go ahead and set it up and mail it to me. bartek@mindspring.com From the regular scenarios i've played chabonis/all or nothing and the one where lot of shermans get **** kicked out of them on the small map with the city... Not sure what it was called. Just pick one of the others that is somewhat balanced. ------------------
  9. SPOILER x x x x x x x x x x x x I played this scenario first thing as soon as i got full game, being polish and all I managed total victory with full fog of war first time around. How ? Three tank groups. Fireflies in the main group in the middle. Some shermans on left flank ( around the house ) and right flank - by the crossing. First and foremost - take your time. AI likes to put its tanks on the small hill on between the town and exit. Get the artilery observer to the top of the middle hill and bring down the 25 pounders on them. They are usually bunched up nice and tight ( make sure you give AI 8 turns or so ) Once shelling starts - move all three tank groups at the same time, with combined firepower you should be able to decimate them all. I lost 3 tanks total and almost no troops. I got a screenshot somewhere... Once tanks are gone - its just a mop up work.. ------------------
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Mark IV: CM is the coolest game in the world. Could I very politely request that you put SPOILER at the start of scenario-specific information about a certain side's forces in the future? Then put several blank spaces x x x x x ... before starting what you want to say? The reason is that many people are saving scenarios for double-blind play and don't want to know ANYTHING about what the opposing forces might have. There is even a separate forum for discussion of scenario-specific info, though sometimes you need examples to illustrate a point here. Thanks- lots of guys would appreciate this. We prefer to seek our glory or our doom in the grey mists of the unknown. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> My sincere appologies !!! I'm really sorry guys.. i'll edit my original post now...
  11. Edited SPOILER !!!! X X X X X X X Just played All or nothing scenario as Brits.. what a blast... Germany had XXXX and XXXXXXXX, 1 XXXXXXX got whacked when it walked into an ambush of X XXXXXXX ( what a tank too !!! ) XXXXXX and XXXXXXXXXXXXX stayed still too long and caught a bunch of XXXXXX artylery on them... Took a while for a XXXXXXX, but once it hit, it was all over What a scenario... did anyone ever win it as germans ? [This message has been edited by fd ski (edited 07-19-2000).]
  12. Right now we're limited to two players. Nice and dandy but.. Within next few years computers will progress fast enough so that map 10 times the scale of our Huge could be displayed and processed... I can think of nothing cooler then "web based game" where you have 2 teams of 5 guys each. ( Just an example ) One guy on each team is a superme leader and assigns over all goals to others as well as coordinating long range altilery as well as CAS ( close air support ) Other four have let's say one battalion each to command. Every day ( or two, depending on people involved ) person downloads the CMB file from the server, makes his moves and uploads it. ( new featre would have to be added so that upload would only override HIS units. If someone else downloaded before him and uploaded after him, his moves would have been erased. ) Once all players made their moves - Judge or whoever, executes the turn on their machine and posts it as a movie for all to see. THen they do it again... This would be great to community, causing crations of divisions and other types of squads, all competing against each other. Could be doable in real time too, assuming each player has only 10 or less units to move... What do you guys think ? ------------------
  13. Sounds like timesink is some sort of Advatising software that got onto your PC. I remember reading about some other ad software that would slow down your CPU when it connected to net for updates and such. Try this: 1. do alt+ctrl+del and see what processes are running. aside from systray and explorer you shouldn't have much else. Anything with word AD or timesink is probably a source of yuer problem. Select it and hit end task. 2. try deleting then. Try doing it old fashioned way Go to MS-DOS prompt. change dirextory ( cd progr* ) to program files do "deltree TimeSink" and then confirm by hitting Y for yes. be very sure you are in right directory. This cannot be reversed by recycling bin !!! 3. If still shot - try doing full blown defrag and scandisk. Then i would go lurking in registry fo rthing.. but first try things above and let us know if it helped. BTW, i went to that link too, it didn't install anything. What other software did you install recently ? Hope this helps. fd
  14. Let me guess All troops into the forest and shoot US as they cross the field ? Good job getting all teh shermans thou.. they are usually a tough nut to crack with those stags.. ------------------
  15. Like you said Pritzl - it's friday.. get your ass in SL at 10 pm EST tonight.. I'll even join you flying IJN. What is Jg77 up to those days ?
  16. Not to bash the company, but the shipping thing seems little out of whack. Seems like it takes entirely too long for the game to arrive. From my bill i see that they charge in the range of 8$ for shipping. For that price they could have send it second day mail to me and still make profit. Ordered the second day after downloading demo. That was last friday. Still waiting.. ------------------
  17. Hey fenris !!! Pritzl here, buzzer, whole bunch of WB folk... Who would have thought.. Should we start the discussioins by 190F vs Tempest argument ? PS. Checked my account.. it says pending/subject to verification.. so i guess they pulled the money... The wait is killing me !!!
  18. Ordered last friday... Checking my mailbox everyday with hope.. nothing.. ;( Oh how long will this misery last ? My wife is in europe for another month and everyday after 3pm is my time And yet one game i want isn't here... I'm only about 300 miles from their HQ. Maybe i should have just drove there ? How long did you guys wait for your full copy of CM ? ------------------
  19. Crapgame ? You wouldn't happend to fly WB to, would you ? JG70 Hell's aces ?
  20. thanks for replies guys... I'll do more research once i have a full disc. As for pillbox in Valley - playing US i managed to take it out in 3 shots. Luck i guess. Putting two initial tanks on top of the high hill does pay off. They also manage to ususally take care off the panther once it arrives. Hey Buzzer, i still fly WB, AH and will WWIIOL. Since i lead the wing in WB, i can't just leave. But strategy games have always been my thing, ever since Conflict Vietnam on C64 and Market Garden on Spectrum... long long time ago. BTW, anyone here plays V4V series ? ------------------
  21. New to the game... played Demo for something like 10 hours won both with both sides... eagerly awaiting full version in my mailbox soon. Here are some problems i've noticed: - German mortars ( i didn't notice Allied ones doing this ) - you assign them a valid mission to lay down smoke in a very important place - next thing you know - they are playing mortar duel with allied unit all the way across the map. I guess they are responding to the attack - but if they were given the order and they are not threatened in "i'm 3 meters from you and i'll shoot you soon" fashion - shouldn't they carry it out ? - hiding - in trouble Valley, trying to play a good defensive battle, to get allied infantry in the kill zones, and wouldn't you know it, most of my units start firing at the extreem ranges as soon as they notice something - thereby giving away they positions. I've noticed that when computer played that battle as germans - some of his units wouldn't attack till point blank range. Any ideas ? Thanks a lot guys. I see some Warbirds type here.. hey pritzl Long time no see..
