I'd like the names of the scenarios where you have been defeated by the AI when playing as the suggested side? Not where the AI presented a good challenge but where it administerd a good old "north Georgia ass whuppin".

Questions re: Fog and night.....
Greg Scurlock replied to Greg Scurlock's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Thanks Lefty, I guess thats the way it will be. -
Seems to me that the screen shots I saw of Fog was pretty realistic and made it hard to see even on the computer screen. When I put on heavy fog it gets a little dimmer but I can still see the far reaches of the map. Even at night, I can see the full map area. Am I missing something or is this the way it should be. I've downloaded all patches and mod packs and have a Diamond Stealth III 16mb card, AMD K-7 650 processor and 124 megs of RAM.

Wild Bill's site at TGN only has one. Somewgere there is a site with more but I can't recall the address. Anybody out there have any suggestions.

I have a Diamond Stealth III 16mb card and I also don't see Fog like I've seen in some of the screen shots. It's slightly dimmer, not just like a regular day, but I can easily see all over the map. I've double checked all the in-game settings. Its dissapointing because it's one of my favorite effects.

Thanks Walter. Someone else said that I had to move the new exe file with cut and paste and could not use drag and drop as I had been doing. Thanks for reminding me to check for 1.01 in the bottom left corner. I didn't think about that.

need advice with the patch
Greg Scurlock replied to Greg Scurlock's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
Sorry, for such a minor question but here is the problem. I use the drag and drop method to move the new files into the CM program folders. They all disappear as i do this except the CM Tank icon which does not and game stars up. I'm wondering if I am not moving the file into the CM program. Anyone, am I doing this wrong? -
I to have loaded the patch correctly,I think, and do not see the HE explosions as advertised. I noticed the readme file for the patch said that we can now "hide" during the set up phase. I havn't noticed that I have a hide comand during setup. Could I be loading the patch incorrectly. My vidio card is a Diamond Stealth III 16mb. Could that be the problem?

once the patch has been downloaded and unzipped, what is the easiest method for moving the three file types in the patch over to the CM program? Especially the CM tank icon which i assume is the application exe file.

Steve told me mine was mailed on saturday. I received it today so most of you should be looking at tomarrow or Friday based on the mailing update Steve gave yesterday.

My credit card company shows a charge on 6/13 from Battlefront for $99. I would gladly pay that much and you can have it if you want, but I preordered May a year ago and thought the price was $45. Did I order two games?

Capt. If I knew the answer I'd tell you. You ask what seems to me to be a legit question and all you get is a bunch of wiseass ****. I don't understand why someone who knows doesn't answer the F*****g question............sorry, to much coffee this morning. -
A.I. question regarding smoke
Greg Scurlock replied to sniperscope's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
In VT I brought a German squad in fox holes protecting the German right flank under heavy fire. In the last 5 seconds of the round the fox hole area became covered with smoke hidding the squad located there. Numerous playbacks did not reveal where the smoke came from. I assumed that the German troops popped a canister. -
Reading the thread on the AI possibly cheating made me think because I have never have played except with default setup. If default is turned off, will the AI set up differently each game? Is the setup totally random? Is there any logic or method to this? Or, does the AI have 2 or 3 preset setups that it uses?

Anyway I just felt like CM is so far beyond anything ever made to simulate WWII, that perhaps the same thing could be done for other eras. CM should be a shining example for all to all talented programers that wargaming is not dead and that an excellent product can be rewarded financially. Also, I'm interested in the Civil War and happen to be a born and raised southener. Didn't mean to hurt anyones feelings.

As I fly above the terrain of VT I couldn't help but notice how much it resembles land north of Atlanta or even in the Shenandoah Valley or Gettysburg. Noone has ever really gotten the Civil War right in gaming. I wonder what the tallent at Big Time Software could do with that genre. I can see Gen. Thomas Jackson now, with his troops "standing on that ridge like a stone wall." Wow.

Dibs on Mortain! Designing Scenarios? Lets Talk.
Greg Scurlock replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)

quote:
Originally posted by Ol' Blood & Guts: Yeh, that would be great. But first, we gotta figure out what type of tanks those were "supposed" to be. I'm thinking maybe PzIVJ's. But then we gotta simulate our CO shooting a deserting flamethrower unit. But as far as creating an operation, are you considering to do a skirmish for every battlescene in the movie?

I guess I was just thinking about creating an operation about that whole H******* (can't spell it) Forrest battle. It seemed to stretch over a couple days. -

I don't know anything about making scenarios but it would be great if one of you tallented folks would would make an "operation" based on the movie "When Trumpets Fade". That would be too much fun. -
Beautiful, just beautiful. Got up at 6:30 this morning, started the download, went back to bed so when I got up at 6:30 it was done. Have played 4 turns of CE before going to work to compare the differences. As expected ,looks like it's done to perfection, so far. Two questions, maybe Fionn knows. Seems I remember the capability to advance the playback one frame at a time. Is this true? Also Steve, as a manual freek, I got to ask how this one came out?

When the GD is ready to go there will most likely be about 500 people all going at it at once. Will this cause any slowdown or download problems? I don't know much about these things but it seems there should be some limit.
