1. Top shelf Tequilas are my favorite sipping drink for battle. Some would say that the reserve Tequilas are very Scotch like.

Patron is a favorite for me. But when I can cough up the money I'll get a bottle of

"Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia"

It's incredible. And please, don't confuse it with that other crap they make, the regular

    Jose Cuervo Gold. Blech.

    Mmmm...wish I had some now.

A show on the History Channel.

Then in the Battle of Britain, if the German bomber group didn't accidently drop their bombs on London, the Germans would have probably beaten the British. For Churchill decided to bomb Berlin which infuriated Hitler causing Hitler to change the plan to commence bombing Britain's cities. If Hitler didn't get infuriated, then the plan would have never changed.

Those are just some of the examples.

    Accidently dropped bombs on London??????

I had *always* understood that it was Churchill who decided to hit Berlin first. And after that, Hitler was so pissed he changed from military targets to London.

    Anyone???

    P.S. ignore the spelling.

    Errr...APCs??? You mean half tracks?

Their purpose is to move troops quickly and/or over long distances.

    Oh man, that reminds me!!

I was doing watch one night, Lackland Laser in hand going down the bay. Suddeny one of these guys sits up in bed, eyes wide open. Scared the *crap* out of me.

    Then he starts talking -

    "It's not fair, I can't march!! It's not fair!!!"

    Then he layed back down.

God damn that was some funny stuff!! smile.gif

I'd love to go back to Lackland now and just be a spectator.

I downloaded the new demo yesterday (In the hope that maybe I would like it better). I have played each of the demo scenario's two times, (One as each side) but I still don't like the game. Can you people tell me whether the demo is or is not representative of the game? Thanks in advance...

That is the gold demo. Meaning, it's based on the final code. If you don't like that, odds are very low you will like the full game.

Also, what is it that you like about combat mission that makes it a better game to you than CC.

Above all else, I HATE ALL "clickfest" games. And to me, that's all the CC series is. Click here, point there, try to click faster than the computer can. No other kind of game format is more annoying to me. Hell, Im surprised the CC series doesn't have you building factories so you can build more "rocket tanks". Ugh.

The historical innacuracies in the CC series are well documented and make a mockery of WWII. The rocket tanks in CC4 are just beyond ridiculous in how they run around engaging armor. Ugh.

How feasible is it to make a Pacific mod, Vietnam mod, etc...

Simply put, it's not possible to make such mods in CM.

My favorite was the same Ssgt Martineez I mentioned. He was outside the dorm room doing the usual game of trying to get the newbie to open the door without showing proper ID.

His line to the newbie through the small glass window?

"When I get in there Im going to rip your arm off and beat you with it."

Oh man, I about lost it. Too damned funny!!

FWIW - the kid held out until he showed ID. Boy was he scared to open the door though! smile.gif

Hey Phoenix, I was in basic in October of '83, my normal TI was a Staff Sergeant Morin but I think a guy named Martinez was there for one day. Was he about 5'6" with a mustache?

October 83? No ****? I got there October

30th of 1983!! I think Grenda was just going off. I recall standing in line as a "rainbow" and spotted a newspaper stand. The paper said something like, "US Invades Island!"

Anyway, yeah, Martineez had hispanic features. A mustache, about 5 6 is right. He looked up at me when he yelled at me. Which seemed to be often. smile.gif

He reminded me a bit like Charles Bronson!

    Were you in the 3707?

If so, do you recall the senior drill instructor?

    "Sr Master Sergeant Fury"

No ****. That was his name!

Had a big old scar on his face. Guy scared the **** out of me when he walked by.

What in the hell is a DI?

    A DI?

Well lets see, I was in the airforce and there it was a "TI"

It's been 17 years since I was in basic training.

    My TI's were -

    Staff Sgt Martineez

    T-Sgt Devore

Airman Hay (A gal mind you)

    You'll never forget the names.

I'll never forget Martineez making me salute the urinal. 50 times. In front of the squadron. Very nice! smile.gif

Oh, and the Army and Marine DI's make Airforce ones look like Boy Scout leaders. Have fun!

  9. All I hear about is Army and Marines here.

When I was 19 I wanted to get into this growing little field called "telecommunications". Wasn't sure how to do it. Saw an ad in the paper.

I hooked up with local Air National Guard unit. Got into Wideband Radio (microwave stuff) and went off to school for 6.5 months to learn it. All paid of course.

Came back and spent the rest of the 5 years in my Combat Communications sqaudron. No airplanes. No flying. Dirt and radios.

A few months after returning I was hired by a very large telecom company on the spot. That was 15 years ago and Im still with em.

I feel unless you want to make a career out of the military you may want to get in a career field that carries over a bit to civilian life.

Disregard the results of the ASVAB test. They mean nada. Pick a career field you want to be in and get a guarantee that's what you get.

I was in basic training with many clueless zoomies in the regular Air Force who went in on an "open contract". Basically they let the Air Force decide what job they would get. Oddly enough most became security police. (Like an MP) And Im being polite when I said most of those guys weren't the sharpest tools in the shed. smile.gif

    Anyway, that's my .02

I think the Guard/Reserves is a great option. Ignore any he man he man bull**** about

"Be a man, join the REAL Army".

Be a man and do what is right for you.

Let's all put out thinking caps on shall we?

CM2 is going to be another GAME. It's not something you patch CM1 with.

  11. Oh ferrrr cryin out loud.

You bloody newbie Johnny Come Latelys.

    Get a life!

The game ships in a couple weeks. There are some of us who have been waiting months, some have been waiting YEARS.

Listening to this whining blather makes me sick. Go get a job or do something useful.

Christ. You'd think Manieri has posessed a dozen or so people here.

    Argh.

After playing CM for a while, there is only one feature I am missing: I often would like to check the LOS from a spot where currently no unit is located. I know, I could do that via CTRL-click and View 1, but that is a little cumbersome and gives me no idea about the distance from that spot to an enemy unit. When I have selected a friendly unit, I could do this via the menu. IMHO, this feature would really add to the game play.

    Fugeddaboutit.

BTS wisely has decided not to put this feature in the game. It's totally unrealistic during game play and would not "enhance" anything.

When you deploy your units during set up you can do it. But not during a game. And that's the way it should be.

Also, and I know you grognard wargaming types will bite my head off for this. A close Combat 4 style "slow realtime" play mode would probably go quite a ways to making this more of a mainstream title. (As an option of course)

    ARRRGH!!!

I am NO grognard, but I swear to god if this ever became a "real time" style game I would turn the CD into a coaster in a split second. And I mean a coaster reserverd for BAD beer!!! Not my good beer!!
