  1. Buy it. CM has saved me lots of money, I used to buy at least one game a month and at least two games magazines now I buy none. Lets figure this out. 1 Games @ $60 = 60 2 Magazines @ $10 = 20 Thats $80 per month. I have had CM since the first Canadian shipment arrived, I think it is 4 Months ago. 4 Months X $80= $320 plus 7%GST/8%PST = $368 Cost of CM (I paid)= $79 Total Savings: 368 - 79 = $289 That's not including all the weekends I never went anywhere cause I stayed home playing CM. One unforeseen expense (this only applies if your married) if you play too much CM your wife might leave you which will end up costing you half of everything you own.
  2. Hi All, Now with the price drop on the Voodoo 5 5500 it has motivated me to buy a new videocard. I currently have an Elsa TNT2 AGP video card my CPU is an Athlon 750 with 128MB Ram. I play CM at 1280 X 1024 the same as my windows desktop. Here are my options based on the $ I want to spend: 1. Voodoo 5 5500 64MB 2. GEFORCE 2 GTS 32MB 3. GEFORCE 2 MX 32MB and 128MB more RAM. Which solution whould be the best solution. I am interested in #1 visual beauty ,#2 speed. Other game support doesn't matter. CM is my addiction. Thanks for any responses.
  3. I sent you an email. Would definitely be interested in a game of CM.
  4. It must all us CM'rs checking your site 10 times a day to see if there is any new updates.
  5. Hi Everyone: How about the Voodoo 4 4500 has anyone tried that yet it's the "lite" version of the voodoo 5 5500 it can do 2X fsaa? I'm kinda looking at this card cause it's half the price of the 5500.
  6. BTW what is the farthest you have seen a sniper hit a target? I had one sniper take out a tank commander at 550 meters.
  7. Did you change the password? I keep getting rejected. I'm using WS-FTP Pro.
  8. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Quango: So I see I notice that some don't take the time to read my points and just jump in to make that 'too complex' argument. Imagine if AoE was turn based!! It would have remained a niche product.. which is what I suspect CM will probably be. Still, as I've said in other posts, is BF don't do it, someone else will! <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> CM is a niche product. A game written for serious wargamers by serious wargamers. It is the brilliant programming of Charles and Steve that makes CM also very playable by anyone (a nice side effect). Consoles like Playstation 2 and X-Box are making many game developers forget about the PC and it will be niche products like CM that will be left to play on the PC. I have always prefered PC games for their depth and intelligence over consoles. To me console games vs PC games are like comparing the movie End of Days to the Exorcist. Shallow in comparison. CC3D by the way will make an excellent X-Box game. Microsoft is probably already trying to buy Atomic.
  9. Let me clarify things for everyone. I started this thread because I noticed that when tanks catastrophically exploded not everyone died. I saw no crew exit the tank. I’m sure everyone has seen this happen. So I started testing to see how CM models casualties. I wanted to see if CM actually figured out deaths by roughly dividing wounded by a factor of four or if there was a more complex method. I know that in modern conflicts and CM that at the end of the battle roughly 25% of the casualties are dead. Mannheim Tanker answered this for me by pointing out that the answer is in the manual. I have checked out the weight of a 14” shell it is 1500 lbs of which 150 to 200 of it is a steel penetrator to punch through a ships plate. However I couldn’t find the HE weight. http://www.warships1.com/Weapons/WNUS_14-50_mk11.htm As for the king tiger getting tossed I just recently read that in a book. Which book? I can’t remember, possibly Steel Inferno by Michael Reynolds. quote: Thirty of these in a 10 second period should kill more than 70 men. Michael Emrys wrote: How do you know? You're speculating aren't you? On what grounds? In the fact that your in a collapsing multistory heavy stone building with 20000lbs+ of HE exploding around you. Or are you just hoping to find some über-weapon? As for an Uberweapon who needs a 14” Naval Gun when you can use 100 MG Jeeps
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Spook: Out of curiosity, Dienekes, what was the total manpower of the German battalion in your survey? How were they deployed? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> There was 391 men in the battalion. The men were jammed into 5 buildings. I also tested putting the men on concrete with no cover resulting in 391 casualties (everyone) and 78 wounded. If you want I can email you the scenario.
  11. I totally see your point. From now on I'll phrase my titles more carefully. Thanks for the suggestion. Chris
  12. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dan Weaver: I've seen instances where the ratio of dead to total casualties was as low as 1:10. I've also seen instances where the ratio was as high as 1:2. It's all very much in the luck of the bullet. Dan<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> The luck of the bullet is exactly what I was trying to find out if CM modeled. Thanks Mannheim Tanker for the answer to my question. The manual is to obvious a place to look for an answer To David Aitken, Relax take a couple deep breaths. Play a little Quake or Doom to calm your nerves. You see in my first post how I feel about CM. I'm open to your opinions just don't be so snotty.
  13. To clarify what I want to know is CM calculating deaths in detail or is it dividing the number of casualties by four. I curious to see if it is taking into account the lethality of the weapon involved into the calculation. ie. Hit in the chest by a pistol round or hit in the chest by a 20mm cannon round which would hurt more
  14. Yes I know of Monte Cassino and they weren't being hit by block buster 14 inch rounds. These could launch king tigers 100 feet in the air. Thirty of these in a 10 second period should kill more than 70 men. But then again what does it matter it's just a test anyway. I'm just curious on how deaths are modeled in CM. The brew up I am talking about is the one that is really loud and really big were no one gets out. It usually only happens when a powerful gun panther 75 or tiger 88 smokes a sherman or weak armoured vehicle. If you haven't notice then watch for it next time you play.
  15. The games I play are: 1. Combat Mission 2. Combat Mission 3. Combat Mission I have bought over 50 games the last few years and Combat Mission is the only game I have installed on my computer.
  16. I find not enough men are listed as killed in a lot of scenarios. I know it's not like in the movies where is one shot and your dead. But I ran a few tests 1. A town with a battalion of Heer in the center with 10 U.S. 14 inch spotters and a target reference point in the middle of the Heer. Destroyed every building in the center of town. Very concentrated pattern (basically on top of each other). Results of 3 Trys No of Barrages=B Casualties=C Killed=K Test1 B:1 C:348 K:70 Test2 B:1 C:378 K:76 Test3 B:2 C:370 K:74 Shouldn't there be more dead guys. I've also noticed with tanks when they do the big brewup, where no one escapes the burning tanks. Sometimes only 1 or 2 men are killed. Shouldn't they all be dead. CM is still the greatest game ever made. It has made all my other games redundant. Why waste my time time playing them when I could be playing CM.
  17. I think every post I ever made has at least one mistake in it. I refer to the cost of rounds being more expensive in Canada so .308/ 7.62 Nato is recommended. Probably the rifle is to knowing Canada and our gun policies.
  18. The Steyr SBS Prohunter is a very good rifle. It is available in .308/ 7.62 Nato which is what I recommend do to cost of rounds. In Canada is much more expensive then the U.S. Here is a link to a distributor. http://www.gsifirearms.com/index.html There is another rifle the Steyr Scout which is sniper rifle but lots of $$$. The Prohunter has many similar features. I can't remember the magazine but the tested the Prohunter and at 100 metres it had 10 shot groupings of less than .5 inches. BTW the Scout was voted best rifle of 1999 by Guns and Ammo magazine. I don't have a Prohunter but if I were to buy a rifle it would be my choice.
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Michael emrys: I began to notice about 25 years ago that for a lot of people, if it didn't get on tv, it didn't happen. Michael<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Now it's. If something isn't on the internet it doesn't exist. I had a senior citizen think I was no longer in business because I didn't have a website yet. This was a man who didn't think he needed a modem.
  20. I meant killed not wounded. Someday I will make a post that doesn't have a mistake in it.
  21. I have noticed that they don't kill enough soldiers. Now if someone is shot with a 20mm explosive round wouldn't the limb hit be destroyed. Even if it didn't hit you in a vital area, having your arm or leg turned to hamburger would probably make you bleed to death. I feel that virtually any hit by a 20mm or higher should be a kill. Actually I find the lethality of CM rather low. I set up a scenario with a town with a battalion of German infantry and unleashed 8 batteries of 14 inch guns on it. Almost every building was destroyed. The totals were 400+ casualties with just over 100 wounded. Shouldn't there be more dead? Wouldn't half the guys been turned to jam. I think at least 200+ should have been killed.
  22. I am referring to Main Battle Tank to clarify matters.
  23. I've been searching for stuff on the net pertaining to this topic but haven't found anything interesting. Anyone have opinions on what is the best modern AFV in a one to one engagement?
  24. Can someone just make a bmp and replace the open ground texture. You could install it when you want to play an omaha scenario then put the original back later.
