Nice sombre mood there.

We're just going to back to the quality vs quantity arguement. Germany could not have won because Russia was too large and America was too far away to smash in one quick blow.
In contrast, it's not that the French were stubid that they lost. They were an arms length from the initial blow. They absorbed the strongest blow.
Point being that no matter how good your men and machines are, bad strategy will lose the day.

Ok then I'm glad that Honey doesn't work for statistics Canada.
Honey put too much importance on the event of pershings being there. Suppose that hamsters were there? Would you say that hamsters are better?

See what I mean? There is no connection.

In one bar an oldman stood next to a young stud. The two watched as two lovely ladies sat next to them. The stud asked the girls if they would like a drink? The girls said no thanks. The stud said why are you here then?

Why would you think that I'm trying to flame you when I'm only referring to the quote?
I think his(ambrose) logic twists the data and comes to a false conclusion. Hitler attacked Russia when his troopers had summer clothes. How dumb can he be? Strategy rules. I just don't agree with Ambrose.

"In one (southvietnam) town, Private thu stood next to an
elderly southvietnam man and a ten-year-old boy. As the NorthNam brand-new bicycles
rumbled by the boy said, 'American Jets are better'. The old man looked down at him and asked,'If
American Jets are better,
why aren't they here?
-
That's like saying...in a south vietnamese town, a little south vietnam boy sees North Nam soldiers with bicycles and says ' US jets are better'. His dad says...well you get the point.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>'If
German tanks are better,
why aren't they here?' "<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Because there were not enough of them to go around. It was not the tanks that were worse but the strategy.

I actually have that site as one of my favorites. There are great pics there and there is military music there. I honestly don't know why he was jumped on when he linked that site. The later pics that he posted clearly had the intent to bother people. For that he deserved to be banned.

I had two platoons ready to *assault* a victory flag. I assumed that enemy infantry were in the area,(it was a patch of woods).
I had two 5.5 inch spotters lay some arty down on the Victory flag in preparation for the attack. After a couple of turns of prep arty, I decided to move my spotters to a better spot. At the same time I galantly ordered my two platoons to charge the now damaged VF.
As my boys were charging in, I was surprised that the enemy had perfectly timed an arty srtike on my advancing infantry. Gee I thought, this guy predicted my assault, pretty clever of him. Half my guys were cut down or panicked. It was then that I realised that I hadn't cancelled my own 5.5 inch arty.
I had inadvertantly called fire on my troops.
I thought moving the spotters would cancel the arty mission. It hadn't.

Also, if my squad fails and dies, what difference does it make how they die? They're dead or alive. Winning or losing. Think big.
-
Portraying individual soldiers is outside the scope of this game.
Can you imagine the AI issues that will arise? The squad members' actions will be anylised and criticised. So why go in that direction?
-
Hmmm , I'll think I'll go have a beer

What is it about alcohol that makes one have to post he's drunk?

LOS I know you don't agree with what they did. I know you are studying thier train of thought.
As a common Joe, it definitely puts them in a bad light. You're right that the Russians will be upset for the lack of security.
What bozo Russian General is in charge? If they had spaced the transports with escorts, the troops can counterattack. The russians have alot to learn. Suprised that thier Afghan experience didn't help them.
-
No it is not acceptable behavior. Where's the haig court now? That video is proof of murder. Why didn't they just leave him there or tie him to a tree?
This site should be sent to every magor TV site with that particular video as a link.
Is this new? How come we never hear about this **** happening on TV? Do the TV stations support US propaganda(Bill Clinton wishy washy avoid making a decision crap,no balls and no respect from the international criminals).
This crap is too close to Russia's back yard. It's Afganistan all over again. This is something Putin has to get a handle on. It could get complicated.

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>"The Russian Hell in 2000" is excellent combat footage.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
I have to agree on that. Like I said, all soldier should see this. Not because it's fun but because it's a part of reality and it opens eyes.
Sure there are two sides to the story but yesterday when I watched one of the samples, I saw the innocent Russian soldier who had surrendered executed. The guy had surrendered, why did they have to kill him. What if his mother sees that video?
The rebels are crazy to put stuff like that on the net. I didn't watch more videos cause I thought it was so pathetic to see how low these people were.

When TCP/IP comes out, I hope that a ladder system is part of it. Ideally the players enter the info and once the game is over, the ladder is automatically updated. Perhaps the player can enter a website address where the info will be automatically sent to.
Things should speed up with TCP/IP

I just saw the part where the captured Russian was executed in cold blood.
Back in the 80's, I thought the Soviets were the bad guys. I was wrong.
I can't loath those terrorist enough now.
-
Soldiers should take a good long hard look at this footage to know what happens when you lose. Good training material. Every Russian soldier should see this.
Map edge hugging IS historical!

Same arguement can go for the defense. If you place an anti tank gun on the flank and point it inward, you protect the gun's flank.
Going down the middle is very dangerous. Especialy in the early game. Unless there is a tall hill in the middle. Then you can send a scout on a suicide run up the hill to get mucho info.
Hell if you are worried about flanking moves, just hide zooks on the map sides. Near roads, behind hills etc.
