I wonder if I'm the only African who has ordered it?

Thanx Jason - the 1;2;3 enemy figures will solve the Faust problem, but you also say that you have all the information re how many casualties you have caused ((CORRECTION just reread your post & saw you were talking about your own casualties)) - where do you get that from? I've checked my own units kill/casualty? box (whatever it's called), but got the feeling that they don't always reflect all the hits (or am I wrong?). BTW - does anyone know how many men the german (8) men squads have to lose before they lose their fausts - or is it random? [This message has been edited by Johan Brittz (edited 12-15-99).]

It also bugs me that enemy killed simply disappear. It forces me to replay countless times while watching every enemy squad (if I'm lucky 2 or 3 at a time) to see who jerks in order to ascertain which squads are taking casualties - quite important since the german squads seems to lose their fausts after losing x no of men. In other words the lack of realism is affecting my gameplay. Ha this ended up sounding a lot more serious that I intended, but I would like to add my voice to the ones asking for some sort of symbol (personally I would prefer to see each body there, but I know there are various constraints) And I know its for later. Not too important, but it would make gaming easier (and more realistic?)

Soldier's Christmas (No CM content)
Johan Brittz replied to A Arabian's topic in Combat Mission Archive #1 (1999)
Dear A - I read your poem and cried so much that I went to find a hankerchief and - lo and behold - I found one of my old medals under my socks. That reminded me of exactly the same situation. It was in the 70's and we've just invaded Angola in the eternal quest to return peace and democracy to the dark continent. We killed about 50 SWAPO that day (mostly women and children, but you know how it goes - you can never be too carefull) and that night of the 24th I was sleeping with my head resting on one of the female corpses stomachs (they make the best cushions since they stay soft the longest in the African heat) when I dreamt (or maybe it was real) that Father Christmas visisted me and I swear he also cried... So I know exactly what your poem means -
Results of 1st Person Game Play!!!! WOW!!!!!
Johan Brittz replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #1 (1999)
BTS - what's the odds of providing this as an option for PBEM games in a later (much later!) version/patch. Sounds great - getting closer and closer to the real thing all the time. Just remarked to an opponent that I've never experienced the viciousness of combat in any other game as I'm doing now (watching some single man vet squads fighting it out in rooms with my opponents 2 men squads) AGH!! -
Disappeared - wanted dead or alive - has'nt sent a file for a week. Anybody knows if he's still kicking <yakstock@erols.com>
-
Anybody interested in a mirror PBEM (play both sides at the same time) - preferably Riesberg - I still need to play the Last as Amis. Reason for Europe/Africa is that I'm in Cape Town and hopefully we'll be able to get 2 mails in some nights. Well if you're from somewhere else - what the hell - always time for another game

You know it....when....

Your wife shouts from the front door that she's "HAD ENOUGH!!" and she "Taking the kids!!" etc - you get up to placate her just as a Hellcat moves into your Tigers sight and you never see your family again... -
M18's buttoned up and all support surrendered. My infantry all over the place, but I cant get close enough to kill them for as soon as I assign a movement path where I hope the M18 will end up after retreating once again it move's somewhere else and my "stupid" infantry storms right passed!! This has also happened to my infantry attacking some mortar crews in a foxhole. Once my infantry reached the foxhole and the previous occupants ran away my poor idiots did'nt know what to do - just sat there shooting a couple of shots at the mortar crew some meters away. How about a "Follow that MFer and kill him DEAD" command?

Want to disembark troops at a specific point? In a previous thread it was suggested that I drive to the point slow down and the troops will disembark when closest to their destination and then the AFV will drive on. Did a test with 3 AFV - moved all 3 to a destination - slowed down - then turned and moved the AFV's 90o away! so that the troops/AI must know that this is the closest point. Only one crowd got off! 1) I might be missing something (also tested this 3 times), but I don't seem to be able to stop/pause an AFV in the middle of it's moves - i.e. Move fast - move - pause/stop - move - move fast etc. which would give the infantry time to get off. In the one case where it worked the AI seemed to stop the HT by itself. Would dearly like to be able to stop/pause in the middle (or anywhere) in a movement phase. 2) Would prefer if while I'm defining the AFV movement phase I could say exactly where I want my troops to disembark. E.g. move fast - move - stop - disembark (troops going there) - move fast

Odd thing noticed during a traffic jam

Peter/Stu - you know guys I think Rugby won this time - I and a lot of locals, press etc has been getting tired of the rugby league feel that has been developing out of the Super 12. The Bok games has been close on boring this cup and I never thought I would ever say that - FGS 2 games and only one try! TG for the French - maybe they'll reawaken the old running spirit in all of us. Hope tonight we can show the world how it should be played (by both teams) -
of a movement phase - can it be done?

er, something a little less important

Where will the Demo be posted?

Relax guys - not a lot of things that I take seriously - except for Rugby and my babies dirty nappies and no beers in the fridge and ... Oh - quite a lot of things that I take seriously -

Oh I thought you were serious - so I went to about 23 boards so far and attacked them but good - told them their games sucked and that they should stop selling it because CM has got prettier pictures... -
Marines Purchasing New Wargame
Johan Brittz replied to Ken Talley's topic in Combat Mission Archive #1 (1999)
Maybe some-one should ph the USMC and tell them there's a new kid on the block - Nope - scratch that - might delay the gold. -
Off topic, but I'm wondering: How does military computer (MF?) wargames compare to PC wargames (CM in particular) - see that HPS was asked to design one for some-one. If you can't talk about your own countries state of affairs - what do you know about others eg. Russians. Is there a big diff.? BTW Ken - thanx for the plum higher up, but after reading some of the excellent comments and especially the references casually thrown about (USMCMFM 1034.5tx etc - is that US Marine Corp Mother f manual?) - I've quietly downgraded myself to a SLAG (****ty learner appy grog) [This message has been edited by Johan Brittz (edited 10-25-99).]

Her O - Whatya saying? Should the Grogs jump on opposition boards pointing out the flaws in their offerings and then point the duly humbled masses to CM for salvation? Can't say I find fault with that, but TG I'm not a Grog - sounds like heavy fighting that will eat into gaming time Your manifesto sounds a bit Anarchistic (and that's not a critisism either - there we're a time and place for anarchy throughout history - when the atrophy of mediocrity became unbearable?) Visited an Anarchist site the other day. Guy suggested 10 ways to get back at someone. One of the ways that struck my fancy was to send some-one to your victims front door to keep him busy, while you sneek into his back door and **** in his fridge... As an appy Grog I would imagine that would qualify as an Assault from the Rear. [This message has been edited by Johan Brittz (edited 10-25-99).] -
Now if I had to choose between jannie De Beer and Jonah Lomu I wonder who I would choose ...hehe See the poms had a big billboard outside the Boks hotel with a springbok (gazelle) and words to the effect: "small antelope good for hunting" or something to that effect - Quite correct off course - we love hunting... Mandella must've paid for the board - can't think of anything better as a motivational tool - thanx whoever it was

Found the thread re counter ambush techniques below quite interesting. Won't the grogs (or any-one for that matter) educate us lesser mortals by detailing some more tactic used somewhere in a game or real life which we might be able to use in CM. Maybe list the obvious ones first for the newbies and then the more obscure, lesser used ones for interest sake. Anything to soften the ANGUISH OF WAITING

Awfully quiet around here...

Normally had 5 or 6 EF/WF PBEM's going, but never replaced the opponents/games as they finnished. Downloaded a couple of demo's, but my heart is'nt in it. TG for the Rugby World Cup - helps a bit, but meanwhile my phonebill is running up - I'm keeping the modem going most of the nights - popping in every now and then to check if Godot has arrived
