  1. Kuma,

I say good luck to you. I think your motivations for doing this are honorable.

But here's something to remember. You are going to have to lead the way, and start telling people what it IS about, so that they will shut up about what its NOT about.

If there is no schtick, if there is no catch, if there are no traditions or regularites to bring the thread together, you will quickly see your noble goal whizzed down your leg. It will be drowned out by the noise of idjits who feel that their Mutha Beautiful is being threatened, or by idjits who think ONE contiuous thread is too much already!

What holds the MUTHA BEAUTIFUL together, as best I can tell as a scum, non contributing bystander, is its openly stated CORE VALUES that are IMPLEMENTED by every poster to the piece of CRAP

MUTHA BEAUTIFUL CORE VALUES (as far as I can tell)

HATE- You gotta have conflict to get peoples attention

ENVY- Nothing motivates ppl like wanting the other person's half.

FEAR - Fear of having to say something useful or intelligible to contribute in the outerboards. The Cess Sanctum allows you to drop in every few days, post the word "WANKERS", and then strut away from your PC like you just invented the cure for cancer

COMPLACENCY - Oh it sucks, but its OUR sucks! Nothing helps firm up bad habits like doing them over and over as you slide further down the spiral of despair and self loathing

Now, I like what youre doing, but I know I payed more attention to Beavis and Butthead, then I did to Little House on the Prarie.

Its a ratings thing, you see? You gotta give people what they want. And they like to see a disfunctional TV Family Christmas Special, so they can make haughty comments about it around the water cooler, pretendig to be looking down on it, but actually just glad to focus their loathing outside of their own skin for 5 minutes. They'll talk about how "Its a Wonderful Life" really makes them think about what's really important, for about the last 5 minutes before the boss walks up, but I assure you they havent sat through it for the last 6 years.

Thats all I got for now. I hope my post gets you so pumped up, that you'll want to kick your Mom in the face!

I tip my hat to Berli, the dark one.

I played this and assaulted through the woods on the left, with a Coy cdr and 2 squads feinting an attack on the right.

My opponent decimated the lead platoon on the left, and fnord they were holding their own against the 2nd platoon. Just as I was about to request a ceasefire, that recon platoon that had been missing from the nights patrol showed up. They assaulted the russian infantry from behind, and completely routed them. They are now sweeping the rest of the woods, while my remaining damaged platoon, and feint attack on the right proceed.

Well done Berli! This scenario is truly evil, and ideal for head to head play..

    Chad,

I just played this scenario, as I had heard a great deal of talk about it. I strongly belive that, even knowing the map and units, that I would not be able to win this battle outright against a good human player defending that hill.

Against the AI, I decided to avoid that clearing on the right side. It jst looked like a bottle-neck, and a good place to get killed.

I drove my armored cars and halftrack out into the clearing, and had 1 platoon advance up through the wheatfield. My pioneer platoon (which has every cool toy I ever wanted!) snuck up to the edge of the woods, as close to the trenches and buildings as possible. After mortars, MGs, and scout cars were set up in the open, I advanced half-squads (poor buggers) up to the trenches and buildings. As soon as anything shot at them, they were met by overwhelming firepower. As soon as I had a slight foothold at the edge of the trenches, I used the sneak command to crawl a flamethrower across the open, and up to within 30 of the trench and buildings. I proceeded to bbq a few buildings, and insure that I had at least a 30m section of trench that was Ivan free.

After that, I rolled up the Armored cars one at a time, so that they could fire at the church, and at other targets beyond the trench line.

Now a human opponent would not have been so kind as to open fire on my bait teams. A human opponent would have let them come, then fire on the main body as they entered the clearing, and then fall back to positions where the psw's are unable to fire on the so easily...

By the time I had recovered and regrouped from the shock, there would not be sufficient time to invade St Popinski's Orthodox Cathedral..

So in summary, this scenario against a highly skilled human would be absolute hell. Against the AI, its just a matter of suppressing them. Im not sure I would encourage you to 'try' to get good at this tactic. I find that the more I play the AI, the more stupid my assumptions and actions are agaist human opponents. :(

I played this as Germans, vs AI, and just barely pulled out a victory. I thought it was pretty well designed, and the ambush at the bend in the road was devastating. The other thing that the russians have going for them is the 20+ time limit. At some point the German player has to take his chances and opel rush straight through town. So I got a major victory with all the truck points, but I was on a razors edge from being completely blocked out of the village. The German player has to react very quickly when things start going wrong.

  5. I havent tested this, but I am thinking that using spotters with fewer 'tubes' might help as well. There are varieties of off-board 81mm that come in 4, and iirc 8 or 12. It seems to follow that the fewer tubes will burn up the ammo m ore slowly, and still do an effective job of covering a 50 meter radius smokescren.

Has anyone found this to be true?

  6. Here's my suggestion. The three of you pitch in to buy a single copy of CMBB. If you are already familiar with the interface, jump right in as Axis, and play the following scenario:

    "A Deadly Affair"

If you do not find that scenario challenging against the AI, then you put the game up on Ebay.

One of us will be there soon to buy your copy.

Remember, there are some things that the AI can do better than you and I . I will never be as good at determining Hull Downs, etc. Also, with handicap, computer experience bonus, etc, there are plenty ways to help the AI opponent to be a extremely challenging opponent.
