  1. You guys are AWESOME!  Thanks!

    Another question.  There are a TON of maps.  Is there a way to quickly preview them?  Going into a quick battle one by one to look at them is super time consuming.  Basically what I'm looking for is a defend town map where I can be the attacker and devastate the town with massive artillery.

    Are graphic and sound mods still recommended since I have 3.x?  I didn't know if they updated all the graphics in CMBN or not with that update.

  2. I have quite a beefy system and I just purchased the rest of CMBN, and have the demos for CMRT, CMFB, and CMFI.

    Every one  of these games, in a medium to large map with a medium (not large) amount of units becomes extremely painful to play.  Checking with both FRAPS or Mirrilis Action shows my frame rates hover between 10-20 fps.  I've seen lots of posts where people have systems much worse than mine maintaining 30 fps.  It might be my NVidia graphic options bu am not sure.  I would appreciate any help at all.  Here are my specs:

    * 2 Nvidia 970's in SLI with latest drivers and standard global settings.

    * Intel i7 4790k

    * Asus Maximus VII Formula

    * 16 Gig of high speed RAM

    * Creative Labs SB Zx for sound

    * Operating system on high speed SSD along with all the of the Combat Mission games

    * No mods yet.  CMBN updated to the 3 module and fully patched.

  3. Hi everyone, sorry for so many questions lately.  I don't know if it's the quickbattles I setup, but I can't figure out the following:

    * I have lots of artillery but can't seem to call them in.  I know many say they need a spotter, but does the spotter really have to actually see an enemy?  I just want to call in artillery support to a vague area.

    * I want to move a AAA piece and I moved a truck to the front where the hitch would be, but I can't find a command to hook it up so I can move the gun somewhere else.  Is this even possible in the game?

    * How do I resupply ammo?  Do the ammo bearers just need to be nearby?

    * How can I make more points available in quick battle beyond huge?  I'd like to have unlimited so I can use like 12,000 points, but huge points just seems to be 5,000

    Thanks for the help!

  4. Artillery and air bombings that create the most devastating visual impact.  So whatever creates the largest craters, does the most expansive damage.

    For or tank on tank battles I like the ones where the tanks can take a beating due to heavy armor, but also the self propelled artillery pieces as well.  I love the German "tanks" with no turrets.  And of course flame-throwing tanks.

  5. I was specifically looking at the camera angles and the hit decals that would really make the Normandy game a lot more fun for me.  It's been a long time since I've played a Combat MIssion game - specifically because fighting the camera and interface was not fun years after the original CMBB games.

    Hope to hear from someone so maybe I will get back into Combat Mission games!  Been so long I'm not sure where to start :) (for reference I have Normandy, and the expansion Commonwealth and Market Garden).

  6. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The repository is quite a chore to wade through, and time consuming as the sort function gets reset every time you download an item.

    I am grabbing everything from Vein, Aris, & EZ's uniforms right now. As far as sound mods, which are your personal favorite? I think we have the same taste if you're the ranger I knew from CMBO many year's ago.

  7. I guess one could say lazy by not researching every single one of these, but I'd like to get back into the game and need some of the most popular mods to play along. There used to be a site called "CMBO files"? Is that still around? Or is the repository the "place to go" nowadays?

    What I'm looking for most are:

    * Better terrain

    * Better interface

    * Better model textures

    Thanks! :)

  8. Wombie, thanks for your feedback. You are very wrong about this point:

    I am a professional artist and have studied the use of color more than the average joe. The MOST contrast one can get is black next to any primary, or secondary color. Next would be using complimentary colors next to each other I.E red next to green. Believe me there is entire science behind the subconscious and it’s relation to color. Ever notice most fast foods use orange, or orange/red in their logos? There is a reason for the color those choices.

    As far as the experience level indicator, I personally like the single letter version better too, and would not care if all letters were just white since this is an area where color is not needed as each unique letter shape “R”, “V” ect.. is distinctive enough for the player to differentiate the experience levels. ALL are certain to agree they would like to have the return from Cmx1 of the floor/passenger for practical reasons, and this solves that.

    In lieu of your comments I did some more brainstorming, and I think this is a winner to please all. You see the type stays white and the AMMO LEVEL INDICATOR is now small circles of red, green, and yellow. This solves the problem for color blind person, while helping those with poor vision like myself who do not want to keep squinting to read the integers especially when not necessary unless ammo is getting low which will tell the player at a glance by the showing of the color indicator.

    Exp-floor-ammov3.jpg

    The colored bars, and icons from CMSF were good in that they told the player the ammo sitrep at a GLANCE, which is especially important for RTS play, BUT this alone was too vague. OK, I am down to 1 red bar, well what does that mean? I’m low but do I have 5 rounds? 10 rounds? 0 rounds left? This is a good use of color red= bad, green = good, but does not give the more detailed story when necessary. So, integers were needed, BUT now we lost the color that gives the at a GLANCE. This gives it all, and once again we see CMx1 had it best, both color and text together to give the at a glance, and detail when needed. NOW WE HAVE IT ALL!

    I still stick to my guns in saying it is an attractive, and overall well done GUI, but that does not say it cannot be improved with some practical features such as these for more tweaking. My only real criticism with the UI is the relative hotkey layout. It takes a less than optimal approach to RTS play in its current layout.

    That looks perfect.

  9. japinard, first of all, you do not need to register an account to buy anything. When you purchase a game, a new account is created for you "on the fly" (without the need for CAPTCHA verification).

    If you keep having problems with the CAPTCHA even though you are certain that you are entering it correctly, then it could be a browser issue. If you are using IE9, then try setting it to compatibility mode.

    OK, this is really odd then. Maybe it's a store issue? I'll try again in compatability mode (I've been using IE9). So far I haven't found a way to purchase without creating an account. Nice to see you again Moon :) Been many many years!

  10. Hi Hubert &BF forums!

    It's been quite a long time since I'd visited Battlefront, and my hankering for fun AI (plus Bluesnews reporting on the new patch) brought me back :)

    I'm still trying to figure out all the differences between Global Conflict and SC2 (plus expns) besides size. Does Global Conflict include all the scenarios from the previous two games (Pacific & SC2)? Are there units in SC2+expansions that arent in Global Conflict or vice-versa?

    Is moving masses of troops now a little quicker (or easier to manage) than in the early SC2 days?

    Cheers! :)

  11. From a die-hard Battlefront supporter to someone who kinda disappeared when Shock Force came out, I can understand where a lot of people come from.

    The current engagements in the Middle East are a sore spot with many people. Though things are more balanced you still don't have an apples-to-apples conflict like you had in WWII. Some people may like this, others don't. Distances are longer, scale is different, plus you don't have the typical battles and battlelines to dissect like Kursk or even the trench warfare of WWI. This is the same reason Vietnam will never be as popular of a gronard game as something set in WWI/WWII.

    There are a lot of people just waiting for the next WWII from Battlefront to come back. After all, that's what brought people here in the first place and helped build the company. It's not a hate for the current game, but a desire for an improved BF CM:BB game that people "like" to identify with... and especially the ideal to change history (what if scenarios).

    As for the review, terribly short with no meat to back the score in the least.

    and Smaragdadler. It's not a time issue. It is a "What interests you?". For example here's what I prefer to spend my wargaming time on:

    WWII >> WWI >> 1980's NATO/Soviet conflict >> Medieval Warfare >> Roman Era wars (including Carthage etc) >> Greek City-State Era Wars >> American Revolutionary War >> Napolenonic Wars >> Civil War >> Vietnam War >> current Middle East Conflict
