Errr... does this mean I'll have to swap in a new texture set for winter camo'd vehicles when I want to play a winter scenario?

Excellent points, Spook. But you know, don't you, that when such a question is asked, only subjective replies will be given?

That is truly bizarre. Infantry has it nailed though. With luck they'll flame it before it starts brewing you up.
I think what you've done here raises the whole AAR concept to a new level. I hope we can expect to see more live replays.

(sniff).... I've been here for months and I've never been penged. I feel so.... unimportant (deliberately provocative use of smiley).
On the other hand, my sycophantic nature makes me agree with everything he says, so maybe I never earned it. When Peng sez to run with that crate of MG42s and 500 lbs of ammo, I RUN dammit

Ah, found it: Article VI, Clause 2:

quote:
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

Essentially, this clause negated all the other guarantees and protections to States' Rights that were carefully written into the earlier articles to the Constitution. Translated into layman's terms it means that any law passed by the Federal Government takes precedence over any State laws. Needless to say, this was a cause of concern to slaveholders.
There are no specific provisions for secession in the Constitution. The earlier Articles of Confederation of the thirteen colonies specifically referred to a "Perpetual Union", however, at that time they were in fact thirteen independent nations with their own governments, currencies, &c. (Each of them signed their own treaty of peace with Great Britain.)
Unfortunately for them, by entering into the Constitution they unwittingly signed away the independence so dearly won only a few years before.
Lorak: Oh yeah, baby, the CSS Hunley is a must.

I always liked "The War for Southern Independence" myself
There was also that famous supremacy clause which the Unionists seized on as legal justification for forcing the States to adhere to the Federal line.
A modern-day secessionist summed it up best: "If the Federal Government wants a supremacy clause, why not re-write the Constitution to read: 'The Federal Government can do anything it wants!' Then it's real easy and not open to misinterpretation."
EDIT: You forgot to mention The Philipines, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, Wake, Midway, Panama... Oops. Guess those weren't colonies.

Two words: Airborne Delivery.
Are you really going to use gas on someone who can turn around and drop it on your cities?

Any information on these carriers is welcome.

Just to flesh it out a bit, they are called Universal Carriers (various marks).
There was a carrier platoon organic to the HQ of every rifle battalion at least. I don't have my sources handy, so I don't know if any were attached at company level.

Oh, Lorak. Now we're in for it...
Not being American, what I find humourous is that Rebellion against Great Britain was "right and good" and whose practitioners called themselves "Patriots," while Rebellion against Washington was treason.

But those Generals were sacked. Perhaps I should have said military incompetence in senior officers only happens once. How long was Monty around? (Rhetorical question -- no answers expected).

It's hopeless. No matter how many volumes are written which illustrate the vastness, the complexity, of even the simplest, most basic aspects of history, there will always be those who can only see things in a cut and dried way. They just cannot conceive that there might be more to the story.
Real military incompetence above junior officers is extremely rare, but it's much easier to just slag generals, isn't it?
Perhaps our friend should step into the shoes of Monty and see how well he does against a couple of SS Divisions.

if it was Goering's smilie, it would necessarily have to be a gold ritter-smilie, with swords, diamonds, and oak leaf cluster, suitably adorned with eagle's wings.

And one more note on "Old Ironsides": Her ribs were only half as far apart as in other British frigates of her day, or, put another way, she had twice as many as would be expected in a ship of her class. Another reason why enemy cannonballs would literally bounce off her.
Steam powered Rams (ironclad ones too) saw widespread use in the ACW. Just another reason it would take a true 3D game engine to properly simulate them.

So do I. I'm currently helping a friend with some archival research for his 1812 game, but once that's done I think I'll tackle it. One of the advantages is that given the comparatively small size of the fleets engaged, a hell of a lot of 3D can go into it without disrupting performance. I fairly drool at the possibility of running a gunboat up the Yazoo or Mississippi, not quite knowing where the sandbars are, while some Yankee peckerhead with a 10 inch Rodman messes up my giltwork
Other than being 3D, I don't think it needs to be like CM, but credit where it's due: They have shown the way...
