1. Flight sims will reach thier hey day when we have full wrap around screens availabe for home use. Think of yourself in a bubble.

Until then, they're good procedure trainers.

I actually have an idea to make one. Imagine an umbrella where you are sitting on the inside. The dome is opaque. A projector on the outside projects an image on the dome. There you go. Problems to tackle: Can the image be focused on a curved dome? The image must be distorted so that when it falls on a curved surface, the image is coherent.

  2. Here's a suggestion Kman. First off, thanks for you initiative. Great work.

Do you think it is possible to have the upcoming movie start loading and put itself in pause before the current movie finishes playing? Once the current movie finishes, the new movie is instantly unpaused creating the illusion of a non stop movie.

  3. Madmatt, I have zone alarm. When I shut down zone alarm, I did get to the host screen waiting for opponent area. With zone alarm on, the screen did freeze,(well I was able to move my mouse but that's all.I could not escape back to my desktop.), without an error messase.

I did see an IP number with zone alarm shutdown and it was the IP number of my 56k modem not my cable modem. However, after reading the readme again, closely, I understand that should not be a problem as long as the other player enters my cable modem IP number.

    Thanks

    Problem solved

  4. From the README:

quote:
In order to get the correct IP address you may need to manually run Winipcfg in Win9x/ME (from a command line) or ipconfig /all for Windows 2K Advanced Server (also from a command line).

I pressed start, then entered "Winipcfg" in the command line and pressed ok.

The readme has more info too.

  5.
quote:
Kind of disappointing, I don't believe Shermans were supposed to be that good

It goes to show you probably why either side won *most* of the time, shear numbers. Sure technology had the advantage at optimal conditions. However most places, most of the time, battles were determined by what? Numbers. That's my feeling. smile.gif

  6. Why not give a player points for controling the victory flag each turn? You can even go further than that. You can give more points for certain turns. Thus you can focus where and *when* a player puts thier effort. If you want to allow leeway, spread out points over many turns to allow manouver.

Allowing players to rush at the last moment and profiting from it leads to and encourages the tactic. Worse of, players start feeling cheated and the gamey tactics logic starts to rear its head again.

  7.
quote:
What would the difference be between a change in a unit's status from 'rested' or 'ready' to 'alerted' and the C&C line beginning to flash?

The flashing line would tell you that the HQ is having trouble coordinating because the units radius is shrinking. If you don't do some thing, the line will turn from red to black. There would be no change to a rested or ready status. The flashing is a sign of impending loss of control.

What differentiates this from the system that is now in place is that an HQ unit would have to move closer to units if needed. One position for an HQ will not promise control in all situations.

Would we want to get 'bogged down' in moving the HQ constantl? Would it make the game more fun or 'old'. Questions that I can't answer.

  8.
quote:
Hey iggi was it worth the $29 ?

    Tell us about the vids

I bought it today so it has not arrived yet. What interests me is that the films are "five original Nazi newsreels from 1941 to 1945." So there won't be the allied slant to events. Of course there should be a German slant but that should give the film a little omph smile.gif. We'll see.
