  1. 99% done? So how long has it been in the works? So then add 1% to that time to still wait... So if it has been 5 years that means within six months... by Christmas. No problem to me... we have waited this long... just finally hearing news after so long in the dark is improvement
  2. Ditto Conte's post - sounds like things are moving again, so they will release when they are ready or be honest enough to say if there are new issues I would hope. So count me in whenever they release it... BvB
  3. I think you are getting too defensive with Redwolf. Your handle ends with SS, so he just called you by that. Maybe he should have said Mr 2SS, but he was trying to keep it short and adding waffen doesnt do that. You are right, all countries are guilty of atrocities. And your 2nd SS wiped out a town in 1944 France, men, women, kids. I remember a guy in my unit shooting 3 guys trying to surrender and laughing. War sucks and different people handle it differently between liking it and being sickened by it. Further some of the things you ask might be answered in the FAQ thread here: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=53;t=000071 Another game that has a campaign similar to what you are wishing for is Steel Panthers. I think they still have a free download of that over at matrixgames for SPWaW. Good luck in your battles... salute... BvB PS: as for my own expectations? I will just be happy to see it finally released so I can buy it. It should breathe new life and interest into CMBB. While it would be nice if it would upgrade to the CMAK standard, it wont bother me if it isnt. If it was then we could see things like the T28 multiturret tank. For those that want whole war campaigns I am sure players on their own could moneky with this to edit their force and link campaigns of the scale this was intended to do. I am happy with what I see... [ May 15, 2008, 02:16 AM: Message edited by: Moon ]
  4. Ok, they said they were going to announce something later in the month, which ends today. No activity down on their private forum for two weeks. So my bet is an announcement this week saying it has had some improvement but is dead in the water. Or more likely just tapdance and leave us hanging.
  5. By the time CMC comes out, IF it ever comes out, we will be asking if it is compatable with whatever is the next generation after Vista.... BvB
  6. I have the exact same error on a newer laptop no matter what scenario I try to play on this game. I suspect it is a Windows Vista issue as I have no problem at all playing on this older machine with XP
  7. OK, after some difficulty I got the game installed and working on an old computer but having trouble making in work on my newer machine which has Vista. It starts ok, pick a scenario and side and then while loading up I get an error, "DirectX failed dderr surfacelost" Above that it says "draw sprite on map surface". So I went and downloaded the latest Direct X and still no luck... any ideas? Otherwise I guess I wont be retiring the older machine, and play it on that... BvB
  8. yes I think they will if they have "follow vehicle" order and get close enough and not pinned, but probably they will get shot up first? Good luck sir
  9. Another option might be to download premade maps so you can both look them over and pick your forces knowing the terrain you will be in. A friend of mine and I have taken some of the Lauban maps, and playing over and over with different setup areas, and flags we change each time so we could come from different directions and get a different feel each time around. BvB
  10. I liked Big Dog's comment on how you can finish SC2 in this lifetime. LoL! I liked HOI's detail but it got to the point where you almost had to micromanage. The other downside was that it was realtime, which eliminated any chance of doing pbem. With limited spare time that meant it was only good for me against the AI. So, I will definitely get the bundle once it is out... BvB
  11. Windows XP here... 3 yr old machine
  12. I have had problems ever since the latest update. I can log on ok, tinker with my pilots and do off line battles. But if I try to do an online battle it gives me some runtime error, server not present or something like that. I will try 5 or 6 times then give up and try another day. I dont play the game enough to go through hoops or try to uninstall and reinstall. Just dont see why it worked fine before and not now when I havent added any other new software or programs to this machine.
  13. I pretty much agree with Robert. While CMSF is new, the Syria thing just doesnt interest me. I tried the demo and it does have some potential, but since it is not either Wego or turn based I dont think I will be buying it either. As for game experience, I did board wargames from the 1960's through 80's and computer wargames since Apple days of 1981 to present. PBEM for 10yrs. Retired army... But back to CMC, what the heck is the status? No updates, minimal activity at their closed board. Guess it would have been better to have never announced it and get us drooling over something that seems like it will never happen. Hope I am wrong, but after this many years with limited apparent headway, my guess is that it is dying but not yet buried. BvB
  14. yes, thats the one I was calling the sequel, I couldnt remember the name. I was stationed in the DC area when it came out and you're right, it sucked. I had really wanted to see it and had a heck of a time finding it after I heard it was being made. What a disappointment... But the 1st with Coburn was decent enough if you dont get bothered by some errors.
  15. No one here mentioned the "sequel" to Cross of Iron. It came out a few years later with Richard Burton playing Steiner. Only two actors from the original movie are in the sequel, Kruger and Anselm. Anselm gets killed in the opening scenes and Kruger toward the end. I thought the sequel sucked but liked the original. I was stationed in Germany when it first came out and saw it in a theater there. They were so proud of it that everyone got a program guide as you went in. Wish I could find it now. It was around 10 pages written in German. It said how it was a joint German Brit film effort and was supposed to be the most expensive German made film up to that time. Then goes on to list how many rounds of ammo, how much film blood, concrete, film, etc was used in the production. Had outtake photos and bio's of the main players and Peckinpah. I wasnt crazy over Stalingrad although it did have some good scenes. I havent yet seen Winter War, but would like to if I can find it. Another from the German view was The Misfit Brigade based on the Sven Hassel books. I recall Oliver Reed was in it but dont know who else. It wasnt all that great either. Would have been nice to have one of Willi Heinrich's other books made into a movie. One I think was called Cresendo of Doom and took place in Czechoslovakia at the tail end of the war with totally different characters.
  16. I havent had a game in a while. Every few days I log on, set up a game, and it never starts saying no connection with server or something, then log off and log back in to try again. No problem looking at my pilots, but cant get a battle going...
  17. As a compromise, maybe Hunter could release a "lite" version of CMC without an AI. This would gain him some revenue and get some folks playing and able to test it in effect. Then when or if a finished version came out these people, for a small fee, could upgrade to the full version.
  18. I would be interested, but it also sounds like you may be biting off more than you can handle.
  19. Whitmann with 25 months combat vs Pool with a little more than 2.5, ok 10 times as long for Whitmann. 117 of Whitmann's kills were done over a 7 month period for an average of almost 17 per month. But of Pool's 258 vehicles, only 12 were tanks. And Whitmann is credited with 138 tanks, or more than 11 times as many. So he averages out to more kills per day in combat, but that does not lessen Pool's achievement and surviving the war. Not mentioned is Otto Carius who is credited with 150 tank kills and as far as I can tell is still alive today. The highest soviet ace I ever heard of was credited with 52 tank and assault gun kills.
  20. I agree, I have not seen better than two either. And in a building you might think more but since game buildings dont have rooms they could be anywhere in that floor of the bldg. In real life I have read of situations of no casualties from groups of lucky guys. In one, a US lieutenant threw a grenade into a German foxhole and attacked - the grenade exploded just as he got to the foxhole and he was the only one wounded. The two terrified germans surrendered unharmed as the grenade went in the mud and exploded up but not out.
  21. On a following visit to their Kirk Health Clinic I stopped again at the museum and asked. They said that they get a budget every year to refurbish some of their stuff. Unfortunately this year after they designated what to refurbish the funds were cut. So the Elefant is in "rehab" for an unknown time. They have no idea when they'll get more money or get that and some others back. Part of government budget cuts. The Tiger is still away on loan to the Germans. The stuff that has come back from rehab looks nice. Fresh paint, etc, they even use some silver paint to highlight battle damage spots.
  22. At the end of the war the Germans also experimented with adding infra red. In SPWaW I think this is in the Panther Uhu, but I dont think it is modeled in CM games. I guess it doesnt matter as its affect would be useful in limited visibility.
  23. I'll agree with Wittman - graphics to me don't make or break a wargame, although they are nice. Having or not having US troops to me is not a major concern. To me it's a tactical exercise with a variety of weapon systems based on something historical. So CMSF really doesn't interest me as it is totally hypothetical and not even a likely scenario. Although one probably could use it to construct battles... The two biggest selling points of it to me is to support battlefront and that it's the newest thing on the block. To each there own, so regardless of what you like - good luck in your battles... BvB
  24. I go to APG at least once a month to pick up diabetes meds and usually stop at the museum. I saw their JagdTiger parked next to the JagdPanther today, but of course, the Elefant is missing. They have been restoring some of the stuff there in recent years. The Tiger I went back to Germany for them to repair. Back during the Korean War there had been far more than twice as many vehicles there than now, laying out and deteriorating. They had a scrap metal drive back then to support the war effort and many rare vehicles were destroyed. One I recall reading was a PzII Lynx. I was there on Armed Forces Day in 1971 and saw two tanks still running - the WWI FT17 and WWII PzIVj that had been captured in a factory, never saw combat. They said they had to hand make parts to keep it going as they were unavailable. My next visit years later had neither one of those running anymore. I'll be over there again for a blood test in two weeks, I'll make a point of stopping at the museum and asking the fate of the Elefant if it hasn't returned by then. BvB
  25. We're like a bunch of little kids driving our parents crazy on a long trip with "are we there yet?"
