1. Aerogel, Since you admit to being a Newbie, I suggest you go here.
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Seanachai: Bloody well ruined the sport when they dragged it 'inside' a dome, and allowed the weak to survive. Not unlike your little tournament. [ 12-04-2001: Message edited by: Seanachai ]

Agreed (on the first point). One cool thing about the Dinky Dome is a little-known feature. If all the outer doors in the building are opened simultaneously, the roof will collapse!
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Seanachai: ...And you and I arguing about seniourity? That's like two subalterns arguing over the date of their commissions, you Newbie coddling weiner dog!

Careful! I wouldn't want to have to resort to mentioning a certain football (cough) team from your neighborhood.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Seanachai: SuperTed, will this be where they'll be posting their game results and experiences, then? We just want a quick heads-up so that we know where to come by to mock and belittle them. (if you found yourself angered by this post, you wouldn't understand. It's a Peng Challenge Thread thing)

Seanachai, This thread is only for pre-tournament discussions. Once things get going (on December 8), I'll start a new thread. Go easy on the Newbies, though. We don't want to scare them off. Yes, I understand. Since I joined this forum soooo much earlier than you did ( ), I have gained a wealth of knowledge that you could not possibly have.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Ligur: Sounds very promising, and Ted making the battles is great! We love you, SuperTed! Are you going to make them "unbalanced" on purpose you know, like in Wild Bill's Rumblings and the Nordic ones?

Ligur, Aw, shucks. Nope. My goal is to make them as balanced as I can. I think you'll like the ones I have cooking.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Chad Harrison: ...i know someone else who would object to that . . . MY WIFE!!!

Chad, I'm hurt.
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by YankeeDog: Wow. You're doing force allocation and everything. . . This is definitely a full-service establishment. Do I get a free tournament patch with my entry fee, too??

YD, You get a firm (albeit electronic) handshake and a hearty "Congratulations!" if you win.
quote:
Originally posted by YankeeDog: Your solution to eliminate (or at least mitigate) gaminess is simple and therefore elegant. You da man. If you're ever in NYC, I'll buy you a beer (this is about all the bribe I can afford. . .).

Hmm, if it's a Sapporo Black, I am so there.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Sir Uber General: So our forces are going to be pre purchased? Intersting! This will be a short lived experience for many of us newbs then, finding out that unit x sucks vs unit y for the first time

SUG, That really should not be a problem either. The scenarios are not going to be monstrous slug-fests. They'll be mostly tiny-small, so players should be confident that what they have will most likely be effective against what the enemy has.
quote:
Originally posted by Sir Uber General: The comp starts Saturday... YOUR time Sunday for me

Then, please let me know how things go. That way I can correct any mistakes before they happen HERE.
quote:
Originally posted by Sir Uber General: I am amazed at the number of newbs this game has, even after being released so along ago. When I load CMBO up at LANs I always get people looking over my shoulder going "wow whats that?" 'Tis a shame CMOB does not get the publicity it deserves

Actually, it is the responsibility of every owner of CMBO to do the marketing for BTS. That keeps the costs down.
quote:
Originally posted by Sir Uber General: Let the newbfest begin!

What he said!
 9. Panzerman has added a room onto his place at The Scenario Zone.
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Vitalis: I know that there isn't a big push for non-gamey play in this one, but since the scenarios are being created for us, I would recommend Fionn's rules of armor balance. That usually keeps everything pretty good. There is nothing worse than setting up a good combined arms unit to find out your opponant has chosen a platoon of Pershings or something. Vitalis

Vitalis, There will be no purchasing done by players. I'll be the only gamey bastard when it comes to that.
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by YankeeDog: I'm in - sent my email already. Setting up two tournaments to keep things competitive sounds like a good idea to me. Just have to rely on people to be honest about their experience. . .

YD, If they're not, I'll think nasty thoughts about them.
quote:
Originally posted by YankeeDog: ...Another thought - probably best to set very clear rules about 'gaminess' & c. - many of use newbies don't have as much knowledge about realistic force distributions & c. as some of you old-timers...

Actually, I have a way to address the issue of gaminess. I am designing gamey opportunities OUT of the scenarios. If I miss something, there will be NO rules governing GameyLand. It's too difficult to get everybody on the same page. Having said that, players should feel free to discuss the issue prior to playing. It may help to clarify things, but there will be no tournament-wide rules. 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Sir Uber General: So are you an Aussie Super Ted? Or just up real late in another part of the world? IM EXCITED! What date will the comp start?

SUG, Nope. I am in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. It's 1900 hours here (GMT -6:00), so I am guessing that it's yesterday here according to your clocks. Speaking of which, is there anything I should know about tomorrow? The tournament(s) will begin this Saturday, December 8. [ 12-03-2001: Message edited by: SuperTed ]

 13. So far, the response has been great! Keep 'em comin'! A pattern has begun to develop in the completed questionsaires. There are two versions of Newbie here: first, the garden-variety (GV) Newbie with a little experience and; second, the SuperNewbie with essentially no experience whatsoever. So, assuming we get at least 40 participants (which should not be a problem since there are already 12), I intend to run two 16-participant tournaments simultaneously. One will be for the GV Newbies and the other will be for the SuperNewbies. That should allow players to compete with others of similar skill levels and avoid having "experts" like Chad running roughshod over the SuperNewbies. Any thoughts on this plan? 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Herr Oberst: SuperTed, it is a great sacrifice, but I'm sure the vast majority of the Forum would agree to offer you an evening with Chad's wife if you ere to run the tournament... there may be one or two who would speak out against this, but I'm sure the majority is with us... That's a joke, son.

Herr O, Of those one or two that would speak out, I am sure my wife would be the loudest.
 15. K9Mug, Unless you are using an email different from the one in your profile, I do not recall seeing an email from you. Sure, I can swing through Seattle after Arizona.
 16. Cpl, Thanks for the offer. I'll add you to the list.
 17. LD, No problem. I am looking forward to it too.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Cribtop Gamer: ...I wanted to order a copy and send it to his address. Three questions: 1) Can I do this? I assume I can just put a different address for shipment than my billing address...

CG, I live in the 'States and I ordered a copy of CMBO for a gentleman in England. Things went without a hitch. So, you should have no problem getting a copy to your brother. Just use his address for the shipping and you'll be set. I recommend ordering it soon, just to be sure things don't get caught in the buying speed-up and the mail slow-down that is looming.
 19. Chad, That's why we have the Newbie thread. If all the Newbies stick together in here, the bullies won't stand a chance.
 20. Chad, As long as you promise to be Hallway Monitor, things should go well. That reminds me...I'll need some crossing guards.
 21. Keep the emails coming, folks. This is shaping up to be a good one.
 22. Swamp would like your input at Combat Opinion.
 23. Stoffel, Sure, I'd love to take a look at it (tedquincey@yahoo.com). Thanks. Fanghorn, Thanks. I may need somebody to sort the bribes. All, Go here
