I'm considering replacing my current graphics card with a passively cooled one - no fans.
I have looked at the GeForce FX5200, the GF4 MX440 is also fan-less but feels a bit old. I haven't looked at ATI cards because of the fog issue in CM. But if anyone has any recommendations I'll consider ATI.
CM is the only game I play, I'll also use the computer to play DVDs. (How much is the graphics card used when showing movies?)
The computer I have is a Shuttle SN45G2V, and there is no room for add-on coolers. The video card is next to the case.
Any suggestions are welcome. I am fully aware that the FX5200 isn't the hottest card around, in fact I'll be downgrading. But low noise levels are important to me.

Thanks for mirroring the file! 20 minutes left @ 33 kbytes/sec. [waiting impaitently]

I've never seen any use for Internet Time until now.
But I think timezone ZULU (UTC/GMT) and military time (24 hour clock) would be appropriate. But it would probably confuse a lot of people too.
Well, approximately 8 hours left....at least we can agree on that.

I guess I never have had any reason to really think about it. Most of the time it's obvious from the context if it's midnight or noon.Originally posted by Captain Wacky:You've never heard of that? I thought it was pretty much standard throughout the world
And I think it's the 24 hour clock that's standard throughout the world.

So 11 PM (23:00) is followed by 12 AM (00:00 / midnight), and then 1 AM (01:00)?
And 11 AM (11:00) will be followed by 12 PM (12:00 / noon), which will be followed by 1 PM (13:00)?
That's not very intuitive, no wonder no-one outside the US understood when it would be released.
-
I think the most confusing part of the AM/PM system is 12 AM / 12 PM. Everything else is strange, but understandable.
I thought it wouldn't be released until noon, now I'll have all day tomorrow to play!

Ex-cell-ent!!!!!
Thanks for the clarification.
But wouldn't it be appropriate to use "Military Time" (24 hr clock) on a forum like this?
Well, I'm off to bed, have to get up at 0600.
-
Now I'm getting really confused!
Is 12 AM at midnight or at lunchtime?
If the people on the US west coast get it at 9 PM, the demo would have to be released at midnight, right? And they would get it at 9 PM tonight (August 31) If it is released at noon, they would get it at 9 AM (in the morning) and the time in central Europe would be 6 PM (18:00). But if it is released at midnight (in 9 hrs 40 min) I would be able to download it tomorrow morning.

Do I make sense? probably not....

I think I'll recycle this Combaiku, I've got a feeling it'll be a appropriate description of tomorrow's events.

OK, this is not supposed to be a discussion of whether units should be named X or Z. Personally I still hope the
SS-Weihnachtsgrenadierewill be included.
I just wanted to bring to your attention that Waffen-Grenadier units really existed. I haven't seen this mentioned earlier.
Here is an example:
Bulgarisches Waffen-Grenadier Regiment der SS
Check this page for more WG (and other) units:
http://skalman.nu/third-reich/ss-other.htm
So, in some cases it will actually be a correct term to use.

I was thinking of buying a Mac, but the reason I have stayed away from Macs in the past is partly due to their operating system. Now, with OS X, I am seriously thinking of Mac as an replacement for Windows. But if I can't play CM on my new computer, it doesn't feel like a great idea anymore. Maybe I'll buy a Mac and use for everything else, and only use my windows computer for CM...Originally posted by karch:By not buying a copy, your vote is saying to BF, "Don't bother developing for Mac's any more". If enough people do that, then there will be NO next version in OSX to buy.
I understand the reasons for not making an OS X version, I just wanted to voice my opinion even though I'll will not buy a Mac version this time.

There are buses that depart from the train station. I suppose they are somewhat synchronised with the trains (we took the train from London). Talk to the bus driver and you'll probably be dropped off right outside the museum. When we were finished at the museum we took a taxi back since we didn't want to wait for the bus (not many buses in the afternoon at that time). It wasn't expensive, and it was well worth it after a day of walking and gawking.Originally posted by Max Power:So a question for the Bovington vets, what's the logistics from the Wool rail station to the museum? Bus, taxi, walk, hijacking, or what?

Ha! None of you noticed that it was a picture from World War 1!!!
French soldiers make a gas and flame attack on German trenches in Flanders, Belgium, during WWI.

If the round hits short of the target, the gunner (or rather the observer) can see where the impact is and the sight can be adjusted accordingly, which should improve the probability of an hit with the next round.Originally posted by AnonymousOxide:undershooting enemy armor (and such) is better than overshooting it, because when you undershoot, the AP or HE round will hit the ground in front of the enemy armor, kicking dirt in it's face, which is obviously better than sending a round wizzing past it's hatch.
If the round overshoots, it probably will be hard to see where it finally impacts.

Cool movies! But is there supposed to be sound?

Interesting idea!Originally posted by Berlichtingen:For instance, if a scenario is set in Germany and the scenario designer indicates that the civilian population has not evacuated, the AI becomes much more careful in its firing... including overriding player orders to fire blind into buildings
I think this would be true for German troops, but Allied troops would probably be more prone to destroy suspected buildings once the fighting were inside Germany's borders.
Graphics card without fan?
in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Posted
I found the cd that came with the card. There is a overclock utility, but maybe I'll underclock it and put on a heatsink. Or try to lower the fan speed.
You're probably right, it will most likely hang/corrupt the graphics before it dies permanently.
Hmm...worth a try.
Airflow is pretty good, cpu is 40 degrees C with cpu/case fan (integrated in a heat pipe cooling apparatus) on lowest speed. Inner temps (hd, power, case) are slightly below that.
