1. Well, I am finally able to make the big announcement I have been hinting at making for a few weeks now. Thanks to the guys at Battlefront.com, the Newbie Tournaments now have prizes for the winners! Each of the four group winners will win a special Battlefront.com Panther G print. So, that's one for each of the winners from the SuperNewbies, the GV Newbies, the Newbie Rejects, and the Alterna Bowl. But, wait! There's more! The above four winners will enter the Newbie Finals to determine who the Ultimate Newbie is! The Ultimate Newbie will receive the ENTIRE SET of prints from Battlefront.com! If you would like to take a look at the prizes, go here. Enjoy and good luck to all!
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: ...Well, I don't know about you but I did get out and started to have some fun. Felled two very large dying ash trees for Spring firewood. Probably get a full cord out of the two. After making two perfect, and in one case extremely difficult, falls I got my trusty Bombadier tracked skidder (which I just found sucks in 2 foot snow compared to my Weasel) bellied on one of the trees as I tried to pass over the bloody thing. A combo of the track design and lack of a low gear range really messed me up as it caused me to slip off and turn 60 deg in the wrong direction. So tomorrow I have to go chain a log to the tracks like the tankers do and get the friggin thing off the tree. Well, at least half the afternoon was fun ... Steve

Steve, Uh, how can I put this nicely...YOU CALL THAT FUN?! You really need to get out more (and I don't mean out in the words, for crying out loud).
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Jazz: Ordered the game a month ago. Just curious as to if it was in stock at that time.

Jazz, Send an email to Madmatt ( matt@battlefront.com ). He'll ask you for things like your name, address, order date, and some other stuff. Once he has all the information, he'll get you squared away. Trust me; it's worth the wait.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Dave H: SuperTed, Please tell me you're not getting people in the Newbie Tournament hooked on some massive scenario. Let's keep our focus here. But, if you are luring newbies into monster scenarios where they must shut out the "Real World" for weeks at a time, please feel free to send it to Splash. Tell him he must complete the first 100 turns in the next four weeks. That should distract him from the tournament a little.

Dave, I see you're getting into the spirit of things. I like it.
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Vader's Jester: Okay, now I must try this one out even though my favorit scenarios are small to medium with no more than 40 units to give orders too. Where can I download Blood and Steel? I didn't see it on the Depot's lists.

VJ, It is on my hard drive. If you (or anybody else) would like to give it a try, I would be happy to send it. You should know that is technically still a beta/untested scenario. So, I am hoping to receive feedback from players.
 6. It was twenty years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play They've been going in and out of style But they're guaranteed to raise a smile.
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Walker: Helps what? My curiosity? Yes, it does. Thanks, Ted. So it's basically a scenario with flocks of AFVs and not much else? Chris Walker

Chris, Yup.
 8. Dave, TCP/IP is fairly straightforward, except the set up process. A lot of people get hung up on trying to determine what their IP number is. You need not worry about such things. Just start the scenario as usual, except that you choose "TCP/IP" at the "Choose Number of Players and Connection Type" screen. After choosing the amount of time you will use for each Orders Phase and a password, your IP number will be displayed. Tell your opponent what this number is and he will enter it when prompted after choosing "Join Multiplayer" and "Network Game."
 9. More results from the Newbie Reject Alternate: Hoopenfaust 101 (German, 33) and Sgt. Colon (British, 34) played to a draw in Medium Rare. Congratulations to Sgt. Colon(barely)!
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by Walker: Hey you guys playing that 10,000 pt monster game - what's it like having so many units to move? How long does it take for one move? How big is the map? How huge are the movie files? What kind of machines are you playing on? I'm interested! Chris Walker

Chris, I may know a little something about this one. Anyway, there are "only" about 96 units per side. The map is 2.16 km by 2.24 km. The last file they exchanged was 1.9 mb (I don't know if that was Zipped). I expect them to get quite a bit larger. I played the single-player version (yes, there are two versions for those who are interested) and had only minor slowdowns. I am using a PII-450/128 mb RAM/16 mb TNT. I hope that helps.
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Walker: ...So there's absolutely no way to review an individual TCP/IP movie once you've clicked done? Chris Walker

Chris, That is correct.
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Splash: Whoa. What's the point cost on this game?

Splash, Around 10,750 points per side.
 13. More results from the GV Newbie Alternates: Armdchair (German) defeated Haohmaru (British), 41-30, in Medium Rare. Congratulations to Armdchair!
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by White4: Leta, have sent 37, at 1.9MB!! I think my previous email of 37 dropped...

Guys, Yes, "Blood & Steel" is not for the meek (computers).
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Vader's Jester: Everybody please disreguard what Ted says on this forum now. It appears he has started up his crack habbit again.

Weeeeeeeeeeee..............
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Lord Dragon: ahhhh, vader's jester and i finally engaged in a rematch (of course, he is the one who knocked me out of the tourney) and if anyone is interested i can post our results! yes revenge is sweet! all in good fun of course! still cheering for you to win though!

LD, Let's hear it!
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Hoopenfaust 101: ...I'm having a blast

H101, I assume you mean that literally.
 18. If there's a bustle in your hedgerow Don't be alarmed now. It's just a spring clean for the May-Queen.
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Vader's Jester: ...Time for round 2 to start newbies!

VJ, Almost there...
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Leta: ...And now the Blood'n'Steel report: Sir, there are too much blood in the ground and too much steel burning in the hills. White4 & me are changing AFV for AFV (two double-kills at the moment)although he's 1 AFV ahead. My reinforcements are moving quickly to reach the front (the front is almost a mile away!) and probably the W4 reinforcements are moving the same way. So, I'm sure we'll see more blood and burning metal in the next turns ...

(in my best Monty Burns voice) Exxxxcellent... [ 01-17-2002: Message edited by: SuperTed ]
