  1. I saw some screenshots on the Combat Mission HQ that have since been taken down, but one of them showed a PIAT team from that op ambushing a StuG that was moving across the bridge. So I thought from that the Germans would be attacking across the bridge.

Also, the bridge sorta resembles the bridge in the movie A Bridge Too Far, the bridge that the German halftracks attack across.

  2. When a squad is a particular skill level, is that just the average of all the soldiers in the squad? It would not be realistic to have EVERY soldier be exactly the same skill level, as some squads, especially German ones, were patched together with combat veterans and raw recruits.

If so, does this affect weapons firepower. For example, could the BAR gunner in a inf. squad be significantly more experienced than his mates and have a higher firepower.

  3. As Madmatt said, the Rifle Grenades do make a sound like a on-map mortar being fired. However, you can see them in flight, and they appear as yellow shaped charges, similar to PzShrecks or PIATs.

    SPOILER.

The first time I saw one used was in "Hills are for Heros". I had the platoon assaulting the Pillbox MG from the flank, and a squad fired it into the rear, but failed to knock it out. The pillbox was taken out by a demo charge a bit later.

  4. I myself like the JagdPanther the best, with the Jpz IV close behind. The Jagdtiger has a powerful but inaccurate gun, plus it's slow to turn and to aim, and ROF is low. The Hetzer seems like a cheaper Jpz IV, but with less armor. The Nashorn has the excellent gun of the JagdPanther, but it's much more fragile.

I like the JagdPanther for it's relatively high speed, and powerful and accurate gun. The Jpz IV I like because it's pretty cheap, and is built so low to the ground it's harder to hit.

    What are your opinions?

  5. My problem is that I can't always run 2500+ point battles, especially tank-heavy ones, effectively, LOTS of stuttering and the like. I'm thinking of buying a 3D card.

I'm running a Sony VAIO with a Celeron processer, 600 Mhz, Win 98, and an Intel 810 Chipset Graphics Driver.

What 3D card would you recommend for me. Preferably one that costs $40 or lower. Oh yeah, fog graphics would be nice. My current card doesn't have 'em.

  6. I definitely admire the M18's speed and good gun. I can remember back in the Beta demo days when I played Last Defence, and how they turned the tables for me in that battle.

Then I got to wonderin'. The M-18 Hellcat tank destroyer and the F6F Hellcat fighter plane both were important in the war. But which one was more important?

I am hoping this will spark some lively discussion.

  7. Today I did a 1500 point British attack QB (I consider that large), me as Brits, AI as Germans. The tactics I used were dismal, consisting of sending 1 or 2 platoons charging frontally at the German foxholes, which usually resulted in them getting attrited along the way by hidden infantry guns, and finally dying at the hands of the German defenders once they reached their positions.

I believe my problem is that I get bored with having to issue orders to each seperate squad/team, and so I just do these charges because the orders are easy to give (Group select everyone in the squad, move fast to the foxholes).

I need to know some tactics that work in these large attacks, and won't bore me to tears.
