  1. I found the cd that came with the card. There is a overclock utility, but maybe I'll underclock it and put on a heatsink. Or try to lower the fan speed.

You're probably right, it will most likely hang/corrupt the graphics before it dies permanently.

    Hmm...worth a try.

Airflow is pretty good, cpu is 40 degrees C with cpu/case fan (integrated in a heat pipe cooling apparatus) on lowest speed. Inner temps (hd, power, case) are slightly below that.

  2. I'm considering replacing my current graphics card with a passively cooled one - no fans.

I have looked at the GeForce FX5200, the GF4 MX440 is also fan-less but feels a bit old. I haven't looked at ATI cards because of the fog issue in CM. But if anyone has any recommendations I'll consider ATI.

CM is the only game I play, I'll also use the computer to play DVDs. (How much is the graphics card used when showing movies?)

The computer I have is a Shuttle SN45G2V, and there is no room for add-on coolers. The video card is next to the case.

Any suggestions are welcome. I am fully aware that the FX5200 isn't the hottest card around, in fact I'll be downgrading. But low noise levels are important to me.

  3. Now I'm getting really confused!

Is 12 AM at midnight or at lunchtime?

If the people on the US west coast get it at 9 PM, the demo would have to be released at midnight, right? And they would get it at 9 PM tonight (August 31) If it is released at noon, they would get it at 9 AM (in the morning) and the time in central Europe would be 6 PM (18:00). But if it is released at midnight (in 9 hrs 40 min) I would be able to download it tomorrow morning.

Do I make sense? probably not....

  4. OK, this is not supposed to be a discussion of whether units should be named X or Z. Personally I still hope the

    SS-Weihnachtsgrenadierewill be included.

I just wanted to bring to your attention that Waffen-Grenadier units really existed. I haven't seen this mentioned earlier.

    Here is an example:

    Bulgarisches Waffen-Grenadier Regiment der SS

Check this page for more WG (and other) units:

So, in some cases it will actually be a correct term to use.

I was thinking of buying a Mac, but the reason I have stayed away from Macs in the past is partly due to their operating system. Now, with OS X, I am seriously thinking of Mac as an replacement for Windows. But if I can't play CM on my new computer, it doesn't feel like a great idea anymore. Maybe I'll buy a Mac and use for everything else, and only use my windows computer for CM...

I understand the reasons for not making an OS X version, I just wanted to voice my opinion even though I'll will not buy a Mac version this time.

There are buses that depart from the train station. I suppose they are somewhat synchronised with the trains (we took the train from London). Talk to the bus driver and you'll probably be dropped off right outside the museum. When we were finished at the museum we took a taxi back since we didn't want to wait for the bus (not many buses in the afternoon at that time). It wasn't expensive, and it was well worth it after a day of walking and gawking. smile.gif

If the round hits short of the target, the gunner (or rather the observer) can see where the impact is and the sight can be adjusted accordingly, which should improve the probability of an hit with the next round.

If the round overshoots, it probably will be hard to see where it finally impacts.

    Interesting idea!

I think this would be true for German troops, but Allied troops would probably be more prone to destroy suspected buildings once the fighting were inside Germany's borders.
