3. I feel that tanks shouldn't get first-shot hits at 545m! I want a spectacular shoot-out, not just a couple of burning hulks after three seconds! This game is difunt from ASL, it must be broken!!

Right, you're Germans so you can have... teddy and Action Man, and the mechanical digger. I'm Canadians so I take the fire engine, Barbie, and the inflatable rabbit. Ammunition reserves are twenty marbles each... no you can't have the cool glass ones with the colourful wispy bits inside, those are mine!
5. You can't change Username, he's set in his ways.
6. I haven't played any operations with multiple-storey buildings, so I'm not sure what you're talking about here. Do you mean that units on upper storeys are placed elsewhere between battles, or do you mean that they disappear? In the former case, I imagine this is a limitation of the game engine. As for what ASL says about machineguns, why should they function differently depending on what storey they're on? Differences in air pressure?
7. PBEM Report PawBroon is retreating at a rate of approximately two turns a week in rune's Caen Mutiny. Looks like you're in for a bit of trouble back at HQ, boyo... I was just about to put a stop to Leeo's advance in rune's Wide Front when he started claiming that his e-mails are being returned. Leeo, I sent you an e-mail yesterday, let me know if you didn't get it and I shall knock some heads together at my ISP. I nearly knocked Panty Liner completely off balance with a Cromwellian pre-emptive strike in our rainy defense-against-the-assault scenario. However, due to the shortcomings of the game (and not my bizarre tactics, no, not at all) the tanks only inflicted about 1:1 damage before they were retired from service. I was about to withdraw when he marched some recon vehicles and infantry into my left-flank company, so I thought I might as well blow them up. MrSpnky, after failing to pull off what he indicated was going to be a killer blow on my infantry, has resorted to meaningless lawyer-type statements such as "that turn was inconclusive at best". He had a fair few guns, but then I had a fair few shells, and the shells proved very effective. I had an enjoyable duck shoot as he charged a few platoons of Fallschirmjäger across open ground through a hail of machinegun fire and 3in mortar blasts because for some reason he'd placed them all off on the flank where they were no use whatsoever. armornut is MIA. I have blown up some of Stalin's Organ's stuff and he has blown up some of mine. He has gamily brought a bunch of AT guns to a meeting engagement. We are currently occupying opposite sides of a couple of large hills after chucking lots of big shells at each other. I am about to be assaulted by Lawyer in Germanboy & Berli's To The Last Man (or Bis Dem Letzten Mann since it says that on my Stalingrad DVD and it's about the only part of the film I understand since it's all in German). I intend to sue him for damages, for violating my mental aura and for masquerading as a German. Correction: My Stalingrad DVD says Bis Zum Letzten Mann. I'm sure you were all about to point that out. They are on The List, and if they're not careful I may follow Joe's lead and put a line right through their puny names, and feast on the very fabric of their existence (ie. the paper I'm writing on), and enjoy it! Oh yes, no-one ever said access to this board is free. *Though maybe not for much longer, as I have been experiencing pains in my chest which I suspect indicate that my heart is about to stop. Either that or I've just strained my left pectoral muscle through vaulting over my desk instead of going around it. Ha, I laugh in the face of common sense. Don't ask why I should want to get to the other side of my desk, that doesn't make any sense either.
quote:
G- g-g g Geiger Counter wrote: David Aichin: I see that you once more have gone off the deep end and become psychotic.

Now I've been through this already with the French. This generation's best hope for the antichrist rests with Jeff Heidman and Colonel_Deadmarsh. Someone make sure Berli doesn't allow them in close proximity to each other for any length of time.
10. Much requested feature, not possible due to engine limitations. However, it is modelled to some degree, in that squads never run out of ammo, they just reduce their rate of fire. The number of units of ammo will vary depending on the type of squad in CM2. SMG-heavy squads will get less than rifle-heavy squads. This is as far as the detail will go. Expect more after the engine rewrite (post CM2).
11. Or you can just put in the quotes yourself, as I do. This (substitute square brackets): {quote}{b}Sergeant Saunders{/b} wrote: How do you get the quotes that credits the quote to the right user?{/quote} Turns out as this:
quote:
Sergeant Saunders wrote: How do you get the quotes that credits the quote to the right user?

[ 07-31-2001: Message edited by: David Aitken ]
12. Yes, splitting squads to gain double foxholes is a recognised trick. You can either fool the enemy into thinking you have double the troops, or you can set up a secondary defensive line and then rush your men forward to the primary line.
13. You will notice that when you split a squad, one half remains under the original Sergeant, whereas the other half is allocated the rank of Corporal and a new name. This is how you can tell the difference.
14. Here is a thread started by a certain Mr Jeff Heidman to complain about haltracks being too vulnerable. I believe the game was subsequently changed as a result of this or similar complaints. Are half tracks TOO vulnerable? Here is a thread started by a certain Mr Jeff Heidman to complain about halftracks being invulnerable. I accepted his self-righteousness over the issue until I realised that he may be partly responsible for causing it. I hate to say this, but I think I found a bug... A BIG bug...
15. Couple more links, but not the one I'm thinking of. Shoot from Halftrack Fighting from half-tracks?
16. Vehicle rotation speed was reduced in an update to CM, because tanks were programmed to rotate both their hull and turret to an AT threat, thus bringing the gun to bear as fast. This is a problem with unturreted vehicles, because they take forever and a day to bring the gun round, especially if they are ambushed from the rear. There is a slight bug, in that a tank which spots an enemy AT asset at the end of a turn, will not continue rotating its hull in the next turn unless ordered. Also, one must keep in mind that giving a tank a target order will only rotate its turret. Giving a separate rotate order is necessary to bring the gun to bear ASAP. Indeed it is difficult to turn in place, but is a Jagdpanzer IV or the like going to just sit there and try desperately to swivel round, taking a minute or more to do so in certain terrain, whilst an enemy tank takes leisurely pot shots from behind? No, they're going to move in a small arc and do it much more quickly. Unforunately vehicles will not do this of their own volition in CM. I might add that giving a movement order causes the vehicle to rotate 'in place' (excusable as an abstraction) a good bit faster than a rotate order, although if rotating ASAP is your goal, obviously a movement order suffers from the command delay. This has doubtlessly been discussed before – I may do a search at some point.
17. You say: I want a scout unit!! Search engine says: Scouts Recon Units and Spotting Recon units in CM missing Who uses scouts? Everyone except me?
18. There was a nice thread recently which made mention of German SOP concerning firing from halftracks. I can't find that just now, but I did find an early comment from BTS on the subject. Can mounted infantry fire?
19. As far as BTS was concerned the loss of the leader was not extremely important, as all that happens is that someone else steps up and takes over. An HQ is indeed an officer, a radio man and a couple of aides, but individuals are not tracked, the only effect of losses is on firepower. Likewise a squad will not suffer from the loss of its leader.
20. I just performed the long lost art of doing a search and came up with these: *Motorcycles* No Motorcycles\sidecars in CM? German Motorcycle thing... um... Bicycle troops
21. I notice the tripod on the right is a different configuration of the standard German tripod as found in CM. If it were possible for the MG42's to fire at aircraft in CM, one would have to order them to reconfigure the tripod, which would take a minute or two. In 'ground' mode it couldn't shoot at air targets, and in 'air' mode it couldn't shoot at ground targets. Actually, the manual suggests that infantry will sometimes shoot at aircraft, although I've never seen this and rather hoped they would on the occasion that I lost my AA assets and an aircraft was taking my force of halftracks to pieces. I had a couple of MG42's sitting doing nothing but they didn't fire a shot.
