  1. ...takes off devil's advocate hat and replaces it with fantasy scenario sombrero... Hmmm, Dragoon doesn't land in the French Riviera, but instead lands along the Yugoslav coast, with limited support from Tito's partisans. At the same time the Russians drive into Romania & Bulgaria. German forces in Greece suddenly realize they all have a dentist appointment in Hamburg. Still, I can see Michael's point about the Russians not being too keen on this scenario. By now Stalin is thinking less of crushing the Germans, and more on gobbling up as much of Europe as possible. Dropping an allied army into what he considers his turf would have brought about some unpleasant encounters.
  2. I am converting Wild Bill's ROW I scenarios to CMAK, and 'Crisis at Kommersheidt' is one of them.
  3. It doesn't? I thought the Achilles was a Wolverine armed with a 17pdr. At least thats how BFC has it modeled. Maybe you are thinking of the Archer.
  4. I've uploaded another scenario to the proving grounds. This one is smaller, about 800+ points per side, 35 turns. It is a semi-historical depiction of the 2nd assault on St. Efletz in the Crozon peninsula. Special thanks to Dandelion for his help with the German OOB.
  5. ...dons devil's advocate hat... Hmm, that seems a rather odd strategy to this arm-chair general. Why secure a port that is literally a thousand miles away from the main action? But could those forces really do much mischief? There was only one panzer division in the south of France when Op dragoon kicked off. The ones in Normandy were either already destroyed at Falasie or squeezing through the bottleneck - sans equipment. OKW would have been screaming for the forces in the south to head for the border, not play tag with Patton's spearheads somewhere west of Orleans. But by destroying them you a) force them to commit other units to the theater, forces that would have to be either withdrawn from the two fronts, or from reserves in the interior, and free up several veteran allied units for service in the west. No doubt it would have been difficult, but lets assume that this manuever forces the Germans to retreat into the Italian Alps. You've now pushed them several hundred miles north, and at less of a cost. You also still retain the option of releasing the Dragoon forces to assist in NWE. Good point there. It would be a tough sell to get them to head back into Italy when they've already liberated a good chunk of their own soil.
  6. One of those 'What if' scenarios to kick around. Suppose you were in charge of Op Dragoon's post-invasion planning and execution. Would you stick with the original plan - that of exploitation up the Rhone valley and eventual linkup with the Allied armies in Normandy, or would you turn east and threaten the LOCs of the German armies in Italy?
  7. Excellent! Very much appreciated. As always you've been a big help. I took a look inside Feldgrau to see what additional info I could find on the 343rd ID. Not much there, but I did find something odd. According to the site there were two soldiers that were awarded the Knight's cross, both within days of the destruction of the division. According to the site, both are listed as 'Chef'. Am I reading this right? Heroic last stand armed with a meat cleaver and spatula? Or did they whip up an exceptional pot of Sauerbratan?
  8. This being the peninsula that is southeast of the port city of Brest. What I need to know is what German units were there during the fighting in early / mid September. I know that most of the 2nd FJ div was in Brest, but did part defend the Crozon as well? Any other units?
  9. mPisi, I do not have a score for your game vs Redwolf in 'South of Vevi'. Please e-mail it to me. Thanks, Sergio
  10. I am assuming that in addition to daytime you also chose clear for your weather. If so, I would suggest you post your problem over at the tech forum, and if possible include a screenshot. Also include your system specs, as well as whatever driver version you are currently running for your v-card.

  12. Another example of best to worst is the Japanese 1st air fleet, who went from undisputed masters of the Pacific to sacrificial bait in a little over 2 years. In fact, the real transformation happened overnight, or to be more accurate over the course of one afternoon.
  13. No one said that the Tigers destroyed that many Allied tanks in Normandy. It just states that for every destroyed Tiger, there were 33 destroyed Allied tanks destroyed by Tigers.[/QB]</font>
  14. Could it be the mantlet + turret armor? Just a wild guess. I know the Mark VII and VIIIs list their turret fronts at 152mm (almost 6 inches).
  15. Alt-S will allow you to save. Tung is short for Tungsten, which is an AP round with increased penetration capability.
  16. You are correct. This site shows the number of runners for each Abteilungen. Mid / late July looks like the peak with about 50-60 tanks in front line service.
  17. You have to read the original post. It said "Tigers written off". Which I assume means lost in combat due to enemy tank fire. I'm sure many were abandoned (lack of fuel or replaceable parts) or destroyed by allied air power before even reaching the front. </font>
  18. Doesn't sound right to me. Total Tiger I production was around 1300 vehicles. If that ratio is true then that means that they alone accounted for 43,000 allied tanks.
  19. Just uploaded 'About Face - #3' to the proving grounds. This is the third and final scenario to my About face series, and has been long overdue. Huge in size (+9000 points combined), 75 turns, semi-historical. It depicts the battle for Besquelan and Lananneyen on August 9th, 1944. Units involved are CCB, US 6th armoed division vs the reinforced 2nd battalion / 899th regiment / 266th infantry division. [ May 16, 2004, 08:45 PM: Message edited by: Kingfish ]
