SKELLEN
I was wondering if BTS or anyone would be interested in a CM version set in WWI at all and whether this could make a good game or not? Or if not WWI how about some other date in history, maybe the American civil war, The British Empire Conquests, The Roman Empire etc. I understand this would be moving away from the usual format, but could also introduce many new forms of new gameplay, while at the same time keeping CM fresh and appealing to old and new players alike. Surely there has got to be some potential at least in a WWI version of CM?
Stoffel
Do yourself a pleasure and set up a scenario with muddy conditions. Create two opposite systems of trenches with mg strongpoints and some artillery spotters in the rear. Than try to assault the other trench, chances are 10 to 1 that you quit very soon as the attacker WW1 had not much really interesting battles other than simple slaughter events. Sergei
As to earlier eras, those are so different from WW2 that it would require a totally different design than CM. You don't get a Roman battle by replacing infantry with swordsmen and skirmishers and tanks with cavalry. Maybe they could make such a game, but calling it as Combat Mission would be like calling Windows as MS DOS.
Baron von Beergut
I would think you could do it with the present game. Or with CMAK if you wanted to do something like Rommel's actions in 1917 Italian mountains. You'd just have to make sure your troops didn't have anything new or fancy. Probably the squads with just rifles, pistols, grenades. Seperate LMG/HMG teams, flamethrower teams, and any other arty/weapons that you deem appropriate.
