I've tried to explain why #1 is the stronger possibility, but apparently some people still "don't get it" and probably never will. So at this point such people should revert to blind faith since that's likely to be closer to reality.

    3. You know what you are doing, and we know what we are doing and never shall the twain meet. smile.gif

All kidding aside, I understand the choice you are making. Indeed, I agree with your reasoning that it is the way forward for you guys. Doesn't make me desire a pimped CMBO any less and as such I am dissapointed. A little.

  2. I'm afraid there is no chance of that Cpl Steiner. BFC have repeatedly stated that they won't make theatre wide games any more. Not even with game+modules will we get CMBO, let alone BB or AK. :(

Great pity, though I do understand. As long as they don't narrow it down too much I'm fine with it. I mean, just Normandy or Market Garden is fine with me, even if the total has to be pieced together with the modules. Pity that once again the Yanks get first billing in CMx2:WW2, but C'est la vie.

Still no word on what CMx2:WW2 will be?

    Really? smile.gif

Say, about directing of airstrikes on target, what are the different methods used if any? There's a youtube of Dutch commandos marking the target with .50 fire for a pair of USA F-18s. would something similar be possible? If yes, in what way would that differ from say a laser designated target or a mere radioed in target?

  4. What my somewhat unhelpful fellow forumdweller meant to say is that we don't know because we haven't been told.

That's because BFC release games when they are finished, not when the calender says they must. A highly admirable practice, IMHO. I think the latest ballpark date we were given was somewhere mid 2007-ish.

  5. Tried the new demo and the initial impression is the same as in the original demo: Who in the name of all things that are holy thought up the default controls?!

Of course everyone's preferred layout is different but there is, IMHO, very little to work with with the default layout, making the first half hour of Dropteam highly unpleasant. It is THAT awkward. And that's with me being fairly familiar with Dropteam . Imagine how a green newb would fare! Not the best first impression one wishes to leave behind. The weapons and ammo buttons and the zoom key and other essential keys all need to hug the WASD keys or thereabouts, not be all the way across the keyboard.

It seem one isn't able to re-map keys mid mission, at least it wasn't obvious to me as to how to do this. Yet this is is the best time to fool around with what works and what doesn't.

Anyway, this second outing was, after the first thirty minutes fiddling about, even better then the amazing game I played during the beta demo. Good job!

  6. I highly doubt you'll be running it with much difficulty. I'm playing several high end games on my E6600, none of which run on both cores, yet I'm getting good performance on high settings. Besides, while the game may run on one core, users are reporting that the seconds CPU is doing stuff too. So the game runs on one and your usual windows crap seems to be doing it's thing on the other. Haven't checked it myself since things like Medieval 2 Total War run fine anyway.

  7. Release delays? What release delay? I can't remember us being given a date.

Battlefront products are a lot like wizards, they are never late, nor are they early, they arrive precisely when they mean to.

  8. Ah gawds, not another kiwi! smile.gif Welcome and pull up a chair.

There's always been a lot of interest in these raids but to be honest, if someone pulled off a good LRDG/SAS scenario, then I'm not aware of it. The CM engine just doesn't seem to handle it very well.

There are a few problems with simulating such raids, as CM doesn't simulate surprise nor does the speed of the attacker give much protection to him. So the moment the LRDG or SAS encounters an enemy, they'd be in trouble.

As for the vehicles you'd need to simulate the raiders, the White scout car and the MG jeep are the prime choices there. The White truck is over armoured for the job, really. But it's a nice compensation for the game engine not giving enough advantage for roaring around in the dark at high speed with all guns blazing.

For parked planes, use something fragile and expensive. One of those Italian SPAA trucks, elite and without ammo, would give good points.
