Redwolf
You will be fine, caralampio. One thing, though. I don't know how much you payed for the card and whether you can still return it unopened, but you might consider doing so depending on how much you payed. These 256 MB FX 5500 cards are an outright scam. These cards are much too slow to make use even of 128 MB in any kind of real game. These cards are sold for a premium to people who select their cards just by the amount of video RAM and are really not a good value. They run CM fine, of course.
caralampio
It cost me $80.00. Well, at least will I see ANY improvement over the ATI I now have? I mean apart of getting fog in CM, (hopefully) eliminating the black patch from CMBB's screen, and (hopefully) taking away the fuzziness in Rome Total War?
Redwolf
The GeForce FX 5500 and the Radeon 9200 practically much identical when it comes to speed-related machinery. Both have 6.4 GB/sec memory bandwidth and 250-270 MHz GPUs with 4 pixel pipes. Of course you avoid ATI's driver mess which is worth $80 any day. However, buying a 256 MB FX 5500 in the expectation to run any of the games that even require 64 MB on the game box is hopeless. The amount of video RAM doesn't say the most basic thing about speed. It's like putting 4 GB RAM into a Pentium MMX and expecting it to do google at home.

dfgardner1
Just to close the loop on this one; I replaced the 5200 AGP with a PCI version and all worked well. I think I had a bad AGP slot; the AGP card works fine in other PC.
