  1. We have all heard mention of the Emails going back and forth between Fionn and Martin during their battle. I would love to be able to marry those Emails with turns, just to see the kind of ribbing that was going on. Well guys? Huh? Huh?
  2. What is not a myth is that Typhoon pilots tried to come in from behind so the rockets had a chance of hitting the thinner rear armor. Research has fixed the probably cause of Michael Wittman's demise in his Tiger as a rocket through the back deck, igniting in the engine compartment, and eliminating the crew in seconds.
  3. I would like to personally thank the both of you for your excellent AARs. Not only was this immensely enjoyable reading, but hopefully we readers will survive a little better from your insightful commentary. If either of you make it to the Wash.DC area, drop me a note and I'll buy a round... or two... or three

  7. See what you've done BTS?!? I spent half an hour in a software store today. Lots of new releases out, but in the end it was "Why buy this now, when CM comes out it'll just gather dust." A week ago, I did get Tiberian Sun, mainly for play against folks at work, my son at home, and brother across the net. But it's just marking time...
  8. Fionn, I'd just mount it (the Panther barrel) to the roof of the car... Outta be alot of clear lanes ahead of you that way... [This message has been edited by Herr Oberst2 (edited 09-19-99).]
  9. Speaking of wives, get this... a wife who contributes to my miserable attempts at "grogging". For my birthday this past Friday, among other things, she bought me "Panzer Truppen", Vols 1 & 2. Now is THAT a cool wife or what?
  10. Hey Ithai (hope I spelled it correctly), I was feeling pretty studly with my dual Celeron 400's under NT with the new Abit BP-6 motherboard. Then a guy at work one-ups me by doing the same upgrade motherboard, but dropping in dual Celeron 500's. Celerons use the same SMP capable core as the PII, although Intel plans to tweak the Celeron core, rendering it non-SMP, since dual Celeron machine setups were killing PII and PIII sales... For apps that make use of multi-processors, that is a killer machine. For multi-processors, all I'm hoping is that CM will use em if it sees em (hint hint). 11. Speaking of nasty armor, as the Jerries, I hope never to see a Matilda shooting cannister at my infantry running around. Jeez, that stuff decimates platoons if it catches them.
  12. If I were commanding that phalanx of Shermans and saw that, all the Jerries would hear would be Monty Python re-runs... "Run away!!" "Run away!!"
  13. "It don't matter how you do it, just do it like you know it." It's not a wartime quote, but a good one nonetheless. Oh, and "Badges? Badges? We don't need no stinkin badges!" [This message has been edited by Herr Oberst2 (edited 09-14-99).]
  14. If you play a cookbook offense or defense, then a scenario will get stale after a few plays. My experience (with another game with a few C's in it) is that people are different. Yes, playing the computer, I may be able to wax several scenarios easily after practice. A person, who knows what the "battlefield conventions" are, is much more likely to mix in something unexpected, or "non-doctrine", just to throw the game out of a doctrine directed set of moves. Reread the ongoing comments with Fionn and Martin, and you'll find their analyses of their opponents quite insightful. Yes there has been a frightful cost of US units left to fight to the end, where other players might have drawn back to play a more hit-and-run defense. I think the key to designing a "good" scenario is to make the force levels on both sides adequate for, but not assured of victory. We have all seen that massed artillery can be murderous. Would I have done that? Probably not. After seeing the effects, will I do it? Maybe... and its the maybes that keep a well designed scenario playable over and over. My $0.02.
