Next to that I eat at Bertucci's - any of them do...
-

I like this idea..

first of all - on you can unzip on xp. Just go download a program... WinAce, Winzip, Winrar, all those come to mind.
Second of all, the 653 pt mech force is your core force. When you roll up your task force later the core force must be included anyways seperate of that.
And no, divide by 1.72.

Most honorable behaviour, and I can only commend him for that.
Please do not be fooled by that cretin peasant Sublime. I know him well enough. I'm sure what you consider "honorable behaviour" is really just a part of some greater scheme to trick you into thinking he is a decent human being worthy of some kind of human-to-human repect. I would give a rabid 3 legged sewer rat more respect. Really, he is a terrible, wicked, debased and twisted soul whose main goal is to spread disease, suffering and filth to all those who he meets. Be sure to keep a good distance from his propaganda. Word has it that he has actually employed the former Iraqi Information Minister to help him with his propganda war.

Cheers to RS Colonel and V. You both are great PBEM opponents I cherish and am glad to have met.
The scenario in question with RS i think has been slightly exagerrated, It was no big deal to do a rematch, after all we all are playing for fun, and I am dueling him for a sig line
To throw in the name of another great PBEM opponent, Lt Bull and his brainless fascist hordes have proven extremely capable opponents, with piss in your pants laughing quality jokes, and great turnarounds. Anyways cheers to the 3 I mentioned - We toast your coming deaths!
And cheers for BTS and the CM community in general.

Jack - Yeah. If you had a mod where all your tanks were painted pink, theyd still act the same and have the same amount of camoflauge as the stock tanks that come with the game. And they'd only look pink on your screen unless your friend was using the same mod.
-
Ok... CMBB Has always ran fine for me. The last few days, I've been getting incredibly low frame rates in PBEMs and QB's and everything else that normally would run fine. This is on 1.02 and 1.03 beta patches. I have applied no new mods or anything, though originally had a lot of mods on it, and also I have reinstalled to no avail.
I have plenty of free room on my comp, and no viruses according to norton.
1.66 Athlon
224 megs of ram
Geforce 2 16meg
30+ gigs free
Can anyone try an help me out?

damn... give it up. Just let em finish with the bugs and move on, it's not going to happen.

I could see how some people would want that. I prefer German/Russian, you figure out the general idea of the cries eventually, I think it makes it more fun & realistic, and I know some of them anyways. "SANI!!!" thats German for medic, for one.
Anyways god forbid they make anything in CM more like Close Combat
-
Well, I hope they spent more time fixing the HE bug and stuff than fixing the 'panther graphic'
It doesnt matter anyways Volker, do a search, they had a thread with the correct bmp's in it to solve the problem....
-
Most of them didnt fight at Berlin at the forces at Berlin were mostly what was in the actual area at the time. Plus a good amount of the better troops got killed on the Seelow Heights. Hitler Youth would be classified as Volksturm I guess, if you can even call them that. conscript Volksturms.
-
Gian, if you want a game mail me
-
Well, with indirect fire you can achieve the same results. Not to mention that if you direct fire, and the conditions are right, the troops usually use em anyways (mine have a lot at least)
-
You're asking too much. The tank AI isnt idiotic all the time, only in specific situations, and I think it'd be impossible to code the AI to do what you want. (at least given what we have nowadays) Even if they could code it to what you want, people would be bitching then about 'The AI always just does tank rushes'
You cant keep everyone happy. There are unfortunate side affects to the AI and how the game is, but if you cant handle it play human opponents. Otherwise, I guess dont play any more scenarios where you'll have a few Tigers facing a horde of T-34s at long range. If they patch anything I think they just need to patch the tank gun firing problem.(with crests and whatnot)
By the way, are you sure about the T-34 vs the Pz IV? My T-34s never seem to back off against Pz IVs...
Also in CMBO the sides were not really more balanced. Certain periods on the Eastern Front saw big disparities in equipment, true, but I'd take T-34s and IS-2s in CMBB over Shermans and Churchills in CMBO...
-
Ah thank you Jason, noted and saved. Great timing as well, great to get this after work...
Anyways thanks again.. I'll look into the Valentines, and especially the T-34/57mms...
I'd heard of them before but never actually encountered one yet.

Thats a discussion on tactics in general. Im wondering about the armor aspect. For example, July 1943. Now take out AT guns/infantry/etc.
And just enter the tank aspect.
Germans can get Panthers, Panzers, Tigers, etc.
The best the Russians can field is KV 1 S and T-34's it looks like to me. Anyone know a good Russian TD for 1943? What about pre october '44?
And anything for 1941-42? Please note I dont want KV recommendations for 41-42, Im looking to see if I missed an AFV i didnt think of or know about.
-
Yes, this stuff actually is in the manual. RTFM!!!
Anyways grenade icons represent 5 nades
little tube things that look like canisters are rifle grenades
poles with bulky ends are Panzerfausts
it goes on and on, there are mines, etc
if you dont know, hit enter on the unit and it'll have what the squad or unit has in the info box
-
Ok late 44... But still, thats from October 1944 onwards! Germany invaded Russia on June 22nd, so that leaves 3 and a half odd years of combat not covered! The problem isnt as serious for Soviets earlier the war, T-34s do nicely and in a pinch a KV will take on much anything (watch for 88s though)
Problems arise in 1942-1943 though..
Any wonderful ideas or possibly another excellent essay by Jason?

I ran some tests as well and the SU 85M rocks. Against StuGs it does well, though it was a lot less of match against some Tigers... Tigers look like they give it a run for it's money ( I didnt do full tests, only 2 QBs, each with 2 SU 85M vs 3 StuG III lates and 1 StuG IV, second one with a platoon of Tiger tanks with reg crewsO
I didnt get to check every where but does anyone know offhand the SU 85M's availibility? This could be a problem as I noticed it wasnt availible in 1944 (central front, maybe I'm wrong) It'd be bad if it's only a 1945 tank... that leaves a lot of time open but it's still a bitchin TD..
-
Well, in a pure armor role Tigers, Jagdpanzer IV/70s, Panthers, and King Tigers are great too. But yes StuGs are an excellent choice in pure armor. A major advantage that Pz III and IV's have on StuGs though is their versatility. In pure armor, you may well be better off getting a StuG, but not in combined arms or a different scenario. Dont read this wrong - StuGs would still be useful, but Pz IV's or III's are a lot better against infantry.Originally posted by laxx:thanks for the reply, especially the bit on T34 chassis.
IMHO, l like the StuG because of the strong frontal armor and low profile which suits the TD role, rather than thinking of it as a cheap Panzer (which is not). so in a pure armor role, l would usually buy a. StuG over say a IV or a late III. l will do more test tonite but l suspect there lsnt an equilvalent of the StuG in the russian armory.
thanks, er, any comments on tungsten versus AP ?
Of course you have to remember the early model StuGs (most notoriously for me the IIIB) suck IMHO. They have short guns and are made for infantry support actually, and are pathetic against tanks. I dont think IIRC the StuGs become tank killers until their IIIF model or somefink. The IIIF8 is a great one, and the IV's are good.
As far as Tungsten vs AP, whats your question?
AP is armor piercing ammo best used against tanks. Tungsten is armor piercing ammo as well, but it is made out of Tungsten which is extremely hard and therefore has higher penetration power. Most tanks will save their tungsten until they need it.
There probably isnt an exact equivalent of the StuG in the Russian armory... You have to remember they didnt make this game and create the units out of thin air, and carefully balanced it as such. You have to make do with whatever the side really had, and the Russians and Germans were of completely different minds on many of their tactics and strategies, and also equipment... (not to mention ideologies...)
So while their may not be a Russian StuG, there are other things the Russians have the Germans dont. Also remember you have to use significantly different tactics for the Axis and Allies, if you try to play as the Soviets with German tactics you'll lose (except for occasional flukes..)
Also the Soviet TDs you mentioned - They arent exactly TD's. They're more of assault cannons. They work for TD work as well, but I find the best Soviet 'TD's are actually their MBTs - in the later war years T-34/85s and IS-2s work great for me...
hope this helps...

2.:There is a bug with the italian tank destroyer
(i guess it is the semovente?). when it´s buttoned you can see the feet of the crewman below the vehicle...
Thats not a bug. The Italians had a shortage of wheels during the war and used the Flintstones style TD which was propelled by the crew members running as fast as they could when they got shot at. The feet your seeing is just more proof of BTS' unnerving accuracy with this game, also note that this TD goes a lot slower than Fred Flintstones car so be warned...

Well.. the thing to remember about casualties is that people are usually a lot more reluctant to take risks when real people are getting killed & maimed...
