  1. YES to facepalm smiley, NO to auto-pause RT, YES to pause in RT, NO to Elmar, just in general.

Yeah, I don't like that guy either.

Yes on the question at hand. Some sort of chess clock thingie would be best IMHO. Certain amount of time for every scenario+extra for the length. But it depends. If it comess at the cost of flamethrowers for the Brit module, I'd be less then pleased.

  2. I am sorry we were not able to help towards a better result.

What resolution did you manage to end up with? It strikes me as odd that it would be very much smaller. Have you tried any of the ones mentioned here?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDTV#High-definition_display_resolutions

Maybe something bigger amongst those that might work.

Did you try nVidias latest drivers? The control panel has an over/under scan feature you might want to try.

  3. Well, SLAM has been pretty thoroughly discredited by now. I find it hard to believe that many people in a shooting position would not fire their gun.

Firing their gun effectively is a whole other matter. I think BFC have been too generous to pixeltruppen, being too willing to return fire while shot at and entirely too accurate in doing so.

But since that is a thing pretty hard to quantify I guess someone would always disagree no matter what BFC comes up with. My gut says they got pretty close to getting it right with the scoped rifles, none of that one shot one kill stuff which is far beyond the typical rifleman.

  4. I am actually getting cropping in both directions. It seems like it is trying to render larger than the TV is capable of displaying. It seems like I am losing probably maybe 5-10% of the screen. Just enough to mess things up.

Yup, that is what you ought to be seeing if I am correct. Look for something in the TV options menu that may be called overscan, though the term used varies per manufacturer.

You wouldn't happen to be able to connect the PC to the TV with a DVI or VGA plug instead, would you? That might solve it too.

And if all else fails you might wanna try 1366x768

  5. Thanks for replying. No there is no aspect ratio on my TV unfortunately. It seems to me there has to be a check being done in the code to look for specific values or minimum values since it is overwriting values in the file it doesn't like. I am hoping they are going to address this or offer another workaround. Was having a decent time in the demo but it was frustrating not being able to see and use all the menu options.

TVs as standard drop the outer 5% or so of an image. Discovered this only the other day when I switched from a VGA cable to HDMI to connect my TV/monitor. Even if you adjust your desktop to fit, games may still run in to this.

Most TVs should be able to be set to display the entire area but it is probably tucked away in the obscurer parts of the menus and might not be obviously labelled as such. I urge you to check again. The PC+TV combo makes this a very likely cause of your issue.

  6. Personally, I think he and the others over at Gamesquad are just jealous. They think so highly of themselves and believe themselves to be of such superiour intellect that it pisses them off to no end that someone other than themselves came up with the idea of the CM series of games...plus the fact that BF is doing well with a game they claim is flawed.
Let me correct you there. They think it fundamentally flawed.

BF was right...he was wrong. That is very difficult for someone with an ego like his to swallow.

Not a question of right or wrong. A question of proportion. He doesn't have to like it but he is so hypercritical and hypocritical that it is laughable. But that should not single him out for any unusual ridicule in and of itself.

No, it is this crusade. We get it Dorosh, you don't like it and Steve is a meanie. Move on already! Go play that better and more realistic wargame you have in your head.

  7. Pfffft. We did not get him banned, he did.

Why would the onus be on us not to mention him when he himself puts himself about everywhere to make sure everyone is warned off this hideously bad game. He brings it on himself.

If he keeps to his corner of the internet, fine, leave him be. But this pathological quest of his to damage this games' sales makes him fair game.

Pity as I liked his groggery and scenario design (his CMSF Normandy scenario is still one of my favourites) but the man is an insufferable and vindictive tit with a severe Borderline Personality Disorder problem. New Zealand Gamer... really?

  8. The firing on the move thing is a shocker that runs against the grain of what this series is about. That it is not a bug as such is most alarming. It has to change.

You can bandy about the "you must read up on relevant threads XYZ" (no he must not) or "I don't like the tone" but it does nothing to mitigate what I think is a legitimate concern.

  9. In doing so he ignored one of the most basic tenets of war in that strategists plan logistics. Montgomery apparently felt clearing Antwerp and the Scheldt estuary were somehow going to be less important with his army strung out hundreds of miles past it.

    Uh... no.

Montgomery cooked up Market Garden precisely because he had a great appreciation of logistics. Market Garden was pretty much the only war winning plan the allies still had the logistics for.

I think it was worth the risk. Even with all the cock-ups and rotten luck, they damn near got there. And the risk was worth the reward.

A successful thrust would've seen them past the Reichswald and threatening the Ruhr and potentially bagging a load of Germans in Holland and Zeeland.

Clearing the Antwerp/Schelde area was always going to be a tough cookie. That they failed to do it on the first attempt was not through lack of effort or insight into it's importance. It was too much for an advance already reaching its limits.

  10. Sure it is open to all comers, who make the grade and serve 2+ years. That is the entire point you are only allowed to have a say in who makes the laws in the country if you survive a minimum of 2 years of military indoctrination, which is going to lead to a fairly homogeneous mind set within the voting public.

A homogeneous mindset (not convinced of that assumption in the first place) is NOT fascism. Yes, yes, I know what fascism means. But that term has political meaning. What your job was before you voted has none.

Mere shared values does not equate fascism. Again, it is still a democratic system that allows for hippies to gain the reigns.

The SS and Wehrmacht actually swore allegiance to AH so that is the main difference, SST swear allegiance to the constitution and the commander in chief, who must have been a soldier, which is not all that different really.

Obeying a democratically elected CiC in accordance to the constitution is not all that different from swearing allegiance to the dictator Adolf Hitler, according to you? If Obama only had served in the military, he'd be indistinguishable from Mussolini? On what basis you make that monumental leap?!

Not in my world mate, you get (in fact are required) to vote whatever your status in Australia. Only restriction is that a declared bankrupt cannot stand for public office. If you haven't paid your taxes you have some explaining to do to the ATO nothing else, have not checked but I believe this to be the case in most democracies.

Oh? I can just drop by come election time and vote? No, I must be a citizen of Australia. That tends to put one in the way of paying taxes. And if one refuse to pay taxes, I assume one eventually gets jailed. Much voting in jail?

Seemingly it does but the UNDERCURRENT is that those who "opt out" don't really count for much in the grand scheme of things. Rico's rich back ground for example is portrayed as superficial and unfullfilling as compared to the glory of nukeing a "skinny" temple, not that we are racist or xenophobic.

Undercurrent. That is what it was boils down to for you, doesn't it? Not actual observed facts, but what makes you feel a bit icky in your underbelly. Steering dangerously close to "don't approve of this, thus this is fascist.

    Your kidding right?

    Well done Sherlock.

Keep in mind I am saying that there is some evidence to support the notion that Starship Troopers contains Fascist principals as has been suggested for many years, not that Heinlein is Fascist, as I said I am not sold ether way but I can see the parallels.

The evidence seems mostly based on the idea that you can't have military men anywhere near a democracy. A wafer thin notion.

More to the point I am saying that the Buffalo Court which provides different rights to veterans is reminiscent of the ideals portrayed in Starship Troopers, which is possibly the top of a slippery slope.

Except of course veterans aren't getting any rights. They can claim none, zilch, zero. It is entirely done at the discretion of a democratically elected DA, who can put him in this rehabilitation system that is batting well above average. It is not like vets are getting away with murder here.

God forbid we want criminals to reform at the stated 100% rate. Where would society be? Other then cheering in the streets at this unparalleled success of the legal system.

Is the targeted rehabilitation drunks or junkies fascism to you too? No? So it is soldiers you have problem with.

It is about as slippery a slope as building highways leads to gassing jews.

  11. You are still equating Fascism with conscription. As I said it is more Fascist if the military is reserved for a "privileged elite" (Waffen-SS for example) and that service entitles you to a different place in society.

As I understand it the SST military is not limited to anyone. Open to all comers.

Also, unlike Waffen SS, it has allegiance to the democratic state. The Waffen SS, and indeed the Wehrmacht, had allegiance to the party. Bit of a huge difference.

Really, the military service in SST is little more then paying taxes in another form. You try not paying your taxes and before too long you won't be able to vote either. Indeed, in SST the democracy goes easy for anyone not willing to pay the price of citizenship.

I do not think an opt-in Demoratic franchise is fascism.

Say, are Free2play games fascist? You can play for free, or pay and get more out of the game. Same set up really.

  12. People with drugs and alcohol problems tend to get aid tailored to their needs via most justice systems in order to solve the various problems. I reckon that for many veterans war ****ed them up every bit as good as narcotics.

The problems some seem to have with it appears based the principle of the thing. I prefer to see actual positive results rather then to stand on principle.

It does not do anyone any favours to make the moral highground too steep to climb.

  13. Looks like they addressed many of my concerns regarding usability.

It was sometimes too awkward to do simple things. Using a LMG in particular tended to be a PITA.

One of their recent videos showed they did some good work on that.

Still only the Pz4 and T-34 for tanks. That's not quite enough but hopefully they can get additional tanks in at some more reasonable pace. And with infantry not quite so tricky I might not miss the diversity in tanks so very much.

    Looking forward to it.
