  1. As you all might have noticed the ASL2CM site has been closed down some days ago. I decided to take this drastic move for a number of reasons. The most important one is that the site contained material that is copyrighted. Hasbro is the copyrightholder of it and they are not pleased to see the spreading of their material in that way. This issue has been brought up before and I have tried to change the site to not violate this. The problem has however remained. Now other things of personal nature did sped up my decision to do something about it, and it turned out this way. With a little hindsight I would have done it differently, I know that now. The site expanded beyond what I could have imagined it could have done. I've read that there is a wish or plans for republishing the battles on the net. I however fear that spreading them further might hit back on the community, MMP, BTS or whoever publish them. One could have differing opinions about that, but the fact remains that the situation has changed. The ones who own the original material has reacted. I suppose that it's perfectly legal to convert a board at home and do whatever one wish with it, but publishing it over the net is another thing. ASL scenarios is for many nostalgia and thesedays look like abandoned material but definitely is not. MMP is publishing it and taking the game ahead and even publish new material. Combat Mission is following it's own path and despite their similarity they are very different games. I of course hope they will both flourish, but the combination just didn't work. Thanks for the help I've got from everyone with everything, it has definitely been a fun period. I've learnt alot along the way, not least about scenario designing and webmastering. Now I will move on to whatever endeavours lie ahead. Col. Klotz
  2. Yeah, that's correct. But I have had help on some of them when I started all this when CM was released many moons ago Also, thanks to all those ASL scenario converters out there, great work!! There are now well over 50 scenarios converted. Col. Klotz
  3. The ASL/CM site has been updated and I have added some Market-Garden scenarios from ASL Annual '91. They are a series of battles that should be played as a campaign in head-to-head games. I've converted the campaign rules there as well. The total campaign consists of 7 scenarios and so far the first 3 are ready. The rest is close to be finished. For those who haven't been there in a while: there's a LOT of new scenarios online. Go take a look and give them a try! For anyone having opinions about TCP/IP online play there's a new poll as well! http://www.asl2cm.com Col. Klotz
  4. The database is online NOW! It has been reorganized and display all the data in less space and the pictures show up right in Excel! I'm sure the 1.04 data will be in there soon and can easily imagine the tremendous time and work to update it. Great work Guachi! Welcome and download it at: http://asl2cm.cjb.net/ Col. Klotz
  5. Download the database that Guachi is working on. It's in Excel format and includes every little detail of the units. It even includes pictures of the units. Also two new scenario submissions added today: Close Order Driel: An SS assault on Polish Airborne in Driel, Holland. Regalbuto Ridge: A meeting engagement of British and German forces in Italy '43. All found at: http://asl2cm.cjb.net/ Enjoy! Col. Klotz
  6. I'd say I've never seen a game as close (or better) as this. When I started to make the geomorphic maps and scenarios I was amazed at how similar they became to the original. Now I just can't stop converting these maps. I'm addicted. Take a look here if you haven't been there: http://asl2cm.cjb.net/ Col. Klotz
  7. Yeah, quite another dimension when they are "real size". I hope you don't setup any infantry inside that factory, because they'll never get out Col. Klotz
  8. OK, new zip upped. Klink, Schultz and the others ready for action. For the ASLers and others, take look at this Hogan scenario: http://home.earthlink.net/~brianwilliams/ Col.Klotz
  9. It's not ASL, but it's fun. I've put 58 commander pictures made by SinPoet on the site. Replace those boring standard pictures with some known faces from movies such as Kelley's Heroes, A Bridge too Far, Saving Private Ryan and more. Get them at: http://asl2cm.cjb.net/ and at the same time grab some converted ASL scenarios. Col. Klotz
  10. Today I have added a new scenario. Lt. John Dolan is faced by obsolete French tanks near La Fiere. It's no better place to die. Go get it at: http://asl2cm.cjb.net/ Col. Klotz
  11. As Freebox is having trouble I've switched to a new, and I hope permanent home. http://asl2cm.cjb.net Also, check out the two new scenarios added yesterday. Col. Klotz
  12. I think the problem in "Buchholz Station" is that it is a meeting engagement AND a breakthrough. The Germans are also in minority which further makes it difficult. I think you're right Chrisl. The Germans should head for the village. I tweaked it like this: I placed a flag in the road junction north of the village to make the German AI go for a western route. Also I increased the experience for the Germans and decreased it for the Americans. This also reflect the shock of being surprised. The Germans were surprised too but they were already on the move and probably more alerted. Col. Klotz
  13. Thanks! I hope there'll be even more scenarios out there soon. A great thing about CM is that it works very well both for large coy/btn operations and small skirmishes/encounters. If you have any problems downloading the files try right clicking and "Save as.." Also note that Netscape is known for sometimes corrupting files that are not zipped. Maybe I'll put zips as an option. Col. Klotz [This message has been edited by Col. Klotz (edited 07-23-2000).]
  14. Gentlemen! There are now a total of 9 battles available, all based on scenarios from varying sources of SL and ASL. Most of them are small and intense. Two new were added today. Also the map section were updated with the first historical map. You'll find them at: http://www.freebox.com/asl2cm/ Col. Klotz
  15. *** SPOILER *** < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < First, this is a submitted scenario, I haven't designed it. However I believe it's true to the original. According to the original victory conditions, the side with less losses than the other wins OR if the Germans exit 7 squads off the southern edge (there is an exitzone on the southern side for the germans) When I played it now, I got contact with the Germans on turn 4 (I just moved the trucks away and scouted east with the jeep). I hid my left flank platoons and soon they opened fire when the Germans crossed the road. Total slaughter ensued and I won by 99 to 1. A flag in the village perhaps will make the Germans more determined and inventive, but they still have a long way to go there if following the original setup. I believe this to be a general problem with the conversions from ASL/SL. You know the approaches of the enemy or positions of the defenders and can change plans accordingly in SL. This is not (and should not) be possible in CM. I guess this show up more in some scenarios. I still think it's challenging in PBEM (if the setup is known, ie. both have the original scenario) and as the German vs AI, but not as the American vs the AI. IMHO. Col. 16. Now there are not just maps on the site, but scenarios as well. Three SL/ASL scenarios submitted yesterday are up for some fighting, real good ones as well. Even more are on the way. Two Squad Leader classics: # 7 "The Bitche Salient" # 8 "Buchholz Station" and also one from ASL: RP 7 "Fire and Rain" Drop by: http://www.freebox.com/asl2cm and pick them up. Sniperscope: King's Castle is on the way, hopefully tomorrow, maybe friday. Col. Klotz
  17. If you're looking for original ASL stuff, ASL Crossroads might be what you're looking for? They have a collection of PDF scenarios. http://www.tigertank.com/aslcrossroads Official Avalon Hill and third party scenarios and modules are sold at MMP's site. http://www.advancedsquadleader.com Col. Klotz
  18. Thanks Epee! That's an interesting scenario you found. I just found it and now remember how odd victory conditions it has, that's a tough one I guess. The scenario on the other side is interesting as well "The Puma Prowls"; well I guess that one have to wait for CM2 I surely like to play that "Gavin Take" again. 19. Thanks guys, I agree these maps bring memories back. I really hope for maps to be saved in separate files, I know I'm repeating myself here, but it would make it possible to use these homemade maps in Quickbattles and possibly making it easier combining them. I'm not sure about the the golfer, it seems to use some kind of low velocity indirect fire, very similar to a mortar. It also have a very high hit probabilty on bunkers Col Klotz
  20. Manx, Please check that link. I seems the Pommes Frites scen is pointing to the Foy-Notre Dam.zip. By the screenshot that map looks real nice. Col.Klotz
  21. I start up a new thread here so that not anyone is wondering were all the converted ASL maps are The map collection is growing and since last weekend they have now become 7 and the latest ones are #1 the city and #8 the second mountainous river map. Also I've added some tips and tricks to the design notes that hopefully will grow into a tutorial for ASL map conversion. Also I have plans for doing some scenarios based on these maps. If anyone makes a scenario on these maps or ones made larger or otherwise modified I'll be happy putting it on the site. It would make a nice addition to the maps. Check it out .. http://www.freebox.com/asl2cm/ have fun! Col. Klotz
  22. You are quick Sniperscope! I was going here to announce the changes. I just finished a test scenario in map 8. I wanted to test the sturdiness of the castle so I bought one of those 14 in. naval. Need I say that most of the castle were gone after the first spotting rounds. That's not artillery, it's nukes. I'll check into making a word doc. It shouldn't be any problems, but one never knows. Again, thanks and have fun with the maps. Col. Klotz
