And in Normandy the Allies had total command of the air. The Germans had superior battlecraft and equipment, only overwhelmed by airpower. One can sense in Ukraine, the Ukrainians have superior battlecraft, and limited equipment with no command of the air, although command of the stratosphere and eyes over the territory. As with Normandy the strategy is to starve the Russian front lines of reinforcements and supplies, done through targeting with precision targeting and HMARs fire. In Normandy D-Day was June 6, July 25. The Canadians crossed the Seine on Aug 30. The abortive attempt on Hitler was July 20-44 ( we have had a revolt in Russia). Hitler was dead within a year. Normandy was the most intense battle of WW2. There is similar intensity in Ukraine, and it is costly in terms of lives. The strategists are planning for the Normandy scenario to be repeated in southern Ukraine.

Normandy wasnt the most intense battle of WW2 by any measure whatsoever.  For example what about Stalingrad?

The Germans weren't 'only overwhelmed by airpower' either.  They did not have superior battlecraft.  Some units did better tactically.  Many did not.  Operationally and above they sucked eggs.  They had a few good units in Normandy - however the average allied unit was as good or better than the average Heer unit.

    100% agree!

In the Second Front tactical wargame by Microprose, the LOS tool (activated with a key) allows to dark shade the terrain that cannot be seen by the selected unit. If no unit is selected then it is the terrain that cannot be seen by all units that is dark shaded.

I think its the same with those wargames now like WARNO

I actually REALLY dig that method more

Forget about the Coax adapter if you are willing to put an Ethernet cable from the computer to the router. It was just a distracting post, unless you happen to have coax in the walls (rare).

A good first thing to post about your computer is whether you have an Ethernet port already. We don't even know whether it is a desktop or a laptop, that makes it a little thin on the forensics we work off.

Both have to be using a demo install. Version of current software is irrelevant.

ironically i forgot this happened with CW too. you goto properties, and then click some stuff and DPI scaling I dont remember exactly fixed it tho

Ironically I got a kid I met on GHPC discord, very smart, serbian (ew) but Ive successfully unbrainwashed him ( i think) anyways hes in LOVE with the game

(when I say unbrainwashed when I met him he said he believed russia was winning, had 25k dead, and UA had over 200k dead and was gonna lose)

lets say using logic, videos, and  more logic.... I was like look  if UA is gonna lose, how does itstill exist?  RU was never gonna be stronger than 2/23/22 and its more than a year later. Bakhmut overtook Verdun as the longest battle. If this is what victory looks like holy hell I dont wanna see a Russian vatnik loss

Then I also noted that for all the russian talk of westoids being trannies and gay the ONLY PROVEN COMBAT FOOTAGE OF 2 SOLDIERS FELLATING EACHOTHER IS OF VATNIKS BLOWING ONE ANOTHER BEFORE A DRONE WAXES THEM

I also introduced him to the term 'devdoschina' or whatever. which was amusing lmao

when I first met him he was dying to go to UA for the russians lmao.  I was like 'never go full retard voja'

    he didnt get the reference

now I got him almost convinced to enlist in the US military at age 18.  way I look at it, if nothing else, if hes ddetermined to be a soldier, you got the best chaance of survival as a US soldier these days

  5. Hey guys..

I own BS but I have someone who dl'd and loved the demo. Young kid, good kid. Thing is I wanna play him, but I cannot run the demo. I install and get an error that it needs to be 32 bit and x resolution...

Thing is I know how to change my resolution etc, and changed that and the bit to make sure on my geforce panel and control panel.

    Game still wont run?

Whats stranger to me is CW is the only  other CM game I play ATM and it runs fine

I see. Well, you know what you"re talking about. Less sure of myself, so okay, you could be right. But I still think CM can endure another couple of years, until the new engine is ready. Hopefully we will all live to see that day.

Im sure it'll endure, For many years. people STILL play cm1! But I dont want to see this become more and more niche and isolated.

10 years ago, CM was getting articles in online gaming 'mags' and if you brought it up ppl usually knew what you meant.   Now I normally get the equivalent of a real life blank stare

  7. I didnt realize the comp  mattered at all, if I have a standard US comcast type router that controls the cable and internet for the whole house would I just need an ethernet adapter or what?  And what do you need to know about the comp then? ask and Ill find out?

Also, what do u mean couldnt help? I literally thanked and upvoted every comment for the help I received. I just want to know if I need just ethernet cable or the adapter too

Ethernet cables can be up to 300 feet before needing a repeater.  Amazon has some very good ones in 100 foot length (get more than you think you need, hiding the excess is normally fairly easy but not having enough is always a pain).

I ran my cables under through an airduct down to the basement (a hole just big enough to push a cable through the side) then up through another duct so the cable is not laying on the floor.  I also used a cheap switch ($20 or so) to allow 4 devices to hook up to the switch.

At my mother's that was not an option so I used ethernet over coax since she had coax outlets near where she wanted the PC and the other one was where the cable box is.  The power line connectors also work well most of the time but when they don't work they are garbage (something to do with how the house wiring is done, I have had them work really well and really badly on different days - then switched to the coax version that works great all the time and is much faster, as fast as my internet signal)

Here is a link to the COAX connectors:   https://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-ScreenBeam-Network-Adapter-Ethernet/dp/B08ML1TSXC/ref=sr_1_1?crid=O6Z8M9ZH9M9G&keywords=ScreenBeam%2BBonded%2BMoCA%2B2.5%2BNetwork%2BAdapter%2Bfor%2BHighest%2BSpeed%2BInternet%2C%2BEthernet%2BOver%2BCoax%2B-%2BStarter%2BKit&qid=1683161563&s=electronics&sprefix=screenbeam%2Bbonded%2Bmoca%2B2.5%2Bnetwork%2Badapter%2Bfor%2Bhighest%2Bspeed%2Binternet%2C%2Bethernet%2Bover%2Bcoax%2B-%2Bstarter%2Bkit%2Celectronics%2C66&sr=1-1&th=1

dude holy **** 160????  is that how much im gonna need to do this?!?!?!  I thought 40 dollars tops?!  bro Im pooooor!! =(

Do I NEED this adapter??  I thought a cable from the router downstairs..?

    PS thanks for answering

Thank you. I agree @Simicro's English is impressive. Mine… Well, a little less unfortunately… 😟

A nice feature of this forum is that people are of very various origins: I've noticed at least one people from each Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand…

And I probably missed some as I don't participate in the modern titles subforums.

A new slogan for BFC: "War unites people". Hmm well, not that great I'm afraid…😇 "Make war, not love" ? 🥴

    OK, I'm out.

we even had vatniks and still have Ukrainians

Im sure we have Chinese but Ive never seen a self admitted person living in the PRC here.

This is gonna sound awful, and Im gonna probably get in trouble but here we goooo :

when the chinese start showing up in a video games, I mean chinese in the PRC, its the end.   Cheating to win is culturally accepted there and that fundamentally clashes with the concept of gaming without money involved or the morals of sportsmanship that.... the rest of the world has.  Its anecdotal to be sure but every game Ive ever played, with the online PLA-N (P Lib Army of Nerds) shows up the cheating goes through the roof.  Nevermind that they cant even use the same characters as us in chat. Its hard enough but somewhat doable when you both dont speak the same language but at least can type in C versus some chinese character my keyboard wont even produce..

I doubt itll happen, but before anyone calls me racist, two wrongs dont make a right but daily reminder that the CCP tv regularly uses blackface, mocks africans as dumb apes, etc.  Oh and LMFAO their troops recent combat experience mainly has been literally fleeing african rebels and leaving the aid workers behind

  10. 'Throw a nickel in the grass'

RIP John Chesire.  F4 vet, 2 combat tours in Nam.  His memoirs are googleable and free online.  I only ever talked to him on quora but he had the greatest stories and was a great guy.  One of the original 'top guns'; like 2nd or 3rd class, flew the first operational F14 cruise.

Flew a tour in like 68 which he described as 'dull' went to top gun and flew a 72 tour he described as ' a different world' with the new AAA and SAMs and the NVN (hell and us) were more aggressive in the air war.

Honest to a fault, readily admitted he never laid eyes on a VN mig despite that being every true fighter pilots dream.  He had one on his scope before and tried chasing it down.  However it was a stern chase and headed right towards basically Hanoi and the main mig base area and after a few minutes he gave it up. Hell it was prolly a trap

If anyone is in contact with Pete Wenman pls have him msg me, John was very fond of Pete. I msgd him, Im sure he knows, but if not he deserves to, hes the one who made me aware of Johns existence.

edit wow I cant find his self written memoirs online anymore. Ill have someone find them for me.  His pics, and other stuff are readily googleable. His quora memories are pure gold.  This guy was a consummate professional and gentleman.  All of us Americans lost something when John passed away.

Yep. And given the alternative I prefer to keep to keep it that way. But seriously, BFC has been given us great games for more than 25 years now. So a little trust is in order, I think. I doubt whether complicated wargames such as CM appeal to young people. Once they're getting older they will realize CM is unique. Hell, perhaps they will even start to read good books about warfare. 😉

Trust me the complicated war games DO appeal to the younger crowd just as much as when you were a teen or I was.

I met people on the GHPC discord and were shocked to find they were 14 year olds.. Maybe not as much knowledge but pretty advanced, and eager to learn.  But the graphics DO matter to these kids, and I dont blame them,  I mean CM is starting to see potential competition arising and the engine was showing its age to me even years ago.

But TRUST ME that young kids still do, and always will like military stuff.  Its like a drug addiction.  They play fortnight then war thunder next thing you know you have me barking orders at them in DCS over the radio.. IDK if youre familiar but some of the DCS modules are insanely complex and difficult to learn let alone master.  for example the F14, and HIND are good examples.  I will say, I have noted the younger crowd have more trouble in DCS flyign the analogue stuff, if given the option theyll take that stupid F18 over my beloved 14 because they cant handle not having a helmet mounted hud, super duper modernized hud etc.

Though I havent flown in DCS in years. When that F4 Phantom comes out.. I hope my track IR still works lol  I mean not only is it iconic as hell but my father was a F4 WSO/EWO for years in the 70s.

    Some quick points:

War Thunder and World of Tanks should not be taken seriously. Their armor modeling is, at best, a gameplay gimmick, and is not particularly accurate of a multitude of reasons.

This image is regarding War Thunder, but it makes a point nonetheless:

    how-did-ukraine-penetrate-this-t-80bvm-i

This is a point that is made (and argued against a lot) both here and in professional circles, but the survivability onion strikes again. The best way for a tank to not get penetrated is for it to not get shot in the first place, even in direct combat. (Break out the bingo card) Things like hull down, berm drills, prepared positions, battle positions, engagement areas, and displacing to alternate firing positions (bingo!) all work in concert. The armor itself is the last resort defensive measure of a tank.

Not trying to poopoo your post. I understand the anticipation.

I will say this: I am very interested to see how the Chieftain ends up performing whenever this module comes out. As discussed in either this thread or elsewhere (can't recall at the moment) the Chieftain was fielding rather lackluster ammunition during this time period that (at first glance) appears to be even less potent than the early US ammo already present in the game. Given that, it'll be interesting to see how the Chieftain performs.

yeah sensors sensors sensors.  Thats what the US army found post ww2 and what my take on UA is now - doesnt matter if you got that honking 125mm if the guy with the 105mm can ping you 3-4 times without you even seeing where he is...

Its cringe AF to use a video game for real life but CMSF really opened my eyes to the javelin and wow it wasnt wrong.  This is a tangent, but the Russians failed hard totally investing on beam riders whether Kornet or Vikhr etc.  Even the UA Stugna at least lets the launcher sit away from the soldier.

Considering original T90As had an auto slew to lase option, these modern atgms that need you to literally fire it and guide it are IMO suicide if they require a laser x2

That's my understanding too. But who knows, it is also possible that BFC re-use part of engine 5 for CM3.

Nah man heres my reasoning - the phrase 'engine 5'

Also CM1 to 2 was totally different. they werent interchangeable.  indeed the first one didnt even actually show every soldier!  (like 12 men would be shown as 3, when 4 lost 2, etc) very immersion breaking for me at the time, though of course a ton of the older heads who at the time had grown up on table top were like 'youre spoiled'

No, not to seem a know it all, but watching them release CM content since 1999 this is a CM2 upgrade.  'Free of charge' Cm3? LOL Also, trust me, theyll blow this site the fck up when CM3 is close with all sorts of screens, aars, a new sub forum etc

    Hello,

I read from BFC that: There was talk last year of an Engine 5 Upgrade designed to improve game performance free of charge.  This is still planned, but it did get caught up in the PBEM/Tournament development headaches. So if I understand correctly, Engine 5 is for CMx2?

And CMx3 is supposed to have a whole new engine? In terms of bold timeline, I guess that we will have to wait for a couple of years? Like Sublime and as a new player I would prefer that, after engine 5, BFC prioritizes on CMx3 rather than modules for CMx2.

Id HEAVILY suspect the engine 5 upgrade is almost 100% for the current titles, and will include featurettes and stuff.

But none of this changes the fact this is a 2006 engine. Heavily upgraded sure, but after a certain point youre still left with lipstick and a pig. Im not saying CM is a pig yet... but I can hear the swine outside

  15. 20 hours ago, Aragorn2002 said:

Just kidding, Sublime. It's your opinion and I respect that.

But BFC is working on CMx3, so in the meantime producing more modules for CMx2 sounds like good idea to me. I'm still in love with how CMx2 looks and feels, but that's me. I'm conservative and old fashioned. 🙂 And turning 60 this Summer...For me CM will always be a boy's dream come true.

CMx3 is confirmed? remember Ive been gone years.  If they are making it then yes Id like modules and them to finish the eastern front.

PS Im the opposite of conservative or old fashioned, as Im sure you've seen watching me half my life on this forum make an *** out of my self

    😳

I know I sound crazy. I care about the franchise and maybe you guys dont see it but I do, constantly trying to turn younger gamers onto this, half who are not amateurs by any means (like fly dcs constantly, etc not war thunder types) - half immediately nope out because its A 2006 ENGINE AND YOU CAN TELL..

And its NOT just graphics, there are some glaring issues for example that show up in MOUT

I know this wont change **** - theyll just churn out CMx2 titles until it dies but god I wish I was wrong

  17. 1 hour ago, IanL said:

I think you are asking to annotate the map and have those marks show up in the 3D world some how.

    Yeah that would be awesome.

yes thank you for summarizing that, Im not good at that. Yes itd realllllllly help me

But again, Cmx1 to  cmx2 was 7 years. Cmx2 to --- ? is almost 17 years. BFC please I love you guys, dont die on this hill just churning out CMx2 stuff.  Its fine for the old heads but the new gamers... even ones who I got to like ur games, they all... were constantly bitching about the graphics. And the fact is graphics DO MATTER.  And  plus the engines just ancient at this point

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD JUST STOP AND MAKE CMX3. MY OPINION ONLY, BUT F EXPANSIONS TO ANYTHING ELSE, ANY NEW TITLES, CMX3, THATS THE FUTURE.

Anything else you'll grow more and more niche until this dies
