Question for y'all: are the 'old' default contact icons actually still in use in v2.0 (the ones marked as 'default contact icons' with the big question marks in the pic above)? They don't seem to show up, but I need to be sure.

That's good news. Don't forget to add in the sniper, recon, engineers etc specialized symbols that v2.0 allows for.

Did you guys know the number of icon files went up from 203 to 387!!

As much as I like those 'crystal' icons (and btw; they are Aris's, not mine) I tend to agree with all your points, and particularly that they should be simple and clear. Which means I'll be updating my own version after all!
No idea how long that will take, but knowing me, it can't be that long.

P.S: Any chance to see a version for CMFI?
Nope. I'm not really interested in the Italian front. But this version should -in theory- work for CM:FI as well. Except probably some minor details (like slightly shifted elements) and missing Italian data. Give it a try and let us know, will you?

with the Desktop version the menu selection is the buttons on a plain black background and it looks a bit odd. Is it supposed to be plain like that or have I not installed something?
That is because that portion of the UI is hard-coded. There's nothing I can do about it. It is also like this with the TweakedUI version, but since that is mostly black and grey it wasn't as noticeable as in the Desktop version.

I've just a doubt about the two archives you have at GAJ since one is 12 MB (General) and the other only 5 MB (Tweaked UI)...There are two different versions of the same mod. Same files/number of files, but different look.
The reason the 'Desktop General Edition's RAR file is so much larger is due to the fact that it's a lot more colorful than the (mostly grey) 'TweakedUI' version. As far as I know colors do not compress as effectively as black and white graphics do. Hence the difference in size. Unpacked they are pretty much equal in size.
Does that make sense? Someone will be along shortly to explain that better, I'm sure.

Yes, we're there! Both versions should be available from the repository sometime tomorrow. You can grab them from GaJ's warehouse straight away.

As a matter of fact it's pretty much done. Both versions, even! One element I'm not yet sure about, but I'll probably upload tomorrow or Monday.

Ah, that's a point. I skipped the CM:SF family (hate modern warfare) so luckily that's a non-issue for me.

Your graphics treatment looks stunning.
Was wondering if there some reason you don't put ammo calibre or ranges on the weapons icons? (That's the main reason I use the "other guy's" graphics for the guns etc.)

I don't put ammo caliber or ranges on the weapons because -after playing CM games for about 12 years- I don't need them anymore. I know by now -in general- pretty much what they do, and when to use 'em (on what) and when not to. Aesthetic reasons are probably the biggest factor for me, though.

Most of the features that are new in this version were already in the 'Desktop General Edition' anyway, so the special equipment panel and possibly the command buttons are the only things that need work. Consider it done, boys.

I was wondering Juju if you are going to introduce also that other (brownish leather) texture you already made for 1.0?You mean, am I going to update that variant (the one with all the wood) to v2.0 also? Then the answer is; I wasn't planning to. I made that one just to quench my own modding thirst, and looking at it now I feel it's just too 'gimmicky' for my taste after all. I'm not using it myself, either, obviously.
Edit: But... if there's enough 'call' for me updating that one, I'll probably give in and do it anyway.

When one uses an optional Axis or Allied flavour HQ object, is only this object used with every HQ one uses from then on? Or is it used only with the correct unit?
Yes. Think 'Red' and 'Blue.' Only one icon can be used at any one time for Axis (red) and Allies (blue).
For example, if you install, say, 'HQ Axis SS 1' ALL your German HQ units would show up as 'HQ SS 1,' even if you're playing Heer or Luftwaffe.
Best only use these if you're willing to switch out mods depending on which nation/branch you are currently playing. Otherwise it's best just to stick to the default generic HQ icons.

It's already pretty much done (yes, I'm that fast ). Needs a little tweaking and testing is all. Won't be too long.

Yes, I have. As a matter of act I've just downloaded V2.0. I'll keep you guys posted about any progress.
Edit: Hey, turns out I've already done about 90% of the needed changes based on the FI demo files, so it shouldn't take too long!
