  1. Just to reality check your reality check... I've been running my Mac network with TCP/IP for about a year now. I'm fairly certain that any Mac that will run OS 9 or OS X can handle TCP/IP networking. Any network guru who says that you need to move to an NT based solution because of the Appletalk networking protocall is not well versed with the Mac. But in any case, to get back to the subject of Combat Mission... I'm dismayed to hear that CM:BB will not be OS X compatible. -Lurker [ March 19, 2002, 06:21 PM: Message edited by: Lurker ]
  2. The answer to your question is this... Have the individual squads target the ambush marker. Lurker
  3. OK. CM:BB is coming out for the Mac. Mac users everywhere can rejoice. -Lurker
  4. Another Mac user here... I run CM on my 9600 w/a G3/400 upgrade card. Up until very recently, I had an 8 MB Rage Pro graphics card that seemed to work very nicely with CM. This past week I pulled the Rage Pro and installed a Radeon in its place, and learned that the Rage Pro wasn't doing CM justice. Even without any mods installed, the Radeon enhanced CM is much prettier than the Rage Pro CM. I've also run CM on my PB G3 with a G3/466 upgrade card. The built in RageLT graphics chip doesn't have sufficient power for CM, but it still runs nicely. All in all, I'm a big fan of BTS and their games. I'm pleased that they're making their games for both Macs and PCs. Different strokes for different folks and all that... Lurker
  5. I too would be very interested in seeing some sort of CMBO and CMBB combination. I know that I can't be the only one who is itching to try Western troops and equipment against the Soviet troops and equipment. -Lurker
  6. Un-lurking… There must be a CM2 demo. Remember the feeding frenzy that accompanied the original gold demo? The ever growing thread of death? The massive server overload? I remember it well… Must have demo! Must have demo now! I want to pre-order my copy now in order to minimize my wait for my copy. I’d even be willing to pre-pay on my pre-order. Re-lurking… Lurker
  7. I had been lucky enough to have avoided the dangers of air attack. However, in my most recent operation I took more damage from air attacks during a single battle than I took from any other type of enemy throughout the operation. -I had approximately 50% of my armor destroyed. It seems that armored vehicles with open tops tend to attract strafing runs. -My "ace in the hole" Tiger had its gun disabled before it even got off a shot. -When the Jabo dropped a bomb into the middle of my defenses, it only killed a few infantry and a single tank. However, it broke most of the defenders in that particular area. The enemy was able to counter attack and break my lines wide open. I've never spent the points and felt that I got my money's worth out of my Fighter/Bombers. However, having just had a serious can of whoop-a$$ openned up on me by air attacks, I'm reconsidering my predujice. -Lurker
  8. Let me see... I'm an unsupported bazooka with Elite SS troopers walking toward me? Personally, I'd hide and pray that they didn't see me. If I fire, I'm toast. My only hope of survival is concealment. -Lurker
  9. I think that I begin to see the problem here… It appears that I am expecting my AT guns to survive for much longer than is normal. Perhaps I need to reevaluate my AT gun tactics. Generally, in a defensive role, I place my guns in positions with relatively limited LOS, but try to assure that this LOS covers critical points on the battlefield. Then I place infantry assets in positions to support my AT guns against infantry attacks. Usually, I am able to kill at least one tank with an AT gun. When I get lucky, I’ll be able to kill two or three tanks. However, unless I am losing the scenario, I can generally keep my AT gun intact. So y’all are telling my AT guns are expendable, and that I should expect to lose them… Perhaps I’m putting too much empathy into my game play, but it hurts when I take losses. I make great efforts in order to preserve my forces. I mean, those little pixel men have pixel lives and pixel dreams… Thanks for the answers. -Lurker
  10. Here is a question for all of you tactical gurus… I’m in the midst of playing an operation where I am on the advance. The advance is going well, but I am having serious problems using my towed AT guns on the offensive. During one battle, I had my AT guns set up in what I consider to be good positions. They had limited LOS, but that LOS covered some very important terrain. The problem that I encountered was that the enemy was set up in defensive positions with limited LOS, just like I was. Since I was the one on the attack, I was the one moving into his limited LOS. My AT guns went unused for the entire battle. Having learned my lesson in the previous battle, I set my AT guns on top of a hill with a panoramic view of the entire battlefield. I suppose that the results of my gun’s placement will be obvious to the more experienced readers of the board. I was able to kill a grand total of three enemy tanks with my two AT guns before enemy fire eliminated my guns. I’ve examined my AT gun placement, and haven’t been able to find a deployment pattern that allows my AT guns to get in some good shots, yet survive to be used in any follow on battles. If any of y’all happen to have some suggestions, I’d be more than welcome to listen to your wisdom. -Lurker
  11. Matt, You’ve lost your sense of balance, and have become more Mad than matt. This other Matt, the one you claim is an imposter, has found balance between his Madness and his Mattness. Perhaps it is time to find your center, meld your madness with your mattness, and become self centered. This is the true path to nirvana. -Lurker P.S. I call myself Lurker because I lurked on the board for nearly a year before posting. Since then, I’ve gotten out of hand and posted way too often.
  12. I find that 81mm mortars are an extremely good value. They pack a fairly nice punch, but more importantly for me, they respond quickly. I find that the 81mm mortar is often the tool I use to fix mistakes in my deployments. I can ususally pin the enemy advancing into my under defended areas long enough to rearrange my reseverse. Just my thoughts on the subject. -Lurker
  13. When I saw the headline, Germany faces hamster reprimand, I knew that I had to post it here. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/europe/newsid_1166000/1166675.stm -Lurker
  14. It is actually easy to build up a lot of posts. Look at KMHPaladin’s most recent efforts – a triple post! Sorry, I’ve got to go back to lurking. Don’t want to ruin my reputation. -Lurker
  15. I’ve also been lurking for a fairly long time. Every few months I’ll unlurk and make some posts before fading away. Since I was here to download the latest CM update, I thought I’d do some posting before fading away. I’ve obviously said too much… -Lurker
