1. Sheepshagger clean out your email! I've been getting automated messages for two days that my last file to you is undeliverable but enqueued because you're too busy with your sweet little ovine friends. ------------------ "If you can taste the difference between caviar on a cracker and ketchup on a Kit-Kat while blindfolded, you have not had enough aquavit to be ready for lutefisk." (stolen from some web page about lutefisk)
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by dalem: How come Xena is good on Xena, but when I saw her on a Hercules show, she was evil?

That type of question is more appropriate to the "Frequently asked questions answered by Cesspoolers from the Peng thread." Now go away. ------------------ "If you can taste the difference between caviar on a cracker and ketchup on a Kit-Kat while blindfolded, you have not had enough aquavit to be ready for lutefisk." 3. just trying out the new sig... ------------------ "If you can taste the difference between caviar on a cracker and ketchup on a Kit-Kat while blindfolded, you have not had enough aquavit to be ready for lutefisk." (stolen from some web page about lutefisk)
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Elijah Meeks: Lutfisk, what the monkey is that?

Basically, poison. Ask Seanachai to send you a sample (he'll reply with "Ya sure, you betcha"). If he doesn't know where to get it, tell him Ingebretson's (over in St. Paul). It's one of those things that was what you ate in a famine back in the old country that has somehow become a delicacy here (like hardtack or elmer's glue). In scandinavia, it was fish (cod IIRC) marinated for weeks or months in lye (sometimes spelled Drano). Lived near Seenachoochoo for 6 years (and probably failed him in a class or two) and never tried the stuff. You can read more here: http://netnet.net/~pineaire/Lutefisk.html edited again to add this better page about the stuff: http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~atman/ic/lutefisk.html ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread. 5.
quote:
Originally posted by curih: I always found it interesting that the Americans and the Germans came up with such opposite solutions to deal with enemy tanks. ... Personally I find ( at least in CM ) the German designs to be more effective. Both are normally used from ambush, but I find the German ones more survivable after their position has been revealed.

The german ones were designed to be more effective from ambush, the allied ones to move fast and be hard to hit (note the 55 mph speed of the Hellcat!!) If you keep your allied TDs moving fast, and only stopped when they're behind good cover they can be very effective. You can charge in and flank or get behind a german vehicle, get off a shot, and be gone before the thing can get the gun on target. The M10 TD is an exception to this, as it has a really slow turret, and insufficient armor to compensate. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 6. I sit at home with some sort of upper respiratory infection that has refused to either get worse or go away, and it reminds me of my match with Sneezy-choo-choo. In fact, starting this afternoon, both seem to be improving a bit. It's been a rather brutal match, fought in his backyard with deep snow and canadians or some such other troops that use british colors but don't talk funny in quite the same way as proper brits. Maybe they are british, it doesnt really matter since most of them are dead already anyway, and the rest will be soon. He managed to rush up and occupy the flags first, since germans seem to really suck at running in snow, getting easily winded, and the canucks or whatever they are all showed up in their hockey uniforms with skates and skis. We traded tanks for a while destroying and/or immobilizing nearly everything with a motor (except some rather sucky little mg carriers), though it looks now as if his little stuart may have finally unbogged itself. That's fine, it will die from a shaped charge through the side like the rest of his vehicles. Now the intestinal parasite has turned, and the canucks seem to be on the run. I've taken one of the flags back (sneezy's troops were down to hockey sticks, and then when they broke they dropped them, to avoid a term in the box) and he's got a short platoon that's attempting to advance off of a clump of woods on top of the other flag. They're about to be escorted into whatever creator dependent afterlife awaits them. btw - whatever happened to that pimple-faced wintergreen kid? Do you suppose he lights up when you crush him? ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by CliffC: Ummmm...What scenario generator? Is this a separate software or part of CMBO?

The big button on the upper right of the first screen that says "create scenario". It's pretty easy to use, and will let you make maps with various aspect ratios, as well as with water (which the map generator doesn't do well). To use it to make a QB it helps to either have a third party populate the map for you or have an opponent you trust. If you have an opponent you trust, you make a map, send it for perusal, and then whoever is playing allies populate it first (since the unit selection screen starts defaults to german). If you're using a third party, the third party sends a copy of the map to both players, then one player populates it directly and sends it back to the third party (to save work for the helper), while the other sends a list of purchases to the third party who adds the to the list, does a tournament save, and sends it out. it's a little more effort than a straight QB if you have the third party, but otherwise is pretty good. If you find yourself playing with someone who cheats, don't play them again, but I suspect most people are trustworthy enough to not peek. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.

 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Warphead-: Can you have tank-crews of Orcs, Woodelf scouts, Dwarven engineers, Highelf Artillery and Barbarian Sturmgruppen then?

Ents. I demand Ents. I want to be able to bring the forest with me when necessary or have the trees deny them to my enemy. I can see them screaming now "That tree damaged the gun on my King Tiger, that's not realistic!!" ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Beer_n_Pretzels: This is good stuff. For those who choose infantry first, is that a reflection of your CM experience? Or is because you feel infantry is more durable?

reflection of my SL experience, backed up by CM experience. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Elijah Meeks: I'm bored in the cesspool and am going to litter the whole board with by brain lint.

Meeks, get your own butt back in the pool and keep it there. You've been terrorizing the board at large for days with posts (both new topics and replies) that are just leaks from the pool. If you're going to abuse your custodianship of the pool that way I might have to hop a plane up there and brick you. It's faster than going over to hollywood for a play (traffic around here sucks), and probably more fun, too. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 12. It depends as much on which side I'm playing--with the US I'll pick the arty first (don't leave home without at least one 81 mm FO--lots of rounds, cheap, and effective for pinning or smoke). Then I'll buy infantry, and depending on my mood go to vehicles or armor. Support weapons are less important to buy separately as the allies because the infantry units come with lots. As the german, usually the infantry comes first, then support weapons, then arty and armor. I rarely choose the tanks first (even in an armor battle I'll probably choose some infantry first) ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Check6: My duel with a non-Pooler, Mr. Hankey,

Didn't your parents teach you not to play with your fecal matter? And we don't want to hear about what you're doing with non-poolers anyway. Just go away. Your previous post was even stupider. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by ex PFC Wintergreen: Being a newbie, I have to ask who, where, or what is "Peng"? Or am I being impertinent??

I will answer you only because I like your choice of name. Don't ever show up here again though. Peng was once a generator of prolix prose (though not quite so prolix as Seanachai), but has recently suffered a terrible disease and has been rather absent from the thread bearing his name for a while. Peng is the force of the anti-smiley, choosing verbosity over dingbats. And yes, it's impertinent of you to even appear in this thread. Be gone! ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Lorak: Figure you guys could send me a small picture, and maybe a quote, background, whatever and I'd throw it up.

So you have some weird fetish that makes you crave silver chloride, but you're watching your weight and have a tendency toward bulimia? What a bizarre perversion. I want no part of it. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by MrPeng: I'm back, and not nearly as mean as I used to be. I could almost post a smiley

Hey, smileyboy, you owe me a file, too. Either with your surrender, or with your StuGs exploding. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Jaldaen: I do have assualt boats on the Allied side and know the TacAI can't use them, but I don't know if that matters...

You correctly answered the question yourself. Since the TacAI can't use them, it won't let you make it play them. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Blitzbreker: What is happening now, i don't get any response/reply from BTS or Matt.

He/they might be taking a day or two off, or not have immediate access to the records of what shipped when. Relax for a few days, play the demo a bunch more, and if you don't hear by monday or tuesday bug them again. BTS has consistently demonstrated great customer service, but they're only a few people so they can get overloaded. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 19. Looks like Meeks has been sniffing a little too much glue tonight, the way he's letting the pool leak out into the forum. Anybody have a 10 ton safe around? Or a piano? I'm afraid the brick just won't do it anymore. Here meeksy meeksy (holding out potential tcp/ip game)... (WHAM) (Sound of safe dropping on Meeks' head) ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Stuka: Probably longer than Meeks' courtship of Hiram threads I'd wager.

That was pretty impressive-- Kwazy must have been sitting watching over Meeks's shoulder to lock it that fast-- it was practically locked before my post in the pool showed up. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 21. get back in the pool!! Now!!! ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Martyr: Can someone tell me how the "Sneak" command has or has not been changed over the course of CM's development/patching?

From the 1.01 readme: "* Sneaking units, when fired upon in cover, are more likely to stop and return fire rather than keep moving." From the 1.03 readme: "* Sneaking is now more sensitive to incoming fire when it decides to stop (i.e. "advance to contact")" 1.04, 1.05, and 1.1 don't have listed changes to sneak. You can actually find them all cataloged in the 1.1 readme file if you keep going toward the bottom-- Charles just updates the readme and keeps going. I still have the beta demo around somewhere, but I think only in a compressed state. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Elijah Meeks: And who do I have to kill to get a goddamn TCP/IP game?!?!

Kill yourself and I'll think about giving you a tcp/ip game this weekend. Hiram would be an ok second choice, since he's been spurning this thread. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: Crews don't abandon their vechicles soley do to it being immobile. Something else has to happen to make them bail out. Like being shot at...

Crews of unarmed vehicles will bail when immobilized due to mud. I had this happen to a truck in Bucholz Station. They bogged on a dirt road, immobilized, and bailed out. I don't think they were even alerted though-- just a little annoyed at having to hike. There were no enemies nearby, and in fact, because it was an early version I didn't even see any germans until the last few turns (they were wandering aimlessly on the other side of the map) ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
 25.
quote:
Originally posted by Naja: BUT (there it is again) I played a PBEM where a Hertzer refused to fire a shot (no a Hertzer is not an ubertank, 4 crew members.) He lost his commander.

The Hetzer has a slow rate of fire to start with (the loader is on the wrong side of the breech), and if you knock out a crew member it's going to get slower. You don't necessarily know which crew member was taken out, but it could seriously ruin your day. ------------------ Slayer of the Original Cesspool Thread.
