  1. I saw it last night and though it was so so. It wasn't horrible, but it could have been much better. The love story was korny, but I could have forgiven it with a couple of good battle scenes. The first battle was ok, but it didn't give me that pit-in-the-stomach the SPR's opening scene did the first time I saw it. You had lots of russians charging to thier deaths (which is historic I guess), but I would have liked to have seen some behind the barrel of an german mg (ala SPR) shots or maybe some hand-to-hand combat mixing it up in the trenches bayanetting, just show a few more tight shots of the germans maybe. The battles seemed filmed from to far of a 3rd person to tell what was really going on. Lots of guys charge, some shooting and then lots of bodies. Since you have all those extras standing around dressed in thier gear, you might as well have a couple of good solid battles scenes and then I would have been pretty satisfied with wrapping it up with a lot of quite sniping. Having read a few books on the battle, I didn't get a scence of dire situation the ruskies were in. The dock scenes did i supose, but whenever they zoomed down to the individual characters/soldiers, nobody was ever starving or chasing rats around trying to scrape up dinner. And the family scenes in the apartment basement seemed too relaxed. All in all, I didn't not like the movie, I just wish they hadn't wasted a good oppertunity show us what stalingrad was really like. I guess that wasn't the intent of the movie in the 1st place. I suggest the movie Stalingrad (the newer one) over this one for pure fighting scenes. That movie had it's faults too, just keep your finger close the ff button on your vcr controller. Has anyone seen the older movie Stalingrad (from the 50's I think)? I have heard that that was a good movie with lots of real historic equipment and such. I'd say, go see it, just go for the cheaper daytime prices...
  2. Air Force Brat - 18 years with assorted tours at Castle, Fairchild and Wright Patt... and a couple of semesters in U.S.A.F. - ROTC (no 20/20) - completely appreciative of those who have served/serving...
  3. Yeah Madmatt I saw the selection buttons before I posted... I know things are always changing in the software biz and that form was made a while ago. I work at software company and I think if there is space for both versions, we usually cram them on the same cd. I think it's a lot easier/cheaper than trying to stock both versions on 2 dif cd's... I was just taking a bordem break from the "terribly exciting" rc racing game i'm working on and thought i'd ask.
  4. I was just wondering if on the final cd- will the mac and pc versions be on the same cd or on dif? I spend pretty much equal time on both systems and would like to be able to play CM on both (pc at home, mac at work) with only buying one copy... I know some companies have put both versions on the same cd in the past (close combat 2). Just curious if I have to pick one over the other.
  5. I saw these guys at Walmart and Kmart over xmas for $20 bucks. There were a lot more guys than are at that website though. I wanted to get the 101st guy and face him off against the Grenadier guy around my computer. I know i'm a bit of a geek an I accept that...
  6. For the Axis: Tiger I - cuz it's big and ugly ...or (if TD's are included) JagPanther - cuz it's sleek and sexy For the Allies: M5A1 Stuart - i've always liked these little guys long before I knew the diference between a light and heavy tank (back when i was drawing tanks on my grade school desk)
  7. Thanks Civdiv, that's the title - Blazen Chariots. It was one of the best 1st person tanker books i can remeber - even though it was about stuarts for the most part. ... and thanks too Jackhammer. I'll check out that site. Has anyone read that book - Stuka Pilot? Is it more autobiographical or 1st personish? [This message has been edited by FlakBait (edited 01-15-2000).]
  8. Doh! - Double post - sorry! [This message has been edited by FlakBait (edited 01-14-2000).]
  9. Guess that was a tripple post... damn back button... [This message has been edited by FlakBait (edited 01-14-2000).]
  10. I have a few book info requests: Does anyone remember a book called, i think, "Honey" (or something like that)? A 1st hand account of a British stuart tank commander fighting the Africa Corps. I read it some 15 years + ago and can't seem to find any trace of it. I remember it being a great read (with lots of those great little black and white illustrations), but then I was pretty young then, thinking german tanks looked like M47's. Then the 2nd book i've been trying to find is "Stuka Pilot" about Hans-Ulrich Rudel. I'm pretty sure it is out of print, but maybe there is someplace it can be found... And if anyone has read it, how is it?
  11. The Maus could be fun for some "what if" scenerio's. Or how about that upgunned sherman from Kelley's Heros. That could be a fun user made scenerio. - ps. I know it didn't exist
  12. Thanks Madmatt, I'm kinda a lazy, ask first, look later, kind of guy... I figured just as much about the planes. Would be kinda cool to see the planes impact after taking a fatal flak hit. (I think back to how kool it was when a frogfoot would crash and burn in the clasic M1 Tank Platoon)... i'm not complaining... just passing time...
  13. Looking throught the screen shots of the air attack, I noticed that we never saw the actual aircraft (just the shadows). Are the planes actually modeled or are are they treated as off-baord units? Not that it is really important - just wondering... I'd love to seeing the CM view of the classic gun camera footage of the allied train-busting sytle of low flying through the secondaries type of air strikes (and from the recieving end too)!
  14. I've been wasting all my limited free time with: Rouge Spear (online and single player) CCIV (as well as CCIII mods) CM Demo Panzer Elite (just aquired... but lookin good) Quake3 Test (when i need a quick fix and don't want to be bothered with using my brain too much!)
