  1. Vskalex, I´m on the case. Playing two games at the moment, but will get to you when either of the two ends. Hang in there, you will lose soon enough. GD
  2. Hello there. Sorry for the delay. Been sleeping like a baby for the last couple of weeks. You will get your turns later today. Ghost Dog

  4. Here´s an intersting story that deals with gun rotation, albeit in an extreme situation. At the Oosterbeek highway in the last days of fighting around Arnhem, a 6-pounder Airborne antitank gun troop arrives, with a somewhat reluctant hero, gunner Len Clarke. "Some South Staffs came running from the station - from the north - and said, "There´s some bloody Tiger tanks coming." I told them not to to be so daft; the Germans should´nt have any Tigers here. Lieutenant Glover said he and I would go out and meet the tanks, but I said, "No. You get a single man." I had only been married six months. But no one else would go with him, so I said I would, provided we emptied the jeep of all equipment, so that nothing would get in our way. But we were too late, because a small tank appeared before we moved. It had come along a track parallel with the main road and put its nose out into the road from the station. I fired - he was about 200 to 250 yards away - and hit it. It moved back out of sight. We were going to move the gun to a new position but had only manhandled it halfway across the road outside Schoonoord Hotel when I saw a tank on the station appearing over the top of a small rise about 200 yards away. I shouted, "Turn the gun, drop the rail and get out of the way." They said I could´nt fire it like that; you were supposed to have the cross-stay in to secure the two arms of the trail. I said we had´nt got time for that. The Number Two stayed to load for me; the others got out of the way. I fired three shots at that tank and hit it at the join of the turret and the hull, and it just stopped. Then another tank came up to pass it, and I hit that as it was passing with another three shots and stopped that. Every time I fired, the gun moved back another fifteen feet because because the spade end of the trail was´nt dug in; we were only on the cobbled street. A captain of the South Staffs had seen all this and he took my name and Lieutenant Glover´s and he said he was going to recommend us for decorations. Lieutenant Glover said that I would be made up to sergeant - a field promtion." From the book; Arnehem 1944 by Martin Middlebrook. 5. My vote has to go to the PIAT.For sentimental reasons alone. The last ASL game I played my opponent tried to overrun a PIAT crew with 3 AFV, all of them destroyed by said crew. And of course there is no chance of burning down any trees and buildings. And its good healty fun winding up the apparatus. 6. You gotta be kidding! Can´t belive I missed that one. I have the first edition manual. Looked for that, did´nt find it. Thanks Chupacabra
  7. I don´t know if any of you experienced this; In the process of making a map, you set the ground to low for a bridge to fit in. Probably just me. 1. A universal level set. Raises overall height by +/- . 2. Inclusion of the allied forces from CMBO, if at all possible. I know that the engine for CM2 is´nt compatible with CM1, but I´d sure would love seeing the "old troops" with the new terrrain settings. Bye, senor Droolcup G-D [This message has been edited by Ghost Dog (edited 10-17-2000).]
  8. Michael, you might be thinking of http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/DL/chron.htm#AWorldWarII19391945 They don´t have the FM but alot of the "Lessons learned" publications which are a more hands on approach to tactics. I sent them an email to find out if they had any plans to publish any of the field mauals, and this was their reply; "Sir: Although our ultimate goal is to get public domain items digitized, I do not forsee a time when the FM collection will be done in its entirety. We have paper copies of most all that were published during WWII and will loan many of them through interlibrary loan procedures. If you have a specific manual number and title, just take it to your local library and have them submit an ILL request to us." Shortly therafter I got this; "Sir: Just as I pressed the "Send" button I realized that you were in Sweden. Our interlibrary loan service does not extend overseas, so ignore that part of my last message." Bummer. Anyone know where to find an late edition (WW2 wise) issue of FM 100-5. G-D

  10. Whats going on here then? Ah, I see, a little, how do you Americans put it, yes,, POW WOW. Splendid. I´ll just have Jenkins park the AVRE besides the KT. Anyone for some Marc? Or some Burgundy? Trolls, besides being somewhat dim, also have really bad taste. Leaving good spirits like these spilled out all over la campagne. Oh, there´s Jenkins. A good driver but also a bit lacking in manners. Give him one of those God awful cold Bud´s and he will be allright. Well, well. Salute mes amis, and as the bard said; "O God of battles, steel my soldiers´ hearts. Posses them not with fear. Take from them now. The sense of reck´ning, ere th´opposèd numbers. Pluck their hearts from them. Not today O Lord, O not today, think not upon the fault." Right, lets get plastered.
  11. I always read mr Fionn´s post with interest. I hope he will find his way back here. As for my post above, I was trying to be ironic. G-D
