  1. Will the patch also fix the Windows 8.1 problem or is that a different process? I submitted a ticket but will not follow up if it is addressed in this patch.

The windows 8.1 problem is a problem with Windows, not the game, so we can't fix it. Only Windows can fix it.

However, the problem only applies if you upgrade to 8.1 after activating the game. There is no problem the other way around, because, well, again, it's a Windows issue, not an issue with the game. :) In other words, the game runs just fine on Windows 8.1, as on previous versions. What is broken is the Windows update process.

  2. No, the activations are limited to the number of machines you are installed on, not the number of times you activate on the same machine (at least that has been my experience over the last couple of days and how I read the knowledge base articles).

That is correct. The system is not 100% error free, as no software is, in determining "the same machine", but in 99% of all cases it should not eat up activations when you run the activation interface on the same PC. It's not recommended, though, because of that 1% where it can bite you, and because having multiple copies of CMBN on the same PC is in fact unsupported and potentially unstable, and could lead to other issues, as well.

  3. Vanishing exe files are usually a sign of anti-virus software acting up and removing the files. This happens when you allow your AV software to do "heuristic" scanning, which is basically just "guessing", and at the same time allow it to remove files without notification/approval. You need to change your settings and/or whitelist the files.

Not sure about the missing version number etc. but it sounds like your installation is incomplete. I would make the AV settings change then simply reinstall everything from scratch (you do not need to uninstall).

  4. argh... I forgot to remove my Z folder b4 installing MG. Now I have some Allied troops with some modern CMSF type weapons (and even no helmets).

Do I have to remove my Z folder and reinstall MG, or...?

Don't reinstall, just remove the Z folder and see if that fixes it. Chances are it will. If not, then you have some other mods elsewhere that needs to be deleted. If you don't want to hunt for it, uninstall the game and install completely fresh. Instructions for how to do that most efficiently can be found in the Knowledgebase at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk.

  5. Believe me, I have tried every activation code from v1.00 on down.

What's weird is that I can use either my 2.0 activation or my MG activation code and it will give me a "success" message. The Launch button still does nothing, however. The activation interface just closes and the game doesn't launch, and trying to start it again just brings me back to the activation problem notice.

    :(

It is intended behavior that you are able to use both the 2.0 key and the MG key. There has been a change in how activations work starting with Market Garden. Now there is a generic activation interface which you bring up with the special "Activation" shortcut, and you can enter any valid key. For the current CMBN 2.0 branch, this means two keys: the 2.0 key or the MG key.

It sounds like the problem may be somewhere else. Please go to www.battlefront.com/helpdesk and click on Submit Ticket. You will need a special tool to reset your license state for CMBN that we can send you via the helpdesk. That should clear up whatever issue you may have.

  6. Hi Josh,

Paradox has dropped support for CMSF after version 1.20. You can patch up to that version (here's a link: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_versions&Itemid=317#Combat%20Mission:%20Shock%20Force%20-%20Paradox%20Version) for free.

If you would like to get the newer patches, you will need to buy the $1.00 v1.21 upgrade (link: http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage_bfc&Itemid=26&category_id=9&product_id=228)

    - OR -

buy any one of the modules for CMSF from www.battlefront.com/cmsf. If you do that, you don't need any of the above.

  7. DVD-R has a finite life. At work, we already have DVD-R media from 2003+ that is no longer readable.

Compare this with the earliest commercially produced compact disks from the 1980s, which are still playable. CD-R and DVD-R media has a very finite shelf life as compared to commercially produced media. Look it up.

BFC has "gone cheap" since Gustav Line, with their disks. DVD-R.....really?

IMO, BFC should probably just abandon their physical product and only offer "download only" options.

Man up, BFC. Either offer a real physical product, or just go download only.

We are using the same type of disc for years now, and commercial grade production. If you are worried about longevity, make a backup, or store it online in the cloud. That will last forever. [grin]

  8. In CMx2, QBs are not hardcoded into the engine and TacAI (unlike in CMx1). QBs rely almost exclusively on the map/mission you play. There are great, good and also some not so good QB maps out there. Not surprising, as it's very hard to make a really good QB map that works for all the various random settings. We have some amazing QB talent on the beta team and the packs have grown in number and quality greatly with each release since 1.x.

  9. Bob, you can't just pluck what I posted out of thin air. It's a reply to a question, and you can see what the question is when you read the whole thread:

    http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?p=1436407#post1436407

"The two expansion" refers to AoD and Gold. No one is talking about AoC and AoD here (or anywhere else).

Having said that, if you purchased AoC and would like to buy AoD, email me at sales@battlefront.com, and I'll happily get you a coupon (for this or a future purchase).

What's beyond me is why people seem to think we're out to cheat anyone or rip them off after all those years. I would have thought we've proven the opposite time and time again.
