  1. I am using a P2 450 128 megs of ram and a 12 meg Voodoo 2 card. I am running Direct X 7. I have installed the latest patch 1.01. And I tried changing my desktop down to 800x600 (didnt work). When there is an explosion now all I see are psychadelic colors that are transparent. I was thinking this could be Direct x 7 problem? Any ideas. I wish I could post a picture but I havent been able to capture it.
  2. It is reported that in July of 1944, commander of 3rd company of schwere Panzer Abteilungen 506, Captain Wakker, destroyed Soviet T-34 at the range of 3900 meters. "Achtung Panzer" Anyone here have accuracy of a Panther or Tiger II as compared to a Tiger 1?
  3. First off Tiger tanks were not in service in '41 (Middle/Late '42). And the Tiger tank was mainly a defensive tank due to the slow maximum crusing speed and flank speed. And the accuracy on the early Tiger 1 (Which is what I am guessing you are using...you might want to state exactly what version of tiger you are using.) 88 gun was not very good as compared to the Panther or the later Tiger counterparts. Heiz was drunk when he decided that a Tiger raised on its side would make a much better firing platform. [This message has been edited by V B (edited 06-18-2000).]
  4. Muhahah Madmatt you should be nice to the rest of us. You see now that CM is like (1 day away!) Most of us out there are going to be modding like madmen to get out graphics and sound packs. So you better release yours before anyone else does (Like me ). So hurry up already, snail.
  5. Ok well I am looking for ladder PBEM challengers, anyone up for it until we get retail? chackney@mediaone.net
  6. Ni How, It is all based on the map positioning. When it says 60 to 30 etc. you most likely do not control all the map assets. CE for example. If you controled the entire map other than the hill you would get around 70 to 80%. But they control the hill. ANd if you are vieing for a position and 2 players are on 1 flag the points are not distributed such as total control. Force profiency is quite important and haveing a 10% chance of victory still means that that it can be accomplished with your current force as compared to your adversary. It is somewhere along these lines. I wouldnt consider that victory factor at teh bottom of the screen as solid fact though. Zatyah
  7. I believe that would take the fun out of the tactical aspect of the game. Just slightly As I remember the Axis and Allies used very little gas in the war(Im sure some was used here and there, especially in the Russian front). The world still remembers the horror mustard gas was during WW1 and many countries established a doctrine banning the tactical use of gas in combat. (anyone have information on this, which contries was it? I am too lazy to look this up). I do know that the development of tactical gas accelerated after the 2nd WW, during the Cold War. Otherwise the CM battlefields are too small to support gas.
  8. Matt what kind of system do you use and what sort of loss of frame rate do you notice (if any). It looks quite good.
  9. Once again you just spurted off before reading the entire paragraph. I simply said that CM would be most welcome to arrive on the day it started in the actual world (D-day/BO). Now I am not one to point out ignorance but the fact that you (and others) instantly criticise CC games (I metioned 1-3, hence "Trilogy") based on someone sole opinion (I doubt I am the only one that enjoys these series of games) through group mentality. Well well...simply put since you believe most people on this board dislike CC so do you (and others I believe). Albet this is common for everyone. "In my opinion!" I enjoy CC games and if you enjoy a great series of game (once again in my opinion) then please consider giving these 3 great games a shot for the low price of 21.90 with shipping. Pretty damn cheap for three games "I ENJOY". There are you happy now? [This message has been edited by V B (edited 06-06-2000).]
  10. Well June 6th is here once again marking a grand day in the history of the world. I was thinking about this. Now what are the chances...of you guys at BTS releasing CM the same date that the beginning of the war game is set in? (8th was it?). Wishful thinking at its fullest. FYI for anyone looking for a cheap, cheap! Set of games to hold you over until CM check out the Close Combat Trilogy at ebworld.com for only 20$. All three of these games were great and still are. So check it out, they are worth it.
  11. First off a sub that was that large lacked the ability to go evasive as comapred to a normal attack sub. Which is what I basically said. And they didnt have 50 air capable subs at any one point during the war and the air craft they carried were not armed for combat most of the time (excluding the light bombers). Notice how many subs the Japanese lost of these classes and tell me that the recon element was worth the cost. Check out this site for any information about the jap navy at the time. Imp. 12. PLayers have different opinions about how they like or dislike a scenario. The good thing about having set reviewers is that you can have players reviewers aswell. So you can use both One established that does the historical research and one that judges the likeness factor.
  13. The Japanese had subs with spring loaded recon aircraft. But it was either a one way trip (and/or) the plane would be able to land on the water and restock on the sub itself. But the few subs that acctually used this lost mobility and most of its actions were restricked due to this lack of mobility. And other nations at the time used this same technique. Not much new here.
  14. This is news that you would find in the Weekly World News. I for one know that USAF instructors trained the Israeli crews to train their pilots. I also know that joint exercises have not been done on a large scale. The survivability rate of that f15 is beyond off. Half of the things you mentioned you can find in propaganda mags. You can shoot down just about any helo with a AK-47 due to the amount of critical areas every helo has. (Even a mi-24E with the thick armor). Some of that on there is true. Germans did start development of prototypes ATGMs. ASMs have been around since WW1, they are called rockets. In WW2 they packed a rockets with tons of explosives and it would skip across the water like a sea shell. Of course this 15% effective and never saw wide use (it would detonate as soon as it hit the water 90% of the time). Anti Stealth radar is not in wide use yet and only a few countries have started development on the system itself (it is not very effective as of yet). Russian Su-35 is a shoot and scoot version of the Su-27. The drag and wing area of the limits the manuverability compared to the agile F-22. (Still a Su-27 is Fore control fins and a larger wing span). The sub aircraft carrier did not exist. It was USN myth. Wars have included explosive soldiers with explosives strapped on them since 1400's around that period. Maikop was a war zone for many battles between Soviet and german. Belgrade at the time during WW2 was under attack by rebel soldiers (IRA equivaliant) and Germany did infact have communication with these soldiers but Belgrade was never taken by any German soldiers. Just thought I would include some of my past education with some of these prop. myths.
  15. No, 2 guys can handle whatever you throw
  16. Its easier to have 1 or 2 people review all scenarios then to have everyone do reviews. If you have one or two people reviewing they set a benchmark for other scenarios and fellow players can place thier beliefs on the greatness (or suckness) of the scenario due to the single reviewers constant exposure. If you folks out there are serious about having a review site I would be happy to organize with help from one or two fellow "dedicated" CM commanders.
  17. I agree with the flares issue. I mean is there not some way this could be added as a dynamix light source? Does CM use the dynamic light sourceing? I mean a simple small cylinder that provides area light (can be used like a art strike or air strike). I know this has been discussed. Otherwise I was wondering if you guys at BTS were going to add landing craft? Immobile structures? FOr us scenario designers out there. Anyhow. Thanks for any response that can be included.
  18. Dubious companies out there (Ion Storm) Who profit from namesake really do tend to hurt the game market reguardless of quality of product. And believe me, I am not saying that CM is NOT worth the money being dished out but the amount of software that is approaching games makes a unique little cold war in the games industry. I personally cannot afford to spend 45$ for many games. CM is one of the few. But truth be told, if I had to chose between a game such as CM 2/3/4 and one such as WW2Online. I would shift my earnings from purchasing something that I play quite often (CM) to something new and original that is really making an amazing attempt for a small company (WWIIOnline). I would have to purchase WW2Online. This is just an example of my way of thinking about how to wisely purchase my next few weeks of computer entertainment. I really do hope Big Time gets well established after CM does get released (Tac Ops did it for me guys, loved it and still do, even though Op. Art of War is taking up the same diskspace). Fortunately CM will be a game like Steel Panthers, never forgotten with an eternal place on my harddrive (Thank you Matrix). But I cannot see paying 45+ dollars for 4 games in a series. Much like Talonsoft, I will buy one Op. Art Game and they will release a new and improved Elite edition(This totally pushes my buttons) of the same basic engine with improvements. Now being a consumer, my suggestion to Big Time would be to offer a rebate to previous buyers of CM for CM 2 (20$?) and so on. Just a suggestion. But I really do base my purchases, like many others out there, on priority and originality. That is why I eagerly purchased Combat Mission without even considering what else is out there to buy.
  19. I was wondering, since the CM engine has been established and the next few installments are going to use the same basic engine. I was wondering what the price range would be for the next few versions. I am not a rich guy by any means. Even though I put a preorder down for CM some time ago I was wondering if I would have to pay 40+ for the next few installments. Love the game, love the design, can't wait until you folks ship it out.
