  1. Bens right. I remember seeing screen shots of it and it was just wireframe buildings, etc. Doesnt sound real glamorous, but it would be great for printing out your overhead map, which is what I'm looking for a good way to do....
  2. I'm playing an ironman CM scenario and would like to put together an overhead map for printing out and "grease penciling". I remember some time ago someone came out with an ultra-low-res terrain that looked like the old greenscreen type wireframe views but I can't find it. Anyone know where it might currently be? Theres a topic from ages ago but the web page referenced is no more. Thoughts? TIA, Adam Arabian [ 06-04-2001: Message edited by: A Arabian ]
  3. I would definitely prefer that it be in the game, but I presume you guys know that a database was put together as an excel document with screenshots of the units, costs, and all the raw data (including some additional info such as how common it was, etc) by someone as a third party DB. I don't recall the URL offhand (anyone?) but I've found it invaluable. As far as penetration charts, those were originally intended to be shipped on the CD, but apparently it would have been a multi-CD set of its own prevented it from happening.
  4. So, 007 is #2? Well, the real question is.... "Who does number two work for!?" A. Arabian Boy. This thread is doing wonders for my sense of maturity... [ 04-12-2001: Message edited by: A Arabian ]
  5. Aww, you guys are making it too easy... <---- Actually I have a theory that all of us that were pre-ultimate bulletain board system were listed as having signed on on the first date, so were just numbered alphabetically. If you look, I actually have a lower number than BTS itself... Oh, and if you want to know your number without posting, just do a search for your previous posts - it'll show up there.
  6. Dorsch and Heidman, You guys are both right on. We don't know anything about this game. Hell - it could be GOOD for bts: 1. Gives them incentive to keep moving forward, and 2. They may get free advertising if GI Combat.. sucks when the game mags say "well, this one is rotten, but if you want something thats better, check out CM...". There are literally maybe 30 posts on their BBS total, and half are part of the flame war. Its true - anyone came in here and did the same they would get eaten alive.
  7. Heres an interesting note - logins from yahoo.com have been banned from their BBS...
  8. One of the most interesting things I saw on their BBS was that one of their programmers was "david miller", the genius in charge of CC IV. I can hope its a good game, but I'm doubtful. Its pedigree just doesnt impress me. A. Arabian
  9. Its unlikely the USE of DU will be banned worldwide (per Kip's statement). Its just too useful of a weapon. Even nations that can afford to be more pacifistic (r.e. land mine ban) undoubtedly recognize the need for a shell that can effectively penetrate armor. What might happen is that the PRODUCTION of NEW DU will be banned - which is probably just fine with the majority of the nations - the US hasn't manufactured new DU stocks since the late '70s. New munitions (in the US) have been from old DU stocks built up from 1955 (approx) to 1979 (I think thats when it ended). What I've been wondering though is, since this is the case, why would there be a noticeable degredation in DU shell performance over time? And if there were, why wouldn't that result in a desire to continue production of new DU stocks?
  10. Whew. Thank goodness I'm not the only one to remember that, Chupacabra. Could still be completely wrong, though...
  11. Doug's right. This one, although not quite as notorious as showing dead soldiers and picking up enemy weapons, came up a number of times "back in the day". The discussions on it (as I recall) were excellent, and I'd like to add one more point to the conclusions that Doug listed: 4. The effectiveness of sandbags in preventing armor penetration, regardless of the ammo type, was next to nil, and was possibly actually counterproductive in certain cases. Its effectiveness (roughly quoting BTS) was "in (artifically) inflating the crew morale". So basically, it really wouldn't have different effects with different ammo, it pretty much had no effect with any ammo (this due to the relative strength of the sandbags vs. armor penetration properties). I seem to recall that in certain cases (shaped charges?) it actually made the penetration of the weapon BETTER as it provided a standoff distance such taht the charge would have superior penetration. But a search would give you better information than my feeble memory . Suffice it to say this one was done to death, and although a mod would be cool, don't expect it to show up anytime soon in CM....
  12. Mensch - maybe you should just open a Tim Hortons franchise in Hannover
  13. Well, if we're opening up this discussion to beyond WWII, you can't neglect what was unquestionably the greatest war film of our time... Stripes Adam Arabian --- Sgt. Hulka is our big toe.... [This message has been edited by A Arabian (edited 01-09-2001).]
  14. Well, according to my DSL service, I suck. Well, not those words in particular, but thats the idea. They don't give out routable IPs - they cheat and do what Karch said in his first post. Ahh well. Not the end of the world I suppose, but it is annoying. Thank all.
  15. I guess I should amend my previous statement - although I think most meeting engagements would begin with skirmish lines, youre right... sneak attacks and ambushes are fair game, whereas crappy first turns are just plain hokey.
