  1. Probably I will get a lot of stick for this one, but I just had to add this one:

    Bagpipes.

Now maybe it's the fact that I have Scotsmen polluting the family bloodline way back in the 1600s :D but this Dutchy finds them very stirring. And those Highlanders advancing through open desert with pipes in the lead is one of those imagines wich come to my mind when talking about warfare in North Africa.

  2. My favourite would remain dynamic lighting. Next time I light up a Sherman I want it to light up the area. O howabout sending up flares in response to a sound contact?

And a start-o-war -> end-o-war campaign. Kinda like Talonsofts Westfront. Not like the Steel Panthers campaign though, because I'd be too tempted to purchase a seriously gamey force. smile.gif

  3. Hey, that 6th Panzergrenadier version isn't half bad. I prefer the German version anyway, more authentic since it was a German song originally.

That or Prokofievs "Dance of the Knights", wich is suitably grandiose and the title alone captures so many apects of the North Africa campaign. The "chivalrous" nature of the campaign for instance.

"D-Day dodgers" while nice enough is only suitable for Italy while the main theme seems to be North Africa.

Shame on you for almost forgetting this function, even though in most scens in CMAK we'll have plenty of room to trundle about with our tanks.

I see it like this: A first "target" to indicate wich unit is to be followed. A second "waypoint" to indicate the distance it should roughly keep to the lead vehicle. The last wapoint could be implemented as distance indicator only and thus not follow the lead vehicle but the route the lead vehicle takes. Ideal for moving down zig zag roads. An even more complicated system would be that the "waypoint" indicates relative position to the lead vehicle that the following vehicle should keep. Ideal for advancing in line and adequate for moving down straight roads. But both would require serious programming (especially what should happen if enemy action occurs while units are following each other across the map, or what would happen if two units try to follow each other because we are bastards and we WILL order it tongue.gif )and are unlikely to make it in CMAK.

  5. Well I managed to beat it 2nd time trying. You just have to make sure you get the tanks. You need a shed load of luck with original setup but if you tinker around with the German troops (after you beat them straith out of the box wich is much harder but more fun) you can do so more easily by pairing up the AT guns with relatively limited LOS. The T34s will trundle into LOF one at a time and are dead easy with flank or turret shots if both guns open up.

Wouldn't like to try this one in multi player though.

  6. I'm sure MrSpeaker meant SAS & LRDG vehicles. Very difficult cause they carried whatever they felt like, double vickers K mounts, Vickers watercooled, .50 cal, Boys AT rifle(.55?) etc. I saw a pic with a German counterpart with a 20mm aircraft cannon (not 20mm Flak) mounted in the rear. Want!

But as well as a good variety of weapons mounted on SAS/LRDG trucks/Jeeps I wouldn't mind the includion of the French, colonial French, Greeks and Gurkhas. And CS versions of Commonwealth tanks.

I guess requesting special nightfighting skills for the Ozzies is a bit much. ;)

I'll be giggling insanly all night imagening fighting it out at Beda Fomm. Hihihihi. Dammit! Hihihihi. : :D

Edited because I forgot to add my voice to the request of portees (both 2pdr and 6pdr) preverably being allowed dismounting the AT guns if needed, but that might be beyond the engine.

  7. Well, I left replying a little late so the more experienced could reply but with such a limited amount of people foward I like to sign up as replacement too.

Be forewarned though that I'm a Noobie (with online play atleast) with the tremendous ability to make awfull mistakes wich the AI wouldn't exploit but you lot will punish with glee.

I do however have time to spare in shiploads so I could participate with no problem.

In the British army it had a relatively short service life, with them being AFAIK relegated to training duties or converted into Archer or Bishop Self Propelled Guns by the end of 1943. Also nearly half the production (4,000 of 9,000) was shipped to the USSR so I sort of assumed that the Brits and Canadians didn't particularly want them.

The Valentine (couldn't tell the model) shows up in several photographs taken during the battle for the Reichswald. So they seemed to have had some use afterall, though admittedly most depicted have sunk into the extreme mud after the floodings.

If anyone is interested, I'll see if I can find them.

  9. If you are using XP, nothing. Why, what do you think would happen?

If you are not using XP, why the hades not, it actually is good (an unpopular view but MS managed to deliver a quality item) Dunno about 98, 95 etc. but hey, if anyting happens it's your fault for stil using that crap. :D

As long as you don't minimize by putting CMBB in a long 100 degree washing cycle, nothing should happen.

  10. <looking Grumlin firmly in the eyes>

Nope, I probably wouldn't. IMO the engine/combat system doesn't suit it at all. The CM engine just doesn't do hand to hand combat at all well. Wich I assume would be (except fo the elves)

the major way of causing death.

LotR based on the Total War engine on the other hand, well, just don't stand in front of me in shops when it would hits the shelves, I'll kick ya out of the way. :D

  11. Well Lt. Hortlund, I'm sure they would be happy to do all the "missing" models especially for you. Just give them a billing adress.

I on the other hand can't really be bothered about the in most cases minor diffrences, it doesn't hinder gameplay so I don't mind and I certainly wouldn't want to pay extra for it, wich the extra work on it would mean. Too much effort for too little effort. Why is that so hard a concept for you to grasp?

  12. Talking about tough, how about those Gurkhas?

Never read an account of Gurkhas doing the fighting where I wasn't impressed. Love to see them included in the new engine. Maybe they can be given higher morale then average because they really do stand out in that area.

To my understanding it still is the practice that Gurkhas are considered elite troops despite only undergoing regular infantry taining.

  13. What I really like about the Commonwealth forces is they truly have a tool for every job. Wether you need to get up close with a Croc, or stand off with any 17pdr vehicle or just the durability of the Churchill, they have it. And man do I love the 95mm gun, it can ruin anyones day at any distance even though it suffers accuracy at range. The Sovjets have a nice assortment of medium and heavies, either in regards to armour or armament, or quite often both. So I like them too. The US just have medium tanks, or vunerable SP gun and I don't rate the 76 to highly, compared to the 17pdr. Their vehicles lack diversity.

  14. Just de-lurked to chip in on my pet hate.

It is infurating to have your troops dug in in a position where it would take the better part of an Armoured Division to evict you only to have them out in the open because the AI thinks it should re-arrange my lines. My infantry tends to be able to get to shelter before they get totally wiped out, but any AT guns and mortars are toast.

I too am curious why I should spend much of my time in setup redeploying troops I so very carefully deployed earlier.

Ah wel, at least since the previous patch you can withdraw any dangerously exposed units to behind your own lines, before that... the memory is too painfull. ;)
