Kampfgruppe Langkeit counter attacks advancing Soviet forces north of Krivoi Rog, Southern Ukraine.

Just uploaded this operation to The Scenario Depot. This version is only for playing as Germans Vs AI. I'm in the (slow) process of re-jigging it to play as H2H.

This scenario is based on a combat report by Hauptmann Hans Jochaim Schwanner and is taken from ‘Panzertruppen Vol2’ by Tom Jentz.

Many thanks to the crew at The Proving Grounds, especially Mike McIntosh, Jean ‘Champagne’ Lafitte and Tooz for playtesting and feedback smile.gif

ps It is still there at TPG so anyone currently playing it you can still post your feedback there. Many Thanks!

  2. Hi

Just a wee note to say I have posted the above scenario at The Proving Grounds. It has been playtested so far against AI, but I would greatly appreciate some H2H playtesting. Here is your chance to have your name up in lights. Whats it about I hear you all cry? Well.....

On the 28th June 1942 ‘Blau’ started. Initially the operation was a success. The panzers managed to break the left flank of the Bryansk Front and the right flank of the South-West Front inflicting heavy casualties on the Soviets.

The dust from the advancing German armoured columns could be seen at thirty or forty miles distance. Small isolated Russian units polarising around the shallow cover of a ravine, or the wooden huts of a kolkhoz attempted to delay the advancing panzers. Many fought out their last battle under a deluge of firepower against which they could oppose little save their own bravery.

To facilitate rapid breakthroughs the Germans tended to stick to main road networks. As the bulk of the transport in the German panzer units was still motorised good road networks and intact bridges were crucial to a rapid advance. This scenario, although fictional, is based on the above situation. A scratch Soviet battle group has set-up blocking positions around a crucial river crossing. However, before they have had time to blow the bridges reconnaissance troops from the vanguard of an advancing German armoured column have appeared. Can the Soviets hold the panzers at the river?

Fictional with approx 8000 points combined. Map size 2160m X 2880m

ps Vorhut Panzer! means (I hope, as i do not speak German although being Scottish I have been mistaken for being German due to the accent) Panzer Advance Guard - any German speakers out there would like to correct any erronous language assumptions on my part please feel free :D

if this isn't an appropriate request. my appologies and I'll edit the request out.

I'll send over some of my own stuff If you'd like - in return for any feedback posted at the Scenario Depot :D

Aye General Colt is right. The Proving Grounds is a testing site - and an excellent resource to help designers fine tune their carefully crafted scenario babies with the assistance from a load of very knowledgable, friendly and helpful people - just like here :D so that when you come to download it from somewheres like the Scenario Depot you will be downloading a quality challenging scenario which (hopefully) has had any major flaws to excting play removed through strenuos playtesting.

I've had some great feedback about 'Peiper's...' especially from Tooz and Frozen so far which has helped refine the scenario.

Given it has been there since July, and given the quality feedback I have had I think its a done deal.

Sometime next week it'll be uploaded to the Scenario Depot where it will be available to one and all.

If you have played it its not to late to post yer comments over at The Proving Grounds. Anyone working through it can always let me know and I will postpone this moment smile.gif

  5. I'm thinking about removing my scenario 'Peiper's Nahkampftag' to the Scenario depot late next week.

Its been on TPG since July and I suspect I've had all the feedback I'm getting  .

Many thanks to Tooz and Frozen for their specific, constructive and extremely useful feedback. :D

If anyone is still playing through this scenario and is waiting to post some feedback I'll delay removing it.

I have searched the internet but cannot come up with the answer. Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

according to the illustrations in the Osprey book "Pz IV Ausf G, H and J 1942 - 45" the Ausf H has four cast steel return rollers as does the J (although there is a drawing of one version of the J with three top return rollers). The main deifferences I can see between the J and H are the J has two flammentoter exhaust system outlets on the rear hull as opposed to the Hs' cylendrical muffler.

Hope this is of some use. By the way the ISBN number for the book is 1-84176-183-4

  8. Hi

I've been looking for a mod that changes the mid war 43ish SS Officer's tunic to a camo top. Also to ask for even more, having him wear a 'feldmuze' would be excellent. I've found Jorge.MC's(?)that changes the tunic for the camo smock but this is for late war (and an excellent mod it is too).

Any help in this would be greatly appreciated?

    Cheers fur noo smile.gif

ps might it even be a case of renumbering the above mod bmps?!

I've one sitting over at the Scenario Depot called TBP No1 - attack Against PAK, its based on a tactical problem from a panzer training manual. basically you have a unit of panzers, no infantry support, and you have to fight your way through the PAKs. Short but sweet.

  11. Sounds like it - but I am sure there was scenario where there was tank crew sitting in a truck. maybe it ma auld age getting the better of me  :D

I'll go and see if I can find which one it was. I'm sure it was one where Peiper is getting a convoy through Soviet lines around early 43 I think....

    I'll be back!

Thanks for the respons so far guys.

I've jus posted a wee scenario at the Scenario depot on CMBB - SPW Hotrodders - its based on the lengthy discussion topic title dealing with your points above (i think the full title was Panzergrenadiers - not SPW Hotrodders. The actual scenario is based on a true event. Not giving much else away though. Might be fun to play with some ideas? ;)

ps in Jochen Peiper by Patrick Agte there are some discussions re PzG SPW tactics - in several sections there is mention, and description of Hussar type tactics (try that on a CMBB battlefield and you'll be up tae yer oxters in burning/knocked out SPW :D )

  13. Just a wee note for anyone who has downloaded the above from the Proving Grounds. I have just updfated a minor set-up error with the Axis side. the new version is now on the proving Grounds. many thanks to Tooz for pointing this out. http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/scenario_details_link.html?sku=471

    ***************** SPOILER ************* SPOILER *

Ther is a German arty FOO on the far RH side of the map miles from his set up zone  . he should be comfortably ensconced in a nice warm SPW . The new version sorts out this. I'd been mucking around with ammo load outs etc and had forgot to replace the FOO in his SPW. Auld age disnae come itsel eh? redface.gif My apologies to all

    /QB]

I've just designed one op (quick plug - its over at the proving grounds 'Kampfgruppe Langkei attacks' Not the most imaginative of names, but it does exactly what it says on the tin!). Before sending it over to the 'grounds I played through it myself against the AI 5 times just to iron out ther obvious niggles. the op is designed to be played as the German attacker Vs Soviet AI, I gues designing one for two player would be more challening to test play given the timesacles to plot moves etc. Hope this helps?

ps is it going to be a good Christmas tree crop this year? :D
